It was our final match thread of the season courtesy of our unfortunate preliminary final loss to the Roys, but we represented brilliantly with 633 posts from 15 Dragons - our busiest match thread since #grandfinalrematch, and the mast Dragons present since Round 8! T2B_ was huge with 130 posts, whilst Braklet also raised the bat with 116. There were also great contributions from the likes of Bonz (69), Strigoi (59), DragoDelph (45), Pie 4 Life (29), Hatchy1992 (22), Blaze Storm (22), DJ75 (14) and Knifey Spoony (10).

One of the awards that is issued each season at Dragons FFC is the Coach's MVP. Each week Coach will cast votes based on who he thinks performs best on the qooty field. Raw statistics, positional dominance and big moments in the sim are taken into account, and Coach crunches the numbers with a complex algorithm to deal out 3-2-1 votes. Coach AceAndy still has the big job at the Dragons, despite an increasing reputation for sudden, strange onfield moves that either pay off brilliantly or end in total disaster, fast becoming known as Craaaaazy Andy, but after a premiership in season 32, understandably still has the keys to the machine that is the Dragons.

Coach's thoughts:

Having done the job in the Qualifying Final, it was onto the much anticipated Prelim vs the old Roys. We've been on a winning streak for quite a while, notwithstanding the close calls of course, but winning form is good form regardless.

Could we continue the streak to further our quest for #backtoback?

First Preliminary Final, Conditions for this match - RAINY



The weather gods were less kind to us for this one. It was a wet, slippery deck but having copped plenty of that last season, we know we can bring our A-game in any conditions.

Our start to the game was a mixed bag, though. The Roys got a few goals on the board early, interspersed with a couple of following goals of our own thanks to Pie 4 Life, Strigoi and Bonz. The Roys got out to a 13 point advantage at one stage before we pegged it back to 7 points at the first break.

The second term, it was clear the weather was affecting play quite a bit as it was a messy affair although for the conditions there was a bit of scoring by both sides (goals and behinds, including some rushed efforts). It was a largely even contest, however and by the Half Time siren we actually led by 2 points. Our goal kickers for the term were Knifey Spoony (2), DragoDelph and Bonz.

It was a little more of the same for the third quarter, as while a fast starting goal from Strigoi meant we got the drop on the Roys to get the 8 point buffer, they soon pegged one back. And then another, to retake the lead. Following a familiar pattern of largely trading goals between the two sides, we got further majors from T2B_ and Matt_352, however at the final break the Roys managed to have a 7 point advantage.

There was relatively little scoring in the final term, as the ground now became an absolute slog fest. Sadly, despite this the Roys did get the first goal inside the first 2 minutes of play, stretching the margin to 13 points. It would take over 10 minutes for another score, of any kind from either side, to be registered. Thankfully this was courtesy of Pie 4 Life and DragoDelph scoring a major each within nearly a minute of each other, pegging the margin back to just 1 point the Roys' way.

Unfortunately, I have to say this was the last time we would score for Season 33, besides a solitary rushed behind, for the final 8 or so minutes of play. The Roys did manage a major courtesy of tigs2010 at the 19:19 mark of the quarter and with our complete lack of scoring combined with the ball bobbling around the ground as each side tried to control the pill, it was on this occasion a bridge too far. We were out on our feet and the Roys had done just enough to snag the win. As the final siren blew, the Roys were the victors by 6 points and off to the big dance.

• Regardless that this wasn't a huge game for either player, T2B_ had 3KZ is Football's measure. - 16m from 83 to 99.

Defender highlights: The big Chief (9d, 5m) won't light up the stat sheet, however he destroyed his direct opponent in zackah who scored, well, donuts across the board. HawkAussie (21d, 5m) was more than handy across Half Back.

Midfield highlights: It was once again our midfield that did the bulk of the scoring. Pie 4 Life (23d, 2t, 2g, 1b) had his direct opponent's measure while getting in on the scoring, while T2B_ (24d, 5t, 1g, 1b) also did his role well while racking up a good handful of tackles on a day where they were hard to come by. DragoDelph (17d, 3m, 3t, 2g) also had a pretty productive day, as while he had a tough battle against the Roys' dominant midfielder in Cats_R_Cool_4_Ever, he nevertheless did his utmost to get involved in the goals as he often does.

Forward highlights: This section will be rather short, although to be fair conditions on the day didn't suit any forwards, big or small. Bonz (3d, 1m, 2g, 1b) was pretty efficient with his limited opportunities while the same can be said for Knifey Spoony (8d, 3m, 2g) before he had a stint on the wing.

Coach's Final Thoughts:

While we were understandably very disappointed to fall so agonizingly short of the Grand Final and having the chance to back up our Season 32 flag, there's no doubt we've had a brilliant season nevertheless. Our known stars combined with brilliant rookies that were blooded, as well as a generally brilliant team ethos, meant that that once we got going (after an admittedly slow start! Premiership hangovers and all that) we hit the ground running as the dominant Qooty side we know we can be. We had a brilliant run towards the end of the season, no doubt about it. And although sadly we fell just short against the Roys in the Prelim, we were in the game all the way. And sometimes, that's Qooty. During our winning streak we had a few incredibly close games that could have gone either way, but in this game, it wasn't to be.

In any case, I want to thank all of our players, staff, sponsors for their efforts this season. And Nintendo for keeping me occupied during the matches where our players were so in control I had really nothing else to do, besides play musical chairs with the player positions as usual.

