Thought he played two decent games this year and the rest were pretty typical ordinary Rioli games.
He used the ball a bit better at times but his skills his inability to get his hands on the ball and the lack of goals remain a real problem.
Think giving him two years is a mistake given what we have had from him overall.
To survive i think he needs to find another role.

I say this based on the sum total of his work.
Turns 23 jan in his 5th year has 36 games under his belt a small who really should be clicking by now there will be no excuses next year.

Firmly believe if he did not have the Rioli name he would be delisted by now.

He was absolutely enormous in the last quarter of his last VFL game this season. Was involved in everything and was pretty much the reason we made the wildcard round. Hopefully he can go on with it next season. By all reports he's avoided fat club for the first pre season ever so that's a good sign.

edit. Found a write up -

Maurice Rioli (17 disposals, eight tackles, seven inside-50s) may not have had huge numbers, but he was the difference when Richmond needed a hero. Rioli camee back on after having an ankle injury restrapped in the last quarter to have eight match-winning touches in the final 15 minutes, which included setting up Davidson’s match sealer and another shot the young goalkicker missed and laying a handful of brutal tackles.

A bit of this you reckon? If putting 17 on his back means he'll contribute more than 1 eye catching tackle a game (usually against a tired direct opponent, who's had 30+, numerous bounces & been carving us up all day and then had to stop & prop to get the pill vs MRJ already running full pelt at them) start kicking over 30m, finding the pill more and kicking goals...... ya might be onto something???? Maybe we can lobby the AFL to have the ENTIRE team wear no. 17 and their Dads old jockstraps while we're at it?

Needs to play midfield, if that means he spends the 1st half of next season in the ressie's getting his fitness to a level where he can play mids then so be it. He is not a small forward & don't think his value is there. When he has spent time in the mid's during reserve games he stands out & is always involved with pressure or quick disposals & keeps the opposition on their toes.

I must be watching something different. Thought Jr showed huge improvement in 2024 before his ankle injury. His game against the Swans in particular. Got back to kicking a goal a game unlike his flop of a season in 23 and his pressure and tackling was back to his best.

So stoked to see him get the 17, must be a very proud moment for him. He is absolutely in our best side and fits in our forward line like a glove with the talls he now has around him. Will only get better.

Spot on 100% agree 👍

Wtf is this shit?

Last year was his 4th season on the list. He displayed excellent form before injury wiped out most of his season. Almost all drafted players are now given 4 years or more by the club to establish themselves, not just the ones named Rioli.

Ludicrous belief from an even more ludicrous poster.

Turned 22 on September 1 2024, I’m pretty sure…
