Didnt play too bad yesterday, I dont mind George TBH i do laugh at all the negative comments though, I remember when Rioli used to be our small forward whipping boy. However George going to the backline would be suicide, would never work. Castagna is just lucky Butler jumped first all those years ago otherwise he probably would have been gone a lot earlier.
George has got three things he does at an elite level consistently, endurance, repeat sprinting and sticking tackles. He would actually be suited to being an old fashioned midfield tagger. With our problems killing the ball from the centre when we don't win a clearance, he should be playing this role in the midfield at VFL level to add some more strings to his bow.

Please no. Can just see him grabbing the tap and handballing it straight to the oppositions best mid.

If Judson was still in the team and had 14 disposals, 5 marks, 4 tackles and a goal we'd be praising him.

All hail the king.
George has played 130 games of senior AFL football and that is as good a game we can expect from him these days, including the shocking turnovers that lead to goals on the rebound. Judson in his FIRST GAME had 11 disposals, 3 marks, 3 tackles & 2 goals, so not too far off what we get from George week in and week out, yet one of them has a far bigger scope for improvement. I understand that Clarke hasn't produced those numbers for his next 2 games, but we should be giving him, or Stack or Cumberland more games to try and at least find out whether they can play at the level.

Castagna is 25 years old, so as a small isn't going to improve much over what you see today. We know what his level is now and it is bloody average. Let's see if we can develop someone better.

Stats from the weekends games:-

Clarke 16 disposals (75%), 10 kicks, 5 marks 1 goal 1
Cumberlnd 15 disp (86%), 9 kicks, 8 marks 2 goals 3
Stack 15 disposals (86%) 7 kicks, 7 marks 1 goal 1
Castagna 14 disposals (64%), 4 kicks, 5 marks 1 goal

And what do we as a club put above stats? Tackles, defensive pressure etc

Give us those stats

Coming from you with no ability to discuss anything substantial , Im glad your using pictures to emphasis your abilities

Nice to see you have graduated from crayons

No point if 1 he doesn't stick his tackles, 2 there are **** all goals scored from them 3 he costs us twice as much in turnovers to the opposition through guarding space and poor disposal and 4 other players who we could have played are kicking goals.

Add to that we could be better developing others in the firsts and its a massive net loss.

Yeah im with ya but Judson was poor two weeks in a row. Cumberland doesn't play small or apply pressure and Stack seems on the outer and is flaky with effort.

The kick on the weekend in the first or second quarter when he was in open space. He missed the target and it went OOB. Classic Castagna.

Or the handball where we were streaming forward and he had to hit a handball 5m to his right and put it out of bounds....

Comparing our side in 2016 to our premiership side of 2017 you could see that the new additions that replaced the generations of list cloggers was most important in our success. Yes Castagna was involved in all of our flags, but every player has a use by date and some a lot longer than others. Comparing George to Cotchin as a food source on their careers, George would be cooked rice with a short shelf life whilst Cotchin is uncooked long grain rice. Cotchin is one of those players that will play to the maximum his body and ability can take him whereas George will have a fully fit body at retirement, but not the ability. He's been an inadequate nutrient to the RFC success for 20 months and possibly longer and has been the luckiest man on an AFL list to go from 100-130games.

Caddy also had a need in our side 2017/18. George is not our future. Trade for a packet of chips and that would be ok. Least I don't have to watch him stinking it up for us anymore. He's no good

Disrespectful to compare to Caddy
Caddy kicked 40 goals in 18 and should have been AA
Castagna has never been near that
Sure he played his role very well, but tbh other players could've played that role

He is a limited footballer, much like Aarts, we should look to trade away imo. They have reached their cealing
With Castagna if he can at least somewhat recapture the 19 Grannie form then of course we keep him, but otherwise, thank you for your service
3 flags on the way out doesn't sound bad either

George gets a game simply because he knows the running patterns that they are instructed to perform when we have the ball and when the oppo has the ball. Guys with more talent don't have that knowledge and until they do, he will be picked in front of them. That is straight from the coach's mouth.

Caddy was great in 17/18. Downhill after that though. With Castagna, trade for as much as possible, might get 2nd or 3rd rounder. Would be worth it.

No club would give a 2nd rounder, not even a late second for Castagna. A late third at best but even that would be a stretch (although I would take it in a heartbeat as it would represent an excellent return for the club). Seriously his greatest value at the trade table is freeing up a list spot. As someone that loathes the idea of trading away picks, I am starting to wonder why we have invested so heavily in the draft for so many years and yet allow this list clogger a free pass almost every week. If he gets anything more than a handful of disposals at 50 percent efficiency he is an automatic selection and it's a job well done. He survives purely by relying on the talents of others, in most other clubs he'd be a coach killer.

Makes sense, can really see him becoming more of a fringe player next year as that next crop have another year in the system and start to develop more size to put more pressure on him

Clarke has already pushed him out of the side once this year so I dare say Clarke could be looking at playing 15+ games next year along with Rioli Jr

Not fit to wear the jumper

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

Because he’s rarely beaten? No one ever says George gets towelled up.
Always first to footy. Always flat out. Always ferocious in the air. Always team first . I ve used a bit of hyperbole here but he’s plays the Richmond way more than most.

And what does that whole package say and do for the Richmond culture ? What do the young blokes think when they see a bloke running around that they are twice as skilled as ? It’s the Richmond way or the highway but if I work hard I’m a chance here.

I came onto this earth when it felt like Premierships grew on trees . 37 years in shitsville taught me something a bit different and I’ll be buggered if a 3 time premiership player isn’t fit to wear the Richmond jumper .