Knowing we're in such a good state on-field and off, and knowing that our board is sensible and surely wouldn't make any rash decisions in the off-season, I bid you all farewell until next season!

Welcome everyone to the Dragons FFC presentation evening for Season 33. We shall be reflecting upon and celebrating this this most recent season whilst we present the following awards and achievements tonight:

In addition, we will be recognising the best Dragons in the Mobbs Medal count (SFA Best & Fairest), beez Medal (SFA best contributor award) and the Dragons who gained selection into the S33 All-SFA team.

The big one of course is the Ljp86 Medal, of whom the winner will join luminaries such as A Swallow, AceAndy, Pie 4 Life, Hate, The Filth Wizard and the great man himself: Ljp86. The award is determined from a combination of on-field qooty performances and match thread engagement: each category being rated out of five every round for all Dragons players.

Coach's thoughts:

Kicking off Season 33 against none other than the Roys, everyone was champing at the bit to get going and we know our pre-season had been strong, though not enough training under the musical delights of Rebecca Black was undertaken for my liking. Nevertheless, as reigning premiers, albeit lacking our ex-champion midfielder in A Swallow, would we turn up like a well oiled machine or splutter awkwardly into life with a premiership hangover?

[RD 1], Conditions for this match - CLOUDY

With cloudy weather covering the BJO, one could imagine it would be a decent day for stats and fast clean ball movement. And that it was! Things looked good early with both sides trading goals and midway through the first quarter, the Dragons were a goal up, 3 goals to 2. A couple of quick goals to Bonz later meant we closed out the quarter leading by 9 points and things were looking optimistic, despite some missed chances by the opposition.

Unfortunately, the second quarter soon started to quash that optimism somewhat although we held our own. The Roys hit back with a few quick goals, only broken up by some individual brilliance by Bonz again who was certainly doing his job as full forward with 4 goals by halftime, as well as contributions by Knifey Spoony and Hatchy1992. We would have even entered halftime with a slim lead, save for a post siren effort by the Roys recruit in zackah!

The third quarter was perhaps a scene that would be best completely forgotten about. The Roys piled on some goals and despite some valiant efforts by the Dragons midfield and another classy goal to Hatchy, the scoreline at 3 quarter time reflected a nasty score of 85-61 the Roys way.

Looking for a 4th quarter revival, I gave the squad a peptalk. And by peptalk I mean threatened the entire group with Rebecca Black marathons and a severe docking of KFC rations. This almost looked like a genius move as the Dragons definitely went out there with a renewed vigour and there was some hope of a comeback before all was said and done. A topsy turvy first 10 minutes trading behinds and near misses between the two sides meant scoring was held up for some time however then the combination of Bonz and last season's Deestroy Medallist in BringBackTheAnchor got us back a couple of quick goals. The Roys pulled away with an answer to Zevon, but Knifey Spoony came back with a superb effort from the pocket bringing us within 14 points. Not to be outdone, our opposite pocket in Hatchy1992 hit back with a goal as well. At this point I thought my threats to my squad were paying off and maybe, just maybe, we would overtake and pull away for the win. Unfortunately it wasn't to be however, as the Roys Mooch got loose and kicked a quick reply and it was already late in the match. It was enough. With only a minute left, the Roys held up any further scoring and finally ran out winners, 100-87.

Note to self: more threats needed next week.

Defender highlights: Blaze Storm was a rock at centre half back (19d, 9m) and kept his opponent in Mike goalless. Braklet (20d, 7m) and DragoDelph (19d, 3m), amongst our new rookies, also had a very good start to the season on opposite half back flanks. Our defensive unit as a whole were perhaps a little lucky however that the Roys weren't more accurate - they finished with 14 goals and a whopping 16 behinds.

Midfield highlights: Despite lacking one of our prime movers in A Swallow this season, the hole was ably filled by none other than Pie 4 Life (24d and a MASSIVE 12 tackles!) who made a very fine return to the midfield, racking up plenty of the ball but also constantly burying the opposition into the turf. He was supported by one of T2B_'s (34t, 8t, 1g) best games as a rover, while Strigoi (17ho, 25d) did her thing in the ruck - destroying her opponent in Sterge so much he got subbed off. Bradesmaen (31t, 8m) was also extremely prolific on the wing. With numbers like these you would expect a win more often than not, though it wasn't to be this week.

Forward highlights: Bonz (5g, 2b) backed up his usual well deserved bravado while Hatchy1992 (4t, 4g) had a superb contribution from the pocket with an efficient bag of his own with some backup from Knifey Spoony (2g). Unfortunately though, despite midfield drive we just couldn't get enough goals or even scoring shots, as while we were relatively accurate with 14 goals, 3 behinds - we just needed more looks at the big sticks.

Coach's thoughts:

Our start to the season was less than stellar. As reigning premiers there is expectation amongst both the club and fans to hit the ground running and a loss to the lowly Roys was not ideal. So for Round 2 we came up against the Gumbies. Spoiler: unfortunately we didn't win. What's more, the Monday after the loss, my two captains had some choice words with me.

I was in my office at Dragon HQ Monday morning when in walked serial_thrilla and T2B_. I glanced up at them momentarily but quickly resumed playing Animal Crossing. "How's it going, boys?" I asked, a little annoyed I had been interrupted with my dealings with Tom Nook.

