+1 to posters who are torn on this. He obviously had the talent, just never seemed to get it together for long periods of time.

Don't understand why we have to pay out the contract though, if it was a career ending injury and can't play anymore, I could understand that 100%. But he chose to retire.
Could theoretically have played 2025 in the VFL and collected every dollar he was entitled to.

I feel sorry for him, tbh.

38 games into his AFL career, he's won a Rising Star, played in a grand final, leading his club's goal kicking,. He's just played in front of 75,000 on the Queen's Birthday and his team is second on the ladder.

You then get done for betting on yourself and miss the rest of the H & A season, the next season is screwed around by lockdowns and COVID, and at the end of that you get traded out to NMFC, whose coach has just had a nervous breakdown, and inexplicably, it actually goes downhill from there.

Sure, he's been his own worst enemy at times, but he's still very young and I hope he gets a chance to live life to the fullest instead of being cast as a failed ex-footballer.

Go well, young man.

Obviously talented and he showed plenty of glimpses of it. Just never had the work ethic or drive to take himself to the next level.

The betting scandal, hip injury and covid times probably didn’t help, but it was pretty obvious early on that he was pretty fickle when it comes to his intensity, so imo he had no one to blame but himself.

Hope he can find happiness in whatever he does next.

On a side note, whoever’s idea it was for Stevo to be a mentor to Duursma last year needs to be fired on the spot. Mind numbingly stupid.

Will not be surprised to see him picked up and thrive somewhere else.

He was always the icing, and we have sucked for his entire tenure.

Give him a defined role with good players and he will be back in the game.

I’ll eat a hat if he ever “thrives” at any club for more than a 4-6 week period . His biggest flaws have never been addressed or improved (distinct lack of hunger/attack for ball & player, distinct lack of repeat effort, dumb mistakes) and the sole reason he gets any support as a player is because he’s quick. Never mind he is skinny as a rake by AFL standards…

I hope his life post North goes well, nothing against that, just as a player he was & is rubbish and never will be AFL quality and there’s a reason he’s failed to keep a spot in our best 22 despite being record shitness for 5 years. It’s not “Norths fault” - he should be playing every week if he was even half decent

This is just revisionism. They had to get rid of wanted players due to f***ing up their salary cap. Many of them were more happy to see Treloar go than Stevo.

“many” as in their fans? Considering a huge majority of our fans were still thinking he’d be a good player as long as he got a chance on the back flank/wing/forward line, I don’t trust the “many” fans opinion

its an excuse factory in here. One after the other like a production line. Mental health, Clubs fault for being shit, too hard etc. have a spell. He’s the anti lazarro. If he put half the effort Charlie put in, he’d be a superstar.

Yep, but he's also a poster boy for the reality that just being good at footy doesn't mean it has dominate your life.

I went for a walk down to Arden Street yesterday, and there's Colby and Hardeman and a few other doing hard yards of pre-pre season running work.

That's the standard now and imo Jaidyn is smart enough to realise he's not going to buy into it, so best he go.

And hopefully he finds his passion (or already has found it, don’t know). Just like plenty before him, footy is a job and you’re allowed a career change.

It is disheartening that we continue to have so many own goals.
