Go back to 2019 and tell us we'd lose Hooker, Hurley, Saad, McKenna & Ambrose in the backline by 2021.
With Hind the only recruit.
Panic stations anyone?

They're in for a bludgeoning this weekend.
Ideally the midfield can step up and protect with continued clearance pressure, but also better kicks into the 50.
And Zachy can stop NN's runs by grabbing onto the dreads :p
There were panic stations this pre-season let alone 2019! 🤣

Naah, won't claim I could see this coming, not in defence.

I do think defence has been like a system reset that re-aligned his instincts with his physical ability. Watching Archie play has reminded me quite a bit of 2015 and some big games Laverde played with a similar adult physicality and assured composure.

We could play him forward and I suspect he'd take the game apart and that he'd likely have a similar impact to Stringer in the centre.

He'd be a completely different player now that he's proven to himself that he can dominate the game.

I couldn't believe the number he did on Darling. I can scarcely remember complete ownership of a gun forward by a defender that was on display last night. It wasn't even a favourable matchup. Laverde is a bit more explosive but Darling just as strong but a better endurance athlete. I hough it might have been a bit of a stretch.
He has always had the attributes, maybe all he needed was the right position and confidence in both his body and himself. There is a fair bit of love for Lever at Melbourne right now for the year he is having. Your boy is not too far behind going by the numbers. Laverde.png the comparison.

It's the intercepts that's the big thing

Lever's numbers always need adjustment because his competition plays on opponents.

Lav will cause a Sunday media frenzy, not for his great defensive game contributing heavily towards a win but for Nick's cousin playing so poorly in their loss to Essendon.

Yes, I have a crystal ball and felt all last week we would beat the Wet Toast.
fast forward this week of work please!

Yeah good one, not sure he was was around as long before the big change. I suppose we have to add Parish in their with his form last 6 weeks …through the roof although he have seen glimpses in the past when he was thrown in the middle

Be interested to see where he sits in the B+F right now, id think right up the top. Been rarely beaten.

Certainly plays the smaller types a bit better like Darling but has done very well above his size

Must admit didn't think the move back would work although i did call for a it about 18-24 months ago just to see and find him some more ball and confidence

A great matchup for Jack Riewoldt this week

Takes the ball at its highest point every time - just has the makings of a very potent weapon coming out of the back-half. Such an aggressive defender

HE DOESN'T TAKE THE BALL AT IT'S HIGHEST POINT.

THE HIGHEST POINT OF A KICK IS HALF WAY THROUGH THE FLIGHT OF THE BALL, WHEN IT STARTS TO DESCEND.

OFTEN 10 - 15 METRES OFF THE GROUND. HE DOES NOT TAKE THE BALL AT THIS POINT.

HE MERELY TIMES HIS LEAPS WELL, AS ALMOST EVERY PLAYER DOES WHEN THEY'RE UNIMPEDED.

Serenity now