"Ace, we're going to have get some results soon," said thrilla. "We didn't want to have to come out and say this, but your job could be on the line."

"But we've only played two games!" I exclaimed, still not quite looking up from my Switch. "T2B, you might be a fat squishy avocado that barely fit through the door, but are you seriously going along with this tripe like a little puppy dog?"

T2B_ flushed red momentarily but quickly returned to a healthy shade of green. "I dunno, man, it was only the Roys and Gumbies, it's not a great start-"

"What's more," thrilla cut in, tossing a sheet of paper into my lap. I let it slide to the floor but it had what looked like very alien glyphs and formulas. Ahh, thrilla and his stats. "Stats don't lie, coach. Your 'hail mary' moves may have been brushed aside in our premiership year, but they will cost us sooner or later. Is it any wonder our players haven't totally turned up the last couple of games? That lack of confidence in where they will play on the Qooty field at any given minute has to take a toll."

I thought that was a very long bow. "Ridiculous comment," I said. "We've just won a flag and we're only two games in. You young whipper snappers have no patience these days. Tom Nook wouldn't stand for this."

I glanced up to see thrilla and T2B look at each other and shuffle their feet awkwardly. "Oooookay," said T2B_ after a time. "Well we'll let you get on with... whatever it is you do. Just remember to submit the match analysis. I heard it's kind of your job or something."

"Sure," I said, head well and truly buried back into the Switch. "I'll probably have it ready later this week, sometime, maybe."

[Round 2], Conditions for this match - WARM

In lovely warm weather at Ljp's Lair, the first quarter actually looked quite positive, albeit it told a tale that was familiar for the rest of the match - our forward avenues were basically Bonz, Bonz and Bonz. Courtesy of Bonz and a contribution by his offsider in Hatchy1992 we got out to a 2 goal lead late in the quarter. Unfortunately we bled two goals to the Gumbies in red time. Our midfield had looked a fairly even match for the Gumbies at this point, save for signs of a certain Goose that plays for the Gumbies looking a little ominous. Some loose checking in defense let the Gumbies forwards do their thing unfortunately. Still, we went into the first break with scores level so it was anyone's game.

The second quarter proved to be still a tight tussle indeed. 3 goals to Bonz in this quarter alone, with DJ75 chipping in with 1 was about the most scoring we did, along with a string of behinds. The Gumbies were more efficient and made the most of their opportunities. Somehow, even Barrybran started getting in on the action. It was only the one goal but that was 100% more than anyone expected him to kick the whole match. All said and done, we did go into the break with a lead, albeit only 4 points. There were signs that quarter that the Gumbies were winning it out of the middle a little too easily at times, putting pressure on our defenders and probably contributing to Baz actually getting a touch.

After the half time break and once again attempting to persuade the team to lift with both threats of Rebecca Black and flat out bribery with fast food promises, we headed into the third quarter. It's worth noting that late in the second quarter I had in fact subbed off Pie 4 Life for Chief. Why? Well I figured if I subbed off Strigoi again, I would probably be hung, drawn and quartered. Maybe later in the season. serial_thrilla had always told me Chief had some special powers or something so I thought what the heck, let's take this guy who usually plays back pocket and thrust him into the guts. Why for P4L though? I don't know, I had been tinkering with the names on the whiteboard but got distracted watching a Rebecca Black biography on YouTube. Anyway I bumped the board and the names all fell to the floor and Pie's name was just the first I picked up.

Anyway, I looked somewhat clever at the start of the third quarter. Bonz once again kicked us off as well as a great solo effort by, you guessed it, Chief himself. Unfortunately that was about as much self back clapping as I could do for this quarter, as besides another goal to Hatchy1992 and yet another to Chief (who was really starting to make his presence known in the guts), the Gumbies got on top. Barrybran once again kicked a goal. Nay, TWO goals. And young Gumbies rook CatToTheFuture started to dominate. Being down by just 9 points at 3 quarter time, surely we could run over the top?

The ever wonderful and shoulda-been-All-SFA Strigoi got us going as she often does, kicking a ripper from 55m. Bonz came in for his 7th goal but sadly that was the last of our true kicks at the sticks. From there on for the remainder of the quarter we kicked a string of behinds. As was often the story of the day, the Gumbies forwards were more efficient combined with their midfield just managing to get on top, GWS Goose especially running riot and even getting in on the goal kicking.

The final siren blew and it was a 21 point defeat to the Gumbies. A disappointing result to be sure.

Defender highlights: Blaze Storm (13d, 3m) once again was very steady for us at CHB, winning his position very convincingly. Sadly this was about the only highlight of our defence. We lost too many direct matchups here; admittedly our defenders were not helped by fast and smooth delivery from the Gumby mids, nor by how relatively accurate their opponents were.

Midfield highlights: Despite only playing a bit over a half in the guts, Chief (22d, 2g, 1b) was superb. Stoods (20d, 6m, 2b) was solid, Matt_352 (19d, 4m) and T2B_ (16d, 6t) tried hard and technically beat their direct opponents but it would be fair to say they and most of our other mids just couldn't quite get enough of the pill on the day. Of course it would be remiss to not mention Strigoi (21d, 15ho, 1g, 1b) who did Strigoi things, although she had a tough battle with the Gumbies' Rodney Dangerfield.

