You are a genuine BigBash peanut.

It's a good pitch.

They've knocked over an opener, had 2 edges that didn't carry and almost got Pujara at a leg gully.

They've kept it extremely tight at 2.0rpo.

What more do you want, 5 or 6 wickets before the break to pass your criteria of not wasting the new ball?
We actually want the game to go for at least 4 days, we don't want 5 wickets falling in the first session.

I think we have a great game of Test cricket happening in front of us

Pattinson? I still think Starc adds something different to the bowling attack

Yeah, it’s interesting looking at the dynamic of the attack, Cummins is possibly the best bowler yet gets relegated to 3rd spot because Starc cannot bowl anywhere but first and Hazlewood cannot bowl anywhere but second. Cummins is a much better bowler opening than either of them, but his bowling at first change is also better than either of them.

Starcs average outside day night tests isn’t great and often the variety he offers is just more wide crap that the batsmen can feast on.

Interesting to see Patto has never played a day night test.

But Australia has got so fixated on Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins it’s only injury or a gruelling schedule that gives anyone else a chance.

That seems fairly standard when you think what batsman 1-7 average in general?
It's not a particularly useful stat unless it's contrasted with a) the other australians (Hazelwood, Cummins, Pattinson) and b) other bowlers (Rabada, Steyn, Philander, Anderson, Broad, Wagner, Southee, Sharma, Bumrah). Isolated, we don't really know if it's good/poor.

It does indicate that he gets a lot of tailenders out and that he loves the pink ball, which is how they used it.

I think since Johnson's resurgence the selectors like having a left armer in the side. The footmarks would help with Lyon as well

Exactly - when a match is over in less than 3 days it means lots of wickets but doesn't necessarily make it an exciting match to watch. If folks want fast paced cricket go watch T20 or an ODI

Matches that go for 4/5 days and where it's a real tussle between the 2 teams and contest between bat & ball, can make for more exciting matches

Across all batsmen, he averages 28.5 with the red ball, 19 with the pink ball.

Haze 26 and 22

Cummins 22 and 18

Patto 26 with red, never bowled with pink

This is the key. When you have the 3rd innings starting late day 3 and both sides have made 400-500+ it isn't very exciting

I think we are more acustomed to seeing bigger scores and more runs being made, that when we have a collapse or a quality bowling innings, it is more exciting
