You're all assuming he's playing in defence for team structure, or that's where the coach thinks he fits best at the moment, or there are other mids in front of him currently in the coaches eyes, or something along those lines.

More likely it's to manage the loads on his body. If the conditioning staff believe his body is ready to play there, we will see him there, you can count on it.
Yes - this. I'll be surprised if he doesn't play defence most of this year.

Like a certain other blond kid in his first year who is now captain.

Spoke to him tonight about the prospect of winning the rising star, of course he doesnt care and would be much happier that the team gets results and he can keep playing his role. He is more worried about keeping his spot in the side for starters haha
He's such a star he's even already elite in media training and PR, saying exactly what he should say not what he thinks!

This is the same guy who already admitted he wanted and worked hard for pick 1. Of course the competitive little beast wants the RS real bad lol

He puts himself under no pressure at all. It's remarkable.

Surley a lock for the rising star?

Also what happened to all those McLuggage lovers?
Nobody is a lock for the RS this far out. If he keeps this form up he'll go bloody close though

Yeah I know. I screwed the pooch on that call.

But I will quite happily look like a dickhead for my previous comments about McCluggage for the next 10 years as Pidge grows in to a wonderful player and a leader both on and off the field.

So happy to be so wrong!!

The overwhelming majority were going off youtube clips and write ups on the D&T board. Actually watching these kids play McGrath seems an absolute no brainer. He's slotted in perfectly and already looks like a senior player. When he moves up the ground and gets a mature rig he'll just cut teams to absolute shreds. Going to be something special to watch!

Just looked at McLuggage's stats, while I haven't seen him play, for a goal kicking agressive midfielder he barley touches the football, dosen't kick goals, dosen't tackle, dosen't appear to do anything.

I saw those clips McGrath looked like Gary Ablett, McLuggage was like Jay Neagle playing as a rover, didn't even touch the ball half the time.

I would add one further point, I liked McCluggage because we have struggled for small forward goal kicking options, how quickly that problem has been fixed with Fanta, Walla and Green with Begley waiting in the wings.

When we picked up Green I felt it gave it away which way the club was going as in lending towards McGarth over McCluggage.

Yep we're not comparing McGrath to some bloke who went at pick 372, McCluggage was still seen by experts as one of the best few kids in the country. He was always going to be a slower burn, and I'm sure will still turn out to be a jet. Let's not get carried away and write off a guy after half a dozen games.

Judging McCluggage this early is ridiculous. Don't need to put him down to prop up McGrath. Andrew was always the more ready made player.

Reminds me of the Parish/Oliver sentiments from last year.