Forward highlights: Bonz (7g, 3b) was Bonz and was largely keeping us in the game up forward. Our over reliance on the great man with not enough goals plucked from elsewhere hurt us though. DJ75 (20d, 7m, 1g, 1b) did a power of work on the HFF while Hatchy1992 (2g) contributed with 2 classy pocket goals, going at 100% efficiency with his 2 touches. But ultimately our well was a little dry on the day.

Coach's thoughts:

It's no secret by now our start to the season was looking a little shaky. Two consecutive losses to opponents we were really expected to roll over and own, like Tom Nook owns the villagers of Animal Crossing. Alas our next opponent was the Royals; a team I don't rate at all but for some reason our skipper serial_thrilla raves about every time the fixture brings them up against us.

With redemption on the cards, would we bring the goods this week? And would poor old starving Knifey Spoony actually get to finally eat some Subway?

[RD 3], Conditions for this match - CLOUDY

Things kicked off at The Golden Throne in cloudy weather, so we knew whichever way the result was going to go it would be a good day for stats padders. The first few minutes we were just seeing the Royals behinds - alas, no, not in that way - as they kicked 3 minor scores in a row. Our plucky midfielder in Stoods got us going with a major soon after though, after doing some footwork around PMBangers that would have got him a gig on Dancing With The Stars. After this point the two sides largely traded scores, both goals and behinds, one after another. Neither side got to more than 4 points in front for the opening quarter, such was the tightness of it. We went into quarter time leading by 2 points thanks to a late major to Knifey Spoony - who finally got one of his goals! Would he get the second needed for his much sought after Subway voucher?

The first half of the second quarter was yet again a trading of blows between the two sides, with no clear ascendancy either way and it had begun to resemble a bit of a shootout, however, the last ten minutes of the quarter saw us suddenly step things up and kick 4 goals to the Royals single major. By this point our powerhouse focal point in Bonz was sitting pretty on 3 goals for the match so far - however the star of the quarter was none other than Ljp86, who wound back the clock to kick 3 goals of his own for that whole quarter! At half time things were looking pretty good with a 21 point lead.

When things kicked off again after half time, we extended the margin by another goal thanks to a great effort by our ruck in Strigoi. Sadly this was about the only highlight for the majority of the third quarter as the Royals decided to casually kick the next 6 (!) goals. We hit back with 2 goals in red time, thanks to Stoods and Ljp86 kicking their third and fourth goals respectively, but we went into the final break with only a 4 point lead. Still, after a couple losses and a decent first half, we were confident that in the last we would have the inner steel and resolve to pull away and snag the chocolates.

Sadly, this prediction went about as well as the reactions to playing Rebecca Black in the club rooms. The Royals' full forward in spookism, sitting on 3 goals for the game up to this point, decided he would kick another 3 goals in this term alone. At one point it did occur to me, as spookism yet again ragdolled our full back serial_thrilla, that maybe I should perform a move. But I thought to myself, "nah, it'll be fine". Some might say this was a spiteful lack of action as revenge for thrilla pushing me out of the Qooty field and up into the coaches box a couple seasons ago, but I would flatly deny that. I would.

As the final quarter waned, however, things took an optimistic turn as our midfielders in T2B_ and the venerable Pie 4 Life hit the scoreboard for a major each. Although one of spookism's goals was sandwiched in between their goals, we were only down by 3 points with less than a minute to spare on the clock. We knew we needed a last ditch effort. A hero to slice through the Royals and deliver the killing blow to get our season on track.

Enter Bradesmaen.

The winger bolted through the middle and presented, receiving a handball and with mere seconds left went the torp from outside 50. He couldn't surely? Well it was a ripper of a kick - power and penetration personified, but looked to be a little off line... no! It had bent back late and swung inside the big sticks as the final siren sounded. He had done it! The crowd erupted and I won't lie, I felt tears well up into my eyes and dropped to the floor on my knees, praising Rebecca Black, Jesus, Buddha and Rebecca Black.

Except... something was wrong. The scoreboard did not tick over and remained with the Dragons deficit. The goal was not counted. My praises to deities soon turned to curses as we were informed that a glitch in spacetime caused by God's shoddy coding at the creation of reality or something meant the goal didn't actually happen before the siren went and merely appeared so.

A bitter, bitter end to what was otherwise a thrilling game.

Defender highlights: This would probably not be considered a game for defender highlights, especially being a bit of a shootout. Mooresome (13d, 3t) did well coming off the bench and holding out the Royals' CakeEater. The two Dragons rookies on opposing HBFs though were shining lights, with Braklet (24d, 12m) and DragoDelph (23d, 7m) well and truly holding their own and providing drive back the other way. Ashman OG (33d, 11m), although having a tough time with his opponents, did have some stunning numbers to his name and also gave us plenty of defensive drive.

Midfield highlights: Our midfield held up very well against their Royals counterparts, to be expected in such a tight result. Strigoi (32d, 15ho, 1g, 1b) was in typical fine form, having something to say to the All-SFA selectors of last season coming out with the choccies over the Royals' much vaunted GreyCrow. Continuing his rich midfield form, Pie 4 Life (29d, 10t, 1g) was an inside dynamo who racked up ball and tackled all day and Matt_352 (31d, 6m, 1g) was in fine form on the wing.

Forward highlights: Our unlikely star of the forwards was Ljp86 (15d, 5m, 4g) who showed age was no object and kicked a bag. It was otherwise slim pickings as Bonz (3d, 3g) was well held after his initial few and the only other multiple goal kicker was in fact our centre in Stoods (5d, 3g) who was very efficient at drifting forward and hitting the scoreboard from limited touches.

