Looking at it at the moment, you'd have to say definitely not.
Our bowling attack is looking very strong, with great younger bowlers coming through as well who the selectors would be eye-balling for test positions.
That, and the fact that he was in terrible form before he got injured. If he was...
I'm going with England. They have a more balanced team, and most importantly, they get the results.
RSA have a great team of course as well. Their top-line batsmen are some of the world's best (Smith, Amla, Kallis, de Villiers), and they have their amazing fast bowling combination (Steyn...
I think Paine would be the best option in tests, but it's just silly to suggest that the selectors aren't picking Wade just because they are scared he will do well so they can't drop him for Paine.
They'll just pick what they think is the best option for Australia. At the moment, they think...
Beer won't play. Neither will Starc unless someone gets injured.
Starc is great in the shorter versions, but I'm as with most people, I'm convinced there are better options in the longer version of the game.
With Watson back Lyon should play all the tests.
And I do hope Forrest gets a debut...
Despite the worries about Ponting and Hussey, and I think Ponting's few innings since he has been back playing with Tasmania, show that he'll be selected because he is still one of our best batsmen.
A 75* in the OD final, then 2 centuries in the shield after that.
Also shows maybe the lack of...
He's gotta stay in the side now. Five-for.
IT's either Watson, Forrest, or Warner.
Forrest because he's the least experienced, BUT you'd might be more inclined to keep him in the side because he's solid, and has simply played really well.
Warner because he's too up and down, BUT you'd might...
Warner hasn't done enough with the bat to make the opening spot his own.
The key these days is keeping your wicket in hand, and going for it at the end. With Forrest and Clarke, who both score quite slowly, I don't mind them in the team because of this aspect. One of them should be able to hold...
That's is the cleanest hitting I think I'll ever see.
He even hit yorkers for 4's, and those that didn't go to the boundary, went flush out of the middle of the bat and raced towards the rope.
Other batsman wouldn't have scored off many of those balls.
Kohli was unbelievable. His average is...
You're forgetting Watson.
2 doesn't go into 1 !!
The bats that will go to the WI are Warner, Cowan, Ponting, Forrest, Hussey, Clarke, Watson.
Keepers, Wade and Haddin apparently.
It's a tough one.
I do like Forrest and Clarke coming in at 1st and 2nd drop as they can steady the ship and build an innings. Then, the Hussey's are great coming in late because they don't really need time to get set, and can get their timing perfect from ball one.
I wouldn't mind seeing...
There's lots of ways you can look at it. Yes, it's a small sample size, but he's done really well. And it's much better than the alternative (that is, doing crap).
What I really like about him is he has got some guts. It absolutely astounded me how in his debut match he skipped down the pitch...
Ponting is still going to play tests, which I think is fair enough to do for him now.
BUT, he isn't playing ODIs anymore. To me, he will be regarded as one of the best ODI players ever, not only just for Australia.
4 WC finals, 3 WC wins, 2 wins as captain. 2 unbeaten tournaments as well... HE...
I agree.
Very gutsy by the selectors, but the right call.
Loved how Inverarity was honest... "door is never closed on anybody but it's a strong indication there"
Ponting (and Hussey to an extent) were given more time in Tests because no one really demanded that a spot be theirs - Hughes...
In my opinion, I'd still favour Harris over Starc, but you could go back and forth with that.
I agree with Lee though... he's still very good, and I daresay one of our BEST EVER one-day bowler's, but I too don't really see the point. I mean, if he's in good form and in our best team, then I...
I like that squad. Pick the best bowlers... Starc is not the quality of the other ones in the squad.
Depending on the side, we could have 4 bowlers + Christian + Watson + Clarke + Dussey.
Batting seems like it's near its best - not sure on the bowling yet for ODIs. Does, and if so, where does...
Well I don't think you would risk trying to take the ball at that stage... If you do and you stuff it somehow, with the speed of the ball and the fielder running, and it goes for 4...
And what a fantastic last over by Malinga, under immense pressure. All the balls, except the last one, were...
Will be interesting to see who Australia leaves out.
MS Wade†
DA Warner
RT Ponting
MJ Clarke*
DJ Hussey
PJ Forrest
DT Christian
MR Marsh
RJ Harris
CJ McKay
MA Starc
XJ Doherty
Balance-wise, I think it will be a bit bowling heavy. Unless either Marsh or Christian miss out. Doesn't look the...
To Win Back The The Ashes.
I think the selectors are trying to use ODIs to give batsmen some international experience.
There are only a limited number of tests, and you can't really rotate or give guys a go there.
They see Forrest as a potential bat in the Tests, so I reckon its to expose him...
Good rankings.
Think Warner at 8/10 is too much given he only had one good innings. Haddin also lucky I thought.
If Hussey is a 9, and Ponting a 10, then I think Hilfenhaus and Siddle also were 10's. They were fantastic, especially early with wickets but also some runs.
Agree here. They were favourites and by a bit at that stage, then Siddle struck and we all know what happened after that.
Also, I don't think it was the triple hundred that changed the series. It was Clarke and Ponting's partnership IMO, by the end of that, we were set. So Ponting had a huge...
You could mount a case for any of them.
Clarke - a triple and a double. Superb captaincy throughout. That should pretty much seal the award, but then again, he did fail with the bat in two of the tests, and for a series award, that may count against him.
Ponting - consistent. Only failed in...
Agree. But when it comes down to it, if we're playing the Ashes, we are going to go with our A-Team when we can.
It would be great to rotate in other series though...
As for the order, don't have a clue.
We just need a good variety of bowling styles. Will be interesting when Watson comes...
We need to give Siddle bigger roles to fulfill his potential!!
Used to be #9, #10, when Johnson was batting. Now he's #8, he's playing so much better.
Used to be our #3, #4 bowler, and he's been given the job of 'leader' this summer, and has responded.
He'd hold his own at #3 !!! :D
I don't think Khawaja is suited to be #3... Not at the moment anyway. He doesn't score quickly enough often enough, and it can bog us down. He doesn't have the shots yet.
Having our veterans lower down in the order doesn't help our situation. Clarke won't move from #5, which is fine, but it...
It's so hard to pick our best 3. We may have to decide in each test whether Lyon plays or not or go with the 4th seamer...
Cummins was superb, but at the moment, he's not up there with the other 4 on the back of one performance.
As for the other 4, you'd have to take the pitch, and most...
If Warner opens, then I think there MUST be a Cowan, Marsh, or Khawaja that opens with him. I think it's very unlikely to work if he opens with Watson or Hughes... we don't need two attacking minded players right at the top as it makes us prone to wickets and collapses.
If he doesn't open...
I don't think it's going to be about giving all our players a rest.. Maybe instead of playing someone like Patto in both matches against NZ, they'll play him in one next time knowing he has cemented his spot and is 'saved' for the more important matches.
This is all great and well, to give...
It's because we are winning, so the pressure is not there. Plus, no one is really knocking the door down. Wade plays a similar style (batting-wise) to Haddin, not sure of their keeping (but surely Wade cannot be worse...), but Haddin has the experience and is the incumbent.
Mind you, if Paine...
Hughes is too good for FC cricket. However, he is not good enough for test cricket, yet. The thing is, if we put him back for NSW, he'll make the runs, no problems, and his numbers will demand to be picked.
Harris, if fit, will play.
What's our bowling pecking order now?
Harris, Cummins...
How are the injuries to Watson, Marsh and Cummins??
Will any of them be ready?
If not, assuming the same 11 play, it doesn't matter who they send. Australia do have a tendency to have their 12th and 13th players as fast bowlers though.
But then again, I agree , why Christian? So he can play...
