Ironic from someone who has shown impatience during the season with the development and success of our team.
What? I never expected us to be contesting finals the last two years, and next year I think we only have a slightly above average chance of sneaking into the 8 before free-falling out of it majorly the next 2 years after that as major blooding happens in our KPP stocks and huge scale retirements happen.

FWIW I haven't been saying Wellsy is going to be a 300 game player for us, or JWS is going to be a 250 game player for us straight off the bat. All I've said is they have had talent but talent doesn't mean they're going to make it. Its frustrating to see that talent get wasted in some cases (Shane Harvey) or not realised in others (Ashley Watson). At the moment we're neither here nor there, we're no where near a premiership side, we're a good 3-4 years before our young kids can start competing for one and even then we're not guaranteed even a 50% chance that the kids who are on our list at the moment will be there in 3-4 years time because of form/injuries/trading etc.

I'm realistic if anything...but patience never has been a virtue of mine

I just hope he is as good as Dad. One of my all-time favourite Shinboners. Fearless, tireless and never took a backward step... unless it was into a pack to take a mark.
Your Dad played for North?, What number did he wear?

Top 10 in our B&F??? I'd say we would be in massive trouble next year if a 17-18 year old kid is amongst our best all year.

I think he will be lucky to play a game next year - just like Trotter this year. If he does get a crack, it will only be a handful of games.

Trotter missed most of last year 03 through injury and really started the 04 season behind the eight ball, he had a very good year this year considering where he came from.

However Smith unlike Trotter should be nearly ready to go, given this will effectively be his second preseason with us.

At a guess and depending on form Smith should play 10 - 12 games this year.

played in the 70's and early 80's. 27. :D

Sorry it was a typing error. It should have read his Dad. But it is nice to know someone actually reads what I write.

If I see your name, I generally do a quick scan for Laker references, and if it checks out all clear, I dive right in.

i think anything to do with Sinus damage means he can't fly.

He might be unavailable because of this (though a broken nose does not necessarliy mean sinus problems)

Very good point. Even if the sinus area is ok it would still have to be damn painful with the pressure.. worth putting him through that ?

Can't see any logic in him playing. Miss this week and it effectively gives him three weeks off. Why would we play him with an injury like that?
He's not a match winner yet so a few weeks off wouldn't hurt the team.

LeCras has been told he will play, which is interesting.

I dont mind that at all. He doesnt do a hell of a lot (as in possension wise), but he presents all day and makes some strong leads. Which in turn creates room in the forward line for thommo. I think he works well in the forward line and he kicked a nice goal on the weekend.

Isnt he originaly from WA?

Yes, his brother plays for the Eagles.

Would love to see Trotter come in for him, although form probably doesn't warrant it yet considering he has just come back from injury. I get the impression they are fairly interchangeable. I thought Trotter looked pretty good on Saturday.

I'd imagine Michael Stevens will replace him.

Had a mate at Calder last year so caught a couple games. Smith was a freak, could tell he was going to be quailty.

Havn't heard much of him since then.

  • How was his first season?
  • This pre-season thus far?
  • Expectations?
