Been here for years but never been anywhere near our leadership group. Even in our most bloated years hasn't got a gig

No outside recognition from umpires, opposition coaches votes, media awards.

Yet always an automatic selection.

It doesn't add up. It's infuriating to watch and must be even more infuriating for those who miss out on selection for him.

Don't blame the player... I don't. It's 100% on the heads of a lengthening line of sacked coaches.

He also is a lucky bastard as the thread suggests, he wasn’t playing if Seed wasn’t injured. We’ve got 4 players he could replace in a role and the guy breaks his finger on a training top, **** me drunk, what’s the luck? I’d love to know who’s top and is in he cahoots with Mackay.

Not just this yr but every year Mackay fights for a spot.
He gets one.
Sometimes dubiously with selection heirachy or through others being unavailable.
I’d put my money on it but his extraction from deep pocket defence to a target was better than Laird and Smith.
As much as it might pang to say, he did his Job. And matched Breust running back so he didn’t get an easy walk in.

Eg Gallucci needing "one more week" in the SANFL. Did Mackay need one more week or were we prepared to rush him in a bit underdone?

We pick and choose when to apply our standards.

The reality is we are two players down in our defence from our best 22.

McKay is a depth player for this area.

He is going to be in the team for a while. At least till Brown is back.

Yes we can move players down back. Guys that have done limited training and learning of the defensive play and attacking movements. Take a quality player from another area, weaken that line to maybe strengthen the backline.

Or we can play a guy we pay as depth who knows the defensive system and is adequate. He was far from the worst player on the park last week. Kelly should be dropped before Mackay. But two hits to the defensive line Brown and Doedee) keeps him in as well.
