so we should bring in someone who, at this early stage, has been injury prone and his fitness is not 100% ready for the jump from VFL-AFL?
do we want him to break down again?
His injuries have been bad luck and mostly contact type injuries so he's not injury prone in the way Gumbleton was, he's just been very unlucky.

Whilst I'm not going to say he's ready yet, he certainly needs to get his fitness up, from what I've seen of him in the two's he is not far off selection.
His movement was excellent yesterday, as was his leap. Presented and moved very well. Don't be surprised to see him back over the course of the next couple of weeks if this continues.

23 disposals (15k), 8 marks and 3 goals in the VFL. I knew that he kicked a few goals but I didn't realise that he also found so much of the footy.

I doubt that he'd be able to run out an entire game in the seniors right now so he is still a few weeks away. Almost a shame that we don't have the sub any more otherwise you'd probably give him a crack.

Gut feel is that he'll be in for the Norf game. Begley this week, Laverde the next. Not sure who comes out for him though; the kid is a legitimate powerhouse when up and running

I doubt he comes in against North Melbourne. He will need at least a two matches without being managed at VFL level. This weekend is the first match he will play without modified game time/kms run.
He was limited to 10.5 km against North Ballarat in the VFL last weekend and has been given the all-clear to now have unrestricted game time.

The Western Bulldogs match in round 19 on Sunday would be a good target for breaking into the AFL squad.

I don't mind them giving him another week or two to get over any initial humps as he returns from such a long term injury. I fully believe he's in our best 22 when he's got his match conditioning back. However he's not so much better than our next best option that we need to play him while he's still underdone.

I reckon we should wrap him in cotton wool and then save him until the next time we play Geelong.

What could go wrong?
I don't know, bringing him back for the Grand Final for his first game is a tad risky.

Laverde is not good enough below his knees to be an inside midfielder.

What? I don't see that. He's not someone who dives on it, but that doesn't help these days. He has a big body and also has great evasion. He will make a fantastic midfielder. I hope he gets some midfield minutes in VFL this week, Crow said that there is no limitation on his game now.

Unlike Langford, he has some acceleration and can take a big mark. So he will be more potent up forward. I think this explosive power will make him more effective at a stoppage down the track too, but the forward play means that we can play him in seniors more before he's ready to be a starting mid.

While I keep banging on about Dusty in the trade thread I think a full preseason and injury free 2018 to Laverde, Langford and Francis will improve us as much as any trade would.
