Why are Maryborough not looking at the North Central League? Yes travel every second week, but to warmer and better grounds than the Central Highlands. I would have thought this is next best option.......... Maryborough why has this not been in the discussion?

I am not supporting this position, and have no insight to the Boards thinking. However, allowing the Country Clubs to fold definitely makes it easier to make it a Bendigo (only) focused league with maybe a White Hills and Marong entering the league. 8 Bendigo based clubs would work.

With all the discussion about the ineptitude of the BFNL board what if their strategy is to allow Maryborough to fold and potentially have Castlemain leave? It seems to me that most of the grief / angst about the BFNL is from the Country Clubs - so if they go who is left is relatively happy...

What if the league was 6 teams? 1. Sandhurst 2. Square 3. South 4. Eaglehawk 5. Stath 6. Flat 3 rounds through the year and would consolidate the best talent into the 6 teams? Would this work?

You can't compare Maryborough to Kyabrum, Rochy or Koroit as examples - these are all destination clubs that may have minor leagues around them but they are the go-to clubs for players, including local farmers as examples, who are the main stay of these clubs. Maryborough is not a destination...

I think Kavanagh played half-forward in 92 - at least in the finals. That team were scary good and scary..... played that finals series like they were possessed.

While I agree with the view that playing 'major' league footy has changed Maryborough has seen at least 3 local players from Carisbrook and Natte go to play 'major' league footy in Ballarat. When Maryborough was strong these players would traditionally come in to play there.... not sure MCDFNL...

The problem for Maryborough and Castlemaine (more in previous years) if they don't differentiate themselves from their local competing clubs they could become less relevant. At least playing in a league the next level up provides a standard jump if local players want it. Unfortunately, locals...

Generally agree with the points, but the question remains How do you fix the competitive imbalance in the Bendigo league - Everyone posts (and generally agrees) that the top 4 for the next 20 years will be Sandhurst, Square, Strath and Eaglehawk (assuming Gisborne end up in Riddell league one day).

It's not just about population growth but also socio-economic (aka Money). Strath is not only a growth area but an affluent area with lots of money and business/sponsorship connections. If it was just population growth Flat would be dominating the BFNL with growth in their area.

Agree Stax......The points system stops clubs "buying" one-off Premierships, but does nothing to create long term equalisation. From Albury to Strath to Kyabrum strong clubs have junior pathways that provide high quality 1 point players, and this combined with excellent club cultures results...
