Not sure why there is even any discussion about his position

He is a midfielder and should be played and developed as a midfielder
Cripps , Bont , Fyfe , Green that is what he should be developed as and has all the physical attributes that all the others have.

You dont buy a Ferrari to go 4 wheel driving
Early days yet...MM is right...there is no rush...we can trial the youngster in a few positions to get a clearer understanding
where he can star...if nothing comes of it, we still have the mid-field vacancy...

NO

He must be a star from round 1 and nothing less is acceptable

Lol at all the shit going on here.
In a ideal world we need all of our genuine mids on the field weather that is inas we did with Bolton a mid who spent a lot of time fwd or dusty fwd mid.

Cmon when fit we need to fit all of Taranto, McAuliffe, Hopper, Prestia, Lalor Hotton Smillie and Ross into the team.
We are not going to be able to start em all as mids.
So how do we get them all onto the field at the same time.
Please anyone come tell all.

It is pretty simple and bloody obvious how we achieve this its called rotations and playing those who can in dual roles.
FFS we know Lalor is a mid along with Hotton and Smillie but there is others we want in the team so how do we achieve getting games into all of them at the same time.
It is not rocket science you just have to think outside the square just a wee bit.

Have a think. Its about games into kids and AFL experience. We have picks 1,7, and 12, we need them playing at the level weather thats in their primary positions or in other roles in the short term it does not matter one little bit.

What makes Smillie a possible generational player is not the fact he is an obvious mid but what he also shows heaps in other areas.
If playing Smillie in the short term at hb means we give McAuliife a good crack at midfield role who really gives a shit? We need to find a way to look at ALL of our promising mids in whatever roles enables us to do this.

S o Trainer does not start the year what the hell drugs are you people on Smillie as a junior played defense and he did it well if Smillie as a hb maeans us looking at other kids im all for it.

1. I'm not a mod

2. You can ignore me if you like, just means when I start threads you won't see them. So given I've started all the draftee threads and other associated threads, the board is going to look quite strange for you.

3. My posting about the kids is very much tongue in cheek, given how some posters get quite excited about them.
After the year we've just had, Arguably the greatest ever tiger retiring, 3 of our best players leaving, I think everyone has a right to get excited about the new talent we've brought in.

Wears number 16 like another 6’4, mop-headed midfielder who used to rip us apart. Hope he becomes that sort of player
Think Cripps wore 16 to start as well and then 9. Smillie has said he wants 9.