It was a fantastic season for the Dragons in the Mobbs Medal votes, with a couple of our players in the hunt for the coveted award during parts of the count. T2B_ had a massive run of games through the middle of the season to finish in 7th place on 17 votes. Pie 4 Life was the star of the show for us though, and he finished on 21 votes - a heartbreaking single vote behind the winner damicky. Bonz and Strigoi both received votes on multiple occasions as they finished on 9 votes, @DargoDelph received the first votes of his career as he nabbed a pair of votes in his debut season, whilst Ljp86 wound back the clock to add another vote to his career tally. Congrats to all Dragons who received votes!​

Coach's thoughts:

It's no exaggeration that as we entered Round 4 vs the Swamprats, we were in need of a win. Not just because of needing to get our season back on track, but as I noted a couple weeks ago, thinks were beginning to smell suspiciously "mutiny-ish". To ensure I was left alone this week I hired two big bouncers to stand outside my office door. You would think their presence alone would be enough - but let's just say a certain avocado is now even more bruised than usual.

Anyway, even though the weather forecast wasn't looking promising, we were champing at the bit to go out and prove we have what it takes. Would we finally succeed? And would any late at shots at goal just magically disappear this time?

Round 4, Conditions for this match - MUDDY

As predicted, the weather was less than stellar when we ran out at Ljp86's Lair. It was MUDDY, like really muddy and one could be forgiven for thinking this could suit the Swamprats. Unlike the previous week, this was not likely to be a pretty game. Our co-captains complained and said something about me having peeved off the Qooty gods again but I wasn't having any of it. I gave them a slap up the backside of their heads with my Nintendo Switch and sent them out onto the field.

I'd be lying if I said our start was ideal. The Rats came out and although conditions were hard going and messy, they were busy indeed. After a few behinds in succession, they managed to lay on a couple of majors, before we had even landed a single point. The venerable Pie 4 Life got us on the board with a classy effort to snag one on the run a bit over halfway through the quarter. Unfortunately the Rats got another goal to go into the first break with a handy 16 point lead.

The second quarter looked to be even worse. Much of it was spent with fumbles and spoils and transferals up and down the ground, such were the poor conditions, and the Rats once again kicked 3 successive behinds before landing another major. Midway through the term they got out to a 26 point lead and in this weather, even the most optimistic of us would be quite concerned. Thankfully, as we approached red time two of our midfielders snagged us back 2 goals, they being DragoDelph and Pie 4 Life (once again) respectively, and we held on until half-time with no further scores either side to go into the break with a 14 point deficit.

Along came the third quarter and we knew we had to step it up a bit. Pleasingly, I can say we did just that! This was truly the quarter of the Dragons, as although not much scoring was done in the term, they were all Dragon scores. Within the first minute the great veteran in Ljp86 had sunk a major, with Bonz following up only a matter of minutes later. When nearly ten minutes later had passed, with no scores either way, Bonz got us another. While not a pretty game even at this point, with many changes of possession and errors everywhere, we actually went into three quarter time with a 6 point advantage. Given the first half, this was quite a turnaround. Our challenge was to hold on in the last.

Well it only took a couple minutes into the last and we got the major we were looking for - Knifey Spoony, despite being wheeled out onto the ground hooked up to life support having stubbornly refused to eat anything but Subway and having still failed to get a Subway voucher, somehow managed to get us our first major. This followed up several minutes later by Bonz once again who was well and truly used to the conditions at this point and was well in control, and suddenly we were 19 points up. It wasn't smooth sailing from here however as after the Rats threatened to trouble the scoreboard a few times as the quarter waned, they finally snagged 2 goals in red time to Catsnlakers and sataris.

Pleasingly however, our team defense held the last few minutes and we finally ran out 6 point winners. We did it! The stats sheet was, quite frankly, disgusting and only useful as spare toilet paper, but a win is a win.

• While very slim pickings for both players, Stoods had the better of philreich. - 7m from 90 to 97.
• In a resume-material performance, GremioPower was easily the winner in the clash with Strigoi. - 100m from 0 to 100.
• While overall a quiet day for both players, RPCB did a demolition job on Strigoi. - 9m from 89 to 98.
• While not all all one-way, T2B_ was slightly more polished than Firestarter. - 98m from 0 to 98.

Defender highlights: Stoods (16d, 5m, 2t) was a standout for us at half back. His DT of 65 was also actually the highest of our squad. He was ably supported by HawkAussie (10d, 7m) on the opposite flank and Blaze Storm (11d, 4m). Our defense as a whole were important in this slog of a game and while stats aren't pretty, they well and truly did their job.

Midfield highlights: In what is becoming a bit of a consistent theme, Pie 4 Life (13d, 2g, 2b) was once again the star midfielder for us, getting amongst the play and also hitting the scoreboard. He had handy support in T2B_ (12d, 5t, 1b), DragoDelph (16d, 1g) and Matt_352 (13d, 7m). It wasn't a day for flashy numbers or highlights but the midfield cracked in and did what it had to.

Forward highlights: It would be slim pickings for our forwards in the conditions but Bonz (3d, 3g) really made his touches count. The Dragons great in Ljp86 (11d, 6m, 1g) had the one important major but most impressive was his working up the ground. Knifey Spoony (1d, 1g) managing the goal for his solitary kick for the game has to get a mention simply for his effort from his hospital bed, and every goal truly counted for this game.

