Any news on Rioli suspension?

AFL website says “Dons defender Jordan Ridley leaves the field after receiving contact from Junior Rioli in this clash”
I thought Rioli hit him…

Just saw the footage. No way the hit was careless. As he runs towards Ridley (who has eyes only for the ball) Rioli jumps to elevate his body and take out Ridley. What a dog act. Deserves at least 3 weeks, more like 4-5

It’s careless in that he didn’t deliberately try to strike the head with the hand. They seem to really struggle to categorise anything as deliberate these days

It’s a fair point from that perspective. He was definitely trying to put on a hit (not careless) but could be argued the head wasn’t the target

Rioli is not very good at timing his bump. Clumsy.
Then again, if he has launched himself higher to effect the contact, I would have thought the elbows are tucked close to the body and he'd be bracing for the impact. His arm is trailing behind him, isn't it?

  • Rioli tried to bump but he missed him.
  • After running past he flicked out a back hander, clipping the player

So should get at least a week.

Not sure how they argue for reduced impact given a glancing blow was sufficient to cause concussion, the other two factors - careless and high - are pretty well impossible to argue based on the vision. Unless they try to say Jordan concussed himself by turning his head sideways too quickly...

The player left the field with concusssion due to a decision rioli made off the ball.
The end
Bye bye

Yeah that first sentence is the long and the short of it for mine.

Rioli could've flicked him in the back of the ear for all that matters (Which, for the record, hurts on a cold morning).

But Rioli made a deliberate, intentional choice to make contact with Ridley. As a direct result of that action, Ridley was concussed.

Debate intent and bad luck etc... all you like, but there's no denying the cause and effect here.

He does seem to manage to keep doing things that suggest he's perhaps not the sharpest of tools.
Well he got kicked out of Xavier because he wouldn’t go to class and wasn’t even fit enough to play 1sts footy.
He got a nice holiday smoking weed in WA and now further time off on Port’s $$$ to probably go and smoke more weed.

Seems like a bloody genius to me.
