Time for a spell in the 2's no doubt - in fact the time was a few weeks back.

He is young and he has some positive traits - however there is a growing sample size to suggest that he wont make it - that his dna weaknesses will overwhelm his positives and that our reach for him in the second round of the draft will be a mistake.

I'd like to see him play 4-5 weeks straight in the VFL in the guts - to see whether he can dominate at that level.

I know our 2's are poor but if he truly has a career at afl level he will find a way to impose himself at VFL level - let's give him that chance.

I like to give plenty of time and chances to see what we're working with here, but sheesh this kid was due for a run in the 2s a month ago, maybe longer.
Having him as the sub is not doing his confidence any favours.

Has played 38 games for only 5 wins (says more about the club)
In that time he has averaged:

Disposals: 10.47
Goals: 0.42
Tackles: 2.89
Clangers: 2.00
Goal Assist: 0.42 (only 2 this season)

It's just not enough, the disposals you could forgive if at least 3 were scores and another 2 assisted a score. You can't reward mediocrity, it breeds a bad culture.
Also for a small forward, he shows very little hunger to snag goals. Like look at Jack Ginnivan. That kid wants to goal with every touch he gets.

That 2019 draft is coming back to haunt us.

To think we passed up both Trent Rivers and Chad Warner.

Kicked 3 goals in the first 4 rounds of the season. He seems to have lost confidence/form after hurting his ankle against the Dogs.

I know for a fact that the coaches have been very happy with him over the last year or so. My understanding is they don't want him to play a role that is completely focused on goals.

Having said that I think it was not great coaching to drop him from the seniors only to name him as the emergency the following week and then return him to the seniors the week after that off the back of one touch in a quarter. So they missed two opportunities for him to go back to the VFL and get his hands on the ball and build some confidence. He is now likely to be dropped this week with no VFL to play due to the bye. Seems like extremely shortsighted player management.

For mine it's got to be about his long term chances as well - it's great that he listens and obviously follows instructions but he needs to be given an opportunity to deliver. I can't see how the current setup is in his interests long term.

My my recent observations of Jack is that he has thickened up a lot in the legs, but, hasn't added strength or speed. He actually appears slower and still doesn't hold his ground in close contests. I don't think it is just confidence. His body isn't maturing in a way that is conducive to footy.

One does wonder whether the recruitment of such type of footballer as Jack has had a bearing on the departures.

I think it funny we cop shit for Phillips over McDonald when the real issue is our poor choices in the second round.

I’d argue Phillips all day , Mahony I would concur was a horrid choice

Oh well

We were rumoured to be keen on chad warner too who went 5 picks after :(

It's compounded by the fact that we had been linked with Chad Warner all the way up until draft night, instead we went with Perez and Mahony with back to back picks.

In saying that, lucky we went with Mahony over Elijah Taylor who we had also been linked with prior to the draft. Taylor now playing reserves in the WAFL after domestic assault charges on his then girlfriend.

I like Perez and think that will prove to be smart recruiting. I have no clue on who we might have drafted as I don't follow juniors. I know you do and I appreciate the knowledge you share. If as you say we were linked to Warner who is going well that is disappointing.

Where did you have Jack out of curiosity? He looked underwhelming from the get-go with hindsight fully engaged.

And this is not about besmirching him as a young man I'm sure he's a mighty fine dude. This is about him never being good enough to play football at the highest level. Just like me and the majority of the population.

And Why TF did we need to sign him all the way through to 2023?