It's always great to see multiple Dragons featuring in the votes for the beez Award - for contribution to the league, and this season was no different. I fell just short of the win with 1399 votes, but there was also another Top 20 performance from Bonz (593 votes), as well as big hauls from T2B_ (222), Ljp86 (168), DragoDelph (146) and Strigoi (106). Braklet also did well with 27 votes in his debut season. Well done all!​

The co-captain of the minor premiers the Dragons, this season serial_thrilla makes his third appearance in the All SFA side. After yet another superb season off the field in the world of media - placing second in the beez - serial has also maintained the league's statistics thread and provided data for many side projects. His presence in Dragons match threads is unmistakable with 131.6 posts per week, and he was a key component to the success of #grandfinalrematch. He was also ranked among the top defenders this season, with his 165 disposals ranked #1 for all full backs over the 17 rounds.

Bonz (DRA) - Full Forward
3rd All SFA Selection
Dragons star forward Bonz claims his rightful place as All SFA full forward this season after being unanimously being voted in by the Committee. His 70 goals was a league high, and he shall claim the Fred Medal after falling just short in the past two seasons. Bonz was a behemoth in Dragons match threads this season, with 91.0 posts per week and a reputation for his risqué posting style. Bonz also dove into media, and was rewarded with an eleventh place finish in the beez.

T2B_ (DRA) - Rover
All SFA Debut
Dragons co-captain T2B_ makes his All SFA debut this season after being unanimously voted in as the rover by the Committee. This season he was ranked #1 in the league for Dreamteam Points (1451), #2 for Exie Points (1656), #2 for tackles (107) and #5 for disposals (352), and also kicking a goal a game (17). Whilst captaining his team to the minor premiership, T2B_ also accumulated 70.5 match thread posts per week as he builds his reputation in the league.

Pie 4 Life (DRA) - Interchange
All SFA Debut
Sweet FA Hall of Famer Pie 4 Life finally rectified the glaring gap in his resume this season as he gains his debut Sweet FA guernsey in the 29th season of a career that is currently sitting just shy of 500 games! Playing the ruck rover role for the Dragons, Pie was ranked #1 in the league for tackles with an impressive 110 to his name. He was also ranked #2 for Dreamteam Points (1424), #3 for Exie Points (1653) and #8 for disposals (342). His resurgence in match threads continues with 15.3 posts per week, whilst he even delved into media for the first time this decade. Pie received a place on the bench after receiving 8 Committee votes for selection.​

Having just come off a win against the Swamprats, we were now coming up against the East Side Hawks. Apparently they are called the Phoenix or something now, but I will likely either forget to call them that because of old age or simply because I don't give a toss for their rebrand. But alas, I digress.

To get our season on track, we wanted to get another win on the trot. We were confident our best had started coming back. Or had it?

[RD 5], Conditions for this match - RAINY

Well, it was a rainy affair at The Eyrie so that was already a less than stellar start to our day. Still, crap weather was nothing to new for us Dragons, and hell, we won a premiership last season through some awful conditions.

The first quarter was really a tale of two halves. The first half of proceedings looked like it was going to be a blow out to the Phoenix. They had a run of 5 goals (one of them by known liar MC Bad Genius, to rub salt into the wound) putting them up a frustrating 31 points midway through the first term and I had begun to wonder if my Dragons had actually turned up at all. Thankfully, however, we swung things back our way with 4 goals on the trot of our own and went into quarter time only 4 points down. A deficit, but largely a reset after the initial early blowout.

The second quarter was a bit strange, as the fast scoring seemed to dry up, even if the ground itself had not. Both sides traded multiple behinds and played backwards and forwards footy. The Hawks had gotten an early goal, only for us to respond through a major to Hatchy1992. Edging close to red time, it was once again Hatchy that slotted another. He celebrated particularly hard after that goal - I am not sure if it's because he had been the one to slot both the Dragons goals this term or whether because he finally got a Subway voucher. Probably the latter. In any case we went into half time with a 2 point advantage, so we were sticking right by them.

The third term looked to be a bit of the Bonz show that we've come to love, as he managed to snag 3 more goals in the term at key intervals - beginning, middle and end. However he only had DJ75 as partner in crime who slotted one of his own and unfortunately we did concede 4 goals to the Phoenix. All said and done, this meant we went into 3 quarter time with scores level. An arm wrestle indeed.

Still, we have a champion team who know how to get things done so we were confident of bringing it home in the last. Things were hopeful as while the Hawks kicked the initial goal, Strigoi quickly responded with her second major of the match bringing scores level once more, showing yet again what a powerhouse she is around the ground as a ruck. Unfortunately, it all sort of fell off a cliff from here - the Hawks kicked the next 4 goals, with our only response coming from Bonz kicking his 6th goal for the match, but this was right at the end of the term and once the final siren rang... we had gone down by 18 points.

Very disappointing, but we clearly ran out of legs - we had to rue our first quarter blow out and the catch up game we played because of it. In these conditions it simply took too much out of the squad. Too much fast food or not enough during the week? That would be the thing to ponder after this result.

Defender highlights: It was difficult conditions for our defenders. A combination of poor, slippery weather and an unrelenting Phoenix outfit meant they were up against it all day. Nool Carpenna (11d, 6m), Blaze Storm (12d, 1m) and serial_thrilla (10d, 3m) competed as well as they could, but sadly we didn't have too many winners in their positions here.

