Anyone else concerned that Hopper doesn't live up to the hype ?

I haven't seen anything to suggest that he isn't the bog average mid he was at GWS outside of his AA year. Doesn't get it enough and is prone to make errors. Hopefully there is improvement in him but just at present it is a concern for me.
You can't pass judgment until you've seen him play. I hope Dimma picks him this week.

played a truckload of games with gws, so there's a record of performance. look at the respective playing records of taranto and hopper and you'll understand why g.w.s was much keener to keep taranto than hopper. he's a plus but not a gun.
I watched him at GWS closely and in my eyes he was better skilled than Taranto. His last couple of seasons have been injury plagued and thus it is difficult to see where his ceiling is and thus difficult to see whether he is worth next year's first rounder. I don't think that is unreasonable.

For me I had Taranto as the better all rounder but Hopper was the better inside mid but not as versatile

He will built on round by round no doubt we have been crying out for the inside bull for years and we seen glimpses against the blues super important player.

Hopper is not Jason Horne Francis but a bit more quality makes a difference.

There are not 24 Jason Horne Francis's and only one Dusty.

Even with Port Adelaide a better supporting cast makes a difference when the likes of JHF get put in.

I did like Bolton when he was wide on the wing, when he is in space he has the opportunity to rake havoc

I think our mix is still sorting itself out, bit of refining there to

Bewt post Magic, great read.

You have managed to name the person the thread is about in the very first word then make the whole rest of the post about Jason Horne-Francis, while dropping Dusty's name in there along with 24 Jason Horne-Francises, and something about Bolton.

And I love love love the use of the mysterious closing line with no full stop and slightly unclear meaning.

Back to Hopper though, where do you stand on him? Weren't you previously vehemently against us trading for him?

I was keener on Taranto than Hooper if some recall. Like I have said Hopper is not a dud. I obviously like him to do well at RFC.

Where I am coming from us finishing in finals and getting late picks generally is not going to cut it unless you pick the eyeballs out of the draft which is very hard to do. Even Geelong has required Gold Coast working for them in recent years with trades.

This is where I am coming from with Jason Horne Francis. we can't get a Jason Horne Francis, not yet anyway but if we pick up the supporting cast in the meantime it is important to. If we win a premiership along the way beaut.

I mean ideally every club should be chasing Jason Horne Francis second year players like Collingwood getting Buckley from the Lions. But the reality is most cannot do that and its a rare opportunity in the first place, once maybe every twenty years for any club

For us, Himmelberg is interesting and even Fyfe getting a bit lost at Freo is interesting I think Himmelberg losing weight looks a lot more agile. Very interesting

I didn't enjoy this post quite as much Magic. It was far too easy to understand. :)

Well if people remember I was not against getting De Goey. He looks like he might be maturing and could get his act together full on this year.

Having said that. If we get Hopper, Taranto and Himmelberg. I will be happy. Even if we get Himmelberg and JR stays another year or two I will be happy. I just think Himmelberg gives us oppositions back and forward and helps figure out where to put Gibcus to. The fact Himmelberg is lighter makes him more versatile and I think he would definitely add to our list few others could at the moment. How could fit him in salary cap wise is another matter?
I think we need to evolve our game a little to match up with the best like the Melbournes and a guy like Himmelberg could help with that and our ability to match up and counter other teams at the pointy end. He would help us play in different ways and also help Balta kick his 100 goals a season from defence. People need to understand RFC's dna is all about Balta kicking 100 goals a season playing CHB, that is crystal clear and our players moving in formations to allow Balta to kick 100 50metre plus goals a season.

Balta kicking 100 goals from CHB is important to allow Tom Lynch to kick 100 goals forward because everybody is worrying about Balta

2 points about your post

1. Re : De Goey
Where does he fit in our team ?
We already have Dusty & Shai and now Taranto playing in that role and He is way too much trouble to have on the list

2. I have been on the Himmelberg train for the last 6-7 months atleast
so your preaching to the priest there

You think Lynch and Balta can each kick 100 goals in a season?
