Played 12 games for the Crows in his 2nd year including the last 6 games of the season......Gunston was not held back or lacking opportunities at the Crows, FFS he kicked 5 goals in his last game for us.
I admit I thought he’d played less games for us in his last year but not sure what kicking 5 goals in his last match for us has to do with not being held back? If anything it shows he was more than capable at that level.

You do realise Gunston was a tall with an underdeveloped body when we drafted him?

I liken Mackay to those warhorses who are nothing flashy but do a reasonable job of being consistent. Every premiership team has those typical types.
In 97 we had Kosta, Ellen amongst a few.
In 98 we had Eccles, Thiessen amongst a few.

Even the teams against us in Saints and North during those years, all had average but consistent warhorses.

Name a player thats suffered or been held back ......Who's left the club and done better elsewhere
There's no way to answer that question that will satisfy you. If I give you a name of someone who made it at AFL level, you'll use the fact that he made it as evidence that he wasn't held back. On the other hand, if I give you a name of someone who didn't make it, you'll say they weren't good enough to begin with.

Besides which, if a person is still defending Mackay after seeing him play 200 times, then they're definitely beyond convincing.;)

Just name a player ....leave it to me to rationalize his situation

That career best game was 13 possessions and 3 goals, oh how low we have set the benchmark for Mackay

The funny thing about that game was how the delusional thought it a turning point because he’s now going to be kicking goals. As a few posted, him kicking goals isn’t sustainable, it wasn’t a great game, he just squeezed a few games worth of getting on the end of a possession chain into a quarter and a bit. He’d had about 5 touches to half time and outside of those possession chains was horrible. His good games are when he gets 22+ touches, links up through the square and actually looks up and hits targets. He can do this, but mostly it’s only once or twice per year when there’s no pressure on.

Elite Crow can you please enlighten us as to why you don't think David McKay is a good player? What does/doesn't he do that you don't like?

I like how Rowey said “dmac is our second best lock down defender” tonight.
Bicks “I don’t consider him a lock down defender”
Rowe just spews stuff out with zero thought ......DMac is a woeful defender

Dmac’s only good games are played as a running half back/wingman where he runs hard to receive and then uses his eyes and actually intends to and hit up targets. Even over his very, very, mediocre last few years, he’s played numerous games like this and he’s a valuable footballer when he does. But they’re just so bloody rare that you wonder why we bother when nearly every player on our list could do what he gives us 7 out of every 8 weeks if played for 80% TOG with his field coverage. 16 touches largely chipped to open space or contests combined with a bunch of pressure acts and attempted tackles that largely fail to achieve anything. I know our selection philosophy has always valued experience and continuity highly, but Dmac really doesn’t contribute to our performance in any positive meaningful way. We can still win with him in the side, but we’re better off without him.

I can see why people get frustrated with his selection, but it's not his fault. He does the best he can and it's got him to 200 games. Good on him. It's been harder for him to get to 200 games than a player with natural talent so regardless of playing ability I respect what it took to grind that out.

He's the man in the arena, so I don't expect him to listen to cheap shots, or even valid analysis unless it's from the coach or others in the arena. If he did, he wouldn't have made it to 50 games.

So he also fluked a position in our 2017 GF side .....people simply don't understand player roles & structures

You bunch of hypocrites

I have had to read through 29 pages of broken record crap

And its not the only thread ive had to avoid because of it

You have had to? You’ve chosen to read a Mackay thread.

Despite not wanting Dmack in the team we still want him perform and beat his opponent, you can’t say the same thing with Doedee and you want Burton to be better than him.

If I am honest I would rather DMac over Dougie. Kind of wished he was not playing today.

His late game brain fades cost us two games last year and with a full list I hope he is phased out this year.

Ideal world both these guys dint play.

One day Pyke will stumble upon this Big Footy by mistake while searching Big Booty Babes and he will realise the error of his ways.
We can’t rely on him searching up should I select David again.
