If I am honest I would rather DMac over Dougie. Kind of wished he was not playing today.

His late game brain fades cost us two games last year and with a full list I hope he is phased out this year.

Ideal world both these guys dint play.

We're going to have to put up with both.

Meanwhile we've got three first round picks running around in the SANFL.

I think it was Clarkson who said it's the bottom six players that win you a premiership, not the top six players. There is no way Mackay should be in the team before Douglas. Douglas would be a good depth player in any side, and that's what he is in ours.

Easy to say when you have Rioli, Mitchell, lewis, Hodge, Buddy and Roughie. I don't think so Clarkie.

Scheonmakers is a Premiership player under Clarko.

Having said that I do believe Clarko is correct though. You dont win the flag with your ten best players, but with the depth of your squad. Hence DMac is actually a good depth player for HB. He is plug and play.

We didnt lose the 2017 GF due to DMac playing. Some Premierships are won with guys such depth players.

Neither of them should be best 22. I am just dirty on Dougie basically costing us Finals last year due to two massive brain fades (thst stand out, probably more) that are unacceptable for a senior player.

Shoenmakers actually played very well in the 2015 GF, and made believers of a lot of Hawthorn fans who did not rate him.

So he also fluked a position in our 2017 GF side .....people simply don't understand player roles & structures

People do, most of us actually rate his game day performance the same as the coaches. But as I said, our selection philosophy centres around experience and continuity. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with that response. He didn't fluke anything, he's the poster boy for the way we go about selection. Expected performance doesn't counter the fact that he brings continuity and experience. His selection wasn't against what I posted, it's the proof.

We didn't lose it specifically because of Mackay, but he was certainly one of the players that did nothing to contribute to us winning.

You can lump a lot of players into that category. In fact Mackay had his typical 15 touch zero-impact game. It's just that that sort of game doesn't win flags

What I'm saying & have said, is players do not get AFL games in sides by fluke, or luck .......we've been up in finals contention for a lot of Mackay's career ....so he's earn't the spot

But I've said the last 3 years, there's been plenty of alternatives to him ......but credit to him, he's raised his game accordingly

Yes, from our 22nd best player that we select... to our 22nd best player.

Should have been replaced years ago, as he was a nothing player 3-4 years ago. Equally to that, there has been no raising of Mackays game, he is just the same nothing player now but keeps surviving due to injuries to better players (Smith, Seedsman, Knight have all spent considerable time on the sidelines). Good enough to be not a total liability (usually), not good enough to have even the slightest positive influence on our side in the vast majority of cases.

I hope, with no injuries today, Seed and Gooch come in for DMac and Dougie.

Early call on Dougie, Seed for Dmac for sure. But not sure Gooch will come in off a single SANFL trial. Reckon we’re more likely to see a bit of a shuffle and will see Hugh and Seed in for Murph and Jones. It’s how we roll.

Ironically, I wouldn’t have dropped him for the GF. I’d have found a fit replacement for Hugh, Otto dropped and either Hartigan or Talia to miss due to no match up. The only reason I mention both KPDs is that there was some evidence that Talia carried into the game. He certainly lagged behind an energised Riewoldt, but I’m not sure whether there’s many who could have controlled Jack early in that game. If it’s true that there was some discontent about Lever, then he should have missed through lack of match up.

Yup, in 2013 which made us panic into signing Mackay for 4 seasons.
I bet it was like teasing your mate into talking to the weird girl at school. All the other Melbourne clubs sitting around egging on the Dees, "Go on... Offer him a contract and see what they do."

David Mackay is not a squib. He may be a liability, a lightweight, a turnover merchant, a squib, but he is not a pr0n star
His kicking out of defense was better than the rest last game.
He shouldn’t be there though.
He’ll end up coaching us.

Finishes low in Best & Fairest every season

Been here for years but never been anywhere near our leadership group. Even in our most bloated years hasn't got a gig

No outside recognition from umpires, opposition coaches votes, media awards.

Yet always an automatic selection.

It doesn't add up. It's infuriating to watch and must be even more infuriating for those who miss out on selection for him.

Don't blame the player... I don't. It's 100% on the heads of a lengthening line of sacked coaches.

Spoken like a true Territorian all be it from the Alice. Camels run backwards to keep the dust out of their eyes
😀

Truth be known 1970’s Bulldog is named Dave
Same. I’m a Dave.
Camels have beautiful eyelashes.
They don’t need to run backwards bebe.

He’s entrenched in Adelaide forever. Like the Doc.