Midfield highlights: The midfield battle was interesting, as we beat or at least broke even with the Phoenix here. DragoDelph (25d, 4m, 3t) continued his fine form since moving onball, while Strigoi (18d, 16ho, 2g, 1b) supplied our mids superbly and had an impact around the ground and on the scoreboard herself. Bradesmaen (18d, 7m) provided some good drive down the wing and Pie 4 Life (20d, 4t) did his thing.

Forward highlights: Our forward woes for Season 33 continued unfortunately, in terms of options and goal spread. Bonz (11d, 6g, 4b) continued to nearly break his back by carrying us, helping himself to a nice bag. Braklet (17d, 2m, 1g) was a strong presence at CHF and DJ75 (15d, 5m, 1g) was productive alongside him.

And so along came Round 6, and with it a game we had either been dreading or looking forward to, depending on who in the team you would ask. Personally, I couldn't wait for the team to face the Bombers and hopefully send them crashing to Earth. Well, even more crashed to Earth - their record so far this season wasn't amazing. But still, you can only face your opposition on the day and our record hasn't been stellar either.

Would we pull off a desperately needed win, or would the Bombers manage to earn the bragging rights and send us slinking back to Crocodile Drunkees?

Round 6, Conditions for this match - CLOUDY

As the team ran onto the field at Ljp86's Lair under cloudy skies, the atmosphere was palpable. The crowd was loud and our team looked determined. I will admit, even I was taken aback at just how determined the team turned out to be. What would follow would have to be seen to be believed. It was definitely enough to make me put Animal Crossing aside for at least 80% of the match.

The game lasted about 10 minutes. I mean this almost literally. The Bombers managed to draw first blood through Metalcrusher, while Knifey Spoony, beyond desperate now for that Subway voucher, responded with a goal of his own. Bonz then burst out of the blocks to give us 2 goals of his own in succession. The Bombers then snuck in a major of their own through Noidenous to bring the margin back to just under a goal.

That was the last time the Bombers were seen alive.

Bonz once again got a major, showing no signs of his sore back from carrying us the previous weeks, and from here on in the first quarter it was all Dragons! Goals (and a fair share of behinds as well) rained down for the rest of quarter from the likes of DJ75, DragoDelph, Strigoi, Ljp86, Pie 4 Life and, naturally, Bonz (his 4th for the term!) meant we were a staggering 55 points up at the first break. An incredible quarter where all in all we had kicked 10 goals, 8 behinds.

Entering the second term, the Bombers would naturally be looking for a pulse. But the defibrillator would never come. Chief, having moved up the ground, kicked us off with a nice goal. Bonz threatened with 2 minor scores in a row before kicking truly for his 5th goal, bringing the margin, in a rather poetic fashion, to 69 points. Knifey Spoony finally scored his second goal, bringing up the Subway voucher once and for all and he looked a new man. Braklet, Ljp86 got in on the action before once again Bonz showed the Bombers had no answer for him. Knifey Spoony kicked his 3rd (!) goal before the Bombers finally got a goal, thanks to JustaBattler late in the term. However Bonz wasn't done yet, ragdolling his defenders to slot another goal just before half time, bringing the margin to a whopping 103 points at the main break.

Ljp86 informed us that the second half of the Qox Qooty telecast was being moved to the Adults Only channel, and he wasn't wrong. I looked around during the break and saw network executives looking nervous and Bomber fans covering their children's eyes - the sight so far was not for the faint of heart and didn't look likely to improve.

The third quarter was actually a little better for the Bombers. By better, I mean instead of being absolutely annihilated, they were merely destroyed. But if we're being fair they at least reduced the margin a little. Goals to T2B_, Bonz and DJ75 gave us a great start and got the margin out to a game high 119 points before the Bombers finally hit back with 2 goals in a row. Braklet snuck another goal in before the Bombers kicked 4 goals to close out the term in red time.

Obviously wanting a second voucher, Knifey Spoony started us off in the final term with his 4th goal, followed up by Bonz throwing his weight around yet again with his 9th goal. From here on it was a bit of a shoot out for the term, with the Bombers getting a few goals in, while our own Hatchy1992 and Chief slotted a major each. Closing out one of the best full forward performances in recent memory, Bonz another couple of goals bringing his total up to a brilliant 11 goals for the match.

When the siren sounded, we had a final margin of 98 points. Not quite the triple figure margin in the end, but given we had basically been in junk time since half time and cruising, one cannot complain. A brilliant win, not soon forgotten.

Defender highlights: With an absolutely staggering first half, the defense had relatively little to do, such was the strength of our offense. Then with essentially junk time to follow, it's a little hard to get a read on our defensive unit statistically, but suffice to say like the whole team, everyone played their role and did their job, to say the least. HawkAussie (15d, 6m) defended well and got a decent amount of it. Blaze Storm (11d, 5m) likewise held up his end of the bargain and Ashman OG (18d, 9ho) had looked likely before I decided to switch him for Strigoi in the ruck for the fun of it.

Midfield highlights: The engine room fired on all cylinders, no doubt about it. T2B_ (24d, 12t, 1g, 2b) was relentless all day and tackled the hell out of the opposition, while Pie 4 Life (20d, 9t, 1g, 3b) was his partner in crime. DragoDelph (30d, 5m, 1g, 1b) was everywhere in the centre as was Bradesmaen (28d, 5m) on the wing. The midfield was further bolstered by some incredible numbers from the half forwards as we'll see below.

