Two ripping games in a row. I think the fact that Caldwell looks like he has confidence in his body, and this guy is a physically imposing, hard edged mid, has completely changed the complexion of our midfield. If you’ve always got at least one of Hobbs, Caldwell or Will around the ball, there’s a good chance you’re going to either win or break even in the contest.

Actually sticking tackles in the midfield has been important, he's been a surprise to me in that sense, how well he holds his tackles.

Yep. I like how he brings his opponent down to ground because he has that extra size to be able to do so. He nailed Miller a few times and it probably was the difference between the ball being released or not.

Was pretty stiff to not get another holding the ball decision or 2 against GWS. The umpires put the whistle away on those.
Has been excellent. Getting a player with some experience helps too given where our list is at.
No coincidence that our midfield has been much more consistent this year with more experience running through there with Shiel, Merrett and Parish all fit. Plus the inclusion of Setterfield. Plus Draper now has a few seasons under his belt so he's a bit less raw and we have a better idea of what to expect week to week.

Tough hombre.

Late in the game he brought Tom Green down (again) and Green landed on him with all his weight and then Himmelberg went stacks on both of them with Setterfield on the bottom.

Green got up sore, Himmelberg got up sore, Setterfield went straight to the next contest.

Gotta say - I hadn’t seen much of Setterfield before he came to us but my hopes weren’t high. Third club at such a young age didn’t bode well and the perception of him as a Dodoro love child didn’t help either.

Turns out the take that he was a decent player stuck behind Carlton’s armada of big, inside mids was correct. He’s been highly competent and balances out our midfield really well.

Knew he was tall but he also possesses some real grunt and power. As Fairbump said he stops the ball carrier dead when he tackles but he also absorbs heat and offloads when he has the footy. Decent overhead, decent by foot, decent on the spread for a big mid - he’s a good package.

Interesting technique, sort of pins one arm and still manages to protect the head.

I remember Merrett used to pin one arm and it was regarded as textbook until the AFL started using it against the tackler because the player being tackled couldn’t protect themselves with their remaining arm
He has the firm but gentle caress of an experienced lover

Was always a no brainer recruit, even when he left GWS. Adding Shiel & Setterfield together would have been ideal.
Brightside, he gets a couple of years understudying Cripps.
Downside, we could have balanced our midfield a long time ago. but oh well.

I remember when David King floated the idea of letting Heppell and Hurley go as FA in 2016 after the bans and fast-track the rebuild
A draft haul of Clug, Taranto & Setterfield was my wishlist if we entertained that.
