The McClelland Trophy is going to be awarded to the best performing club across AFL and AFLW together with a $1 million prize money. Melbourne would have been the winner if it was awarded last year, and will be favoured to win the Trophy this year

No brainer to come up with a champion club trophy (not sure why you wouldn't come up with a new one and keep the McClelland for the minor premiers but anyway), but no idea why you would put up a million bucks. We need to provide monetary incentives to win now?

Don't mind a combined trophy for both competitions but as you said the AFL could have come up with a new trophy that would reflect both competitions. The McClelland Trophy will get ever more confusing in an historical since now.

So do we get a new Minor Premier trophy? or is that now scrapped?

Agree 100%. Whilst it’s a good concept to determine the best club across both the men and women’s elite competitions, they could surely have chosen a new name for the trophy

Why? It was originally the trophy for the best team accross 3 divisions. This is essentially returning to how it once was

I’d just bring back the AFL reserves and have it for the best club across the 3 divisions.

I don’t follow the women’s footy at all, but do think it could bring more focus on the game if they are all striving for one collective goal

Its been a non event since day #1. Throw money at it to try and raise its significance. Add a couple more heads to AFL marketing.