Forward highlights: If we had been lamenting our forward craft last week, it was definitely not so this week. Braklet (37d, 11m, 2g, 4b) was absolutely phenomenal at CHF, blitzing around the forward half and outpacing even the onballers for sheer disposals. Bonz (16d, 11g, 5b) was at his absolute best, and a little terrifying given he had 16 scoring shots in total. Supporting Braklet expertly around the HFF were DJ75 (20d, 10m, 2g, 1b) and Ljp86 (21d, 6m, 2g). Finally, we have to mention the finally nourished Knifey Spoony (7d, 4g, 1b) who broke a major drought and made his presence known in the forward pocket.

Coach's thoughts:

With the excitement of facing the Bombers out of the way and a whole heap of celebrations after that win, it was time to face the Warriors. We've had the wood over the Warriors for a while (much to their chagrin) and we weren't about to let them get back one over us. Still no game is guaranteed.

Would we once again send the Warriors packing (and complaining to the SFA managers) or would they finally get some pride back?

This one was an Away game at Van Cortlandt Park, so the crowd might have seemed hostile if not for the fact there might have been all 5 of the Warrior fans there. The weather was a bit of a treat - warm and still.

I thought to myself we might have another stats fiesta on our hands, and hopefully, a good win for the Dragons. What followed though was a strikingly even game. A little too even, as it turns out.

It took over 5 minutes for either side to score; the ball being exchanged between the sides like some kind of hot potato and the contest was fierce. In true fashion for our full forward behemoth though, it was Bonz that got us off and running with a major. No one scored again until red time however, when the Warriors finally landed a blow through Mesc. Pie 4 Life and Braklet quickly responded with a major each to get us a 14 point advantage at quarter time.

The second quarter was rather odd - it seemed like a flurry of scores (about 6 goals worth) from both sides all happened in less than one minute. I assume this was a mistake on my part though, as I was pretty distracted looking up cruise ship deals online at the time. Anyway according to the stats Braklet opened the quarter for us with a goal, only for the Warriors to respond with 3 goals of their own. The goals kept coming from the Warriors, but in between - so did Bonz. Each time they got 1 or 2 majors he would respond with one of his own, culminating in him kicking 4 goals for the quarter (5 total to this point) and it was looking like the Bonz Show (as usual). He didn't have many friends joining in, however, (though T2B_ kicked a couple of quick behinds - so close) so as half time rolled around, we only had a 1 point advantage.

After getting some input from the team about the deals I had found online, which they had little interest in (young people today, I tell you), they rolled out for the third term. This was another quarter of ultimately trading blows and it was obvious this match was a war of attrition. We got a few goals through Matt_352, Nool Carpenna and Strigoi while the Warriors snuck a few through themselves. For the opposition though perhaps their greatest achievement was finding a way to curtail Bonz, who kicked just the one minor score for the quarter. All in all the Warriors had just edged ahead for a 2 point advantage at three quarter time.

Knifey Spoony got us underway in the final quarter with a major. The Warriors hit back with 2 majors before Knifey Spoony once again kicked a goal, helping himself to another Subway voucher, followed up by Matt_352. The term continued with this trading of blows that ultimately saw 6 (!) lead changes and we might have just pulled ourselves over the line, but the Warriors' BEEG caused us just enough grief at full forward, kicking 2 of his 4 goals for the match in the final term.

While Bonz had been kept quiet for the second half, in the end he did save the game for us: With less than 2 minutes to go, the Warriors' PhatBoy managed to nail a major to put them a goal up. With less than a minute remaining, however, we managed to edge the ball forward and Bonz, never to be outdone, received a long handball, sold some candy and blasted one through the big sticks. A few moments after the next centre bounce, the final siren rang out - and it was a draw.

Both sides were down on their haunches and looked pretty flat, and who can blame them?

Defender highlights: HawkAussie (17d, 6m) continued his nice run of form at half back, ably assisted by Stoods (14d, 6m), while Blaze Storm (13d, 5m) did his thing at CHB. This was a difficult game for defenders of either side as the ball was liable to slingshot inside 50 rapidly.

Midfield highlights: Bradesmaen (29d, 5m, 1b) was at his ball magnet best on the wing. His partner on the opposite wing in Matt_352 (14d, 3m, 2g) while less prolific did sink two important goals. Nool Carpenna (16d, 17ho, 1g, 1b) very ably took care of the ruck situation once he was moved off the interchange bench for Strigoi. The aforementioned Strigoi (16d, 3m, 3t, 1g, 2b) did grind away well onball, though I did notice some scowls coming my way up in the coaches box. T2B_ (25d, 3m, 4t, 4b) was a terrier in the midfield whose only real blemish was not splitting the sticks with multiple attempts. BringBackTheAnchor (18d, 5t) was also quite handy after coming off the bench for Pie 4 Life who suffered a sprained ankle after ironically slipping on one of his pies.

Forward highlights: While last week the forward line was like a well oiled machine, it was a bit less so this week, with our reliance being a little too much on our main man again. Bonz (7d, 2m, 6g, 1b) continued his run for the Fred Medal and kept us in the game early and also ultimately saved us from true defeat. Knifey Spoony (3d, 2g) was the only other forward to kick multiple goals, though I suspect it was mainly to get his Subway voucher!
