Chad Warner
When the Sydney Swans swept up Chad Warner with pick 39 at the 2019 AFL Draft, they secured a youngster with an insatiable appetite for the contest. Warner attacks the ball and opponents with aggression and is relishing calling midfield bulls Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker his teammates at the Swans. Warner impressed for Western Australia in the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 18.2 touches (50 per cent contested), 3.2 clearances and 6.8 tackles per game. He also tallied an average of 27.1 disposals, 6.4 clearances and 7.4 tackles per match at Colts level for East Fremantle in 2019. He earned his AFL debut against Richmond in Round 6 of the 2020 season, recording eight disposals and two tackles.

DOB: 19 May 2001

Parker got junk time once in 5 times and was just shit otherwise but owned it

Chad is 2 from 2.

Chad had a crack in 22, he was interesting this year, he was trying to do stuff , I just thought he got lost at times and had no space.

I won't derail the thread talking about Mr Junktine .

I'm hurting, bedders.

yep it sucks keep your chin up

Again another favourite . I did rewatch it , Warner was playing like he had all the time in the world , no awareness.

Agree re Adams
This was one of the frustrating things during the game. There were a number of players that just held on to the ball for far too long. They had no awareness that a Brisbane player was approaching them and they had to rush their kick, which mostly went straight to a Brisbane player. How can they not realise they would be under pressure in a Grand Final?

If he is gonna leave I'd rather him just go now. Not his biggest fan anyway.
Yep. If there is any truth to the fact that he plans on moving on within the next 12 months, do it for him now. If we keep hold of him for the remainder of the contract, we will end up with another Dawson situation where the club has to take unders because he is out of contract and we are over a barrel.

Given his Partner is from WA who is doing the pulling i doubt we will change his mind in 12 months time.

Hate when players especially when he was overlooked and we took a chance with him end up holding the club hostage.

Was he overlooked though?

Drafted at 18 with a late 2nd/early 3rd after some slide action?

Anyway, hope he stays at the Swans. WA can bugger off.

What Ralph reported last night sounded like it was coming from Chad’s camp, maybe even a leak from his manager.

Maybe he and his camp are trying to engineer something to happen this off season? That’s what it sounded like to me anyway.

To all those bagging him , try and replace hm !
You are not going to be able to, that's the reality. But personally, I'd prefer to get a couple of 1st rounders for him this year than have him walk next year for a single first rounder with a WA club saying he's not worth any more, then making him a club captain and erecting a statue for him upon arrival.

We can't replace him, but given there has always been talk about him heading back to WA at some stage, to me it's a lost cause.

As a team we could have continued to build a game plan around him and could have got the absolute best out of him. But given that's looking like a short term option, there's no point in investing in a player who will not be part of our long-term future.

If I were in Chad's shoes, the GF result would have solidified in ny mind that if I were looking to head home, now would be a good a time as any.

A close loss may have engendered a sense of unfinished business, but the demolition job suggests there's a fair bit of work to do before we're in a strong position to win a premiership. If you're not invested long-term, then I don't think the hard work required in 2025 would be a great pull for him.

Straight swap for Reid you reckon?

He also said Collingwood were coming for Logan when they weren’t, so take with a grain of salt…
The last paragraph is an acknowledgement of the WA clubs know they will have the swans over a barrel next year so will avoid doing anything this year.

If the club is as savvy as we believe it to be. It would have an open and honest conversation with Warner about his intentions and trying to make it happen this year provided the WA clubs come to the party.

With a player like Warner on the market, you'd be foolish to play funny buggers and not expect your biggest rival to pounce if there was a chance of securing his services this year.

Freo would surely want to deal now, particularly Longmuir would be interested in strengthening his list immediately.

Better for us if he goes this year tbh.
He's a great player, but one dimensional, and there's so much of this team that needs to change.

I get the sentiment behind trading him this year to maximise our returns but I don't think that's the play.

A lot can change in 12 months time, we should be backing ourselves to try to keep him, and it's not like we're going to get a poor return for him next year regardless.

We aren't far off a Premiership like keep trying to insist. We're a few days removed from a second GF appearance in 3 years FFS and I'd back our improvement next year to match, or be close enough to matching, other clubs next year (outside of maybe Brisbane given the players they have to return, their list is scarily good) to hold our position. I think the only older player on our list that's nearing the end that will be particularly hard to replace is Rampe.

We do need to win more clearances though. I think that means starting one of Warner/Gulden on a HFF or wing - they should almost never be at the same centre bounce if we want to be competitive there. We need Sheldrick to break into the best 22 next year, or maybe Mills to find his mojo again in the midfield.

Any talk of getting Serong for Warner is fanciful. He seems very settled at Fremantle, there's no reason he would be interested.
