Rumour 2 Melbourne Clubs in Dire Straits

Last year north played around 10 games at marvel, 4 at Blundstone arena and another 2-3 at the mcg, that’s 16-17 games at a home or neutral venue....

In what world is the MCG a home or neutral venue for us?

Interesting you say that.
In the last 3 H&A seasons you've gotten 45 games between Docklands and Bellerive.
Richmond have gotten 38 at the MCG.
For reference, SA and WA clubs get 36 games at their respective home grounds. If there's a 'vic bias' it seems to be towards clubs like North more than Richmond.
It's been 7 years since you played Richmond at the MCG in a H&A game.

How many have you played at Marvel?

That's your home ground too.

I went and saw you play West Coast there.

Good regarding two clubs in the edge. A few less Victorian clubs the better.
That would be great.

Then we could plunder more 2nd string comps to prop us up!

The win just keeps winning!

I don't understand how you can be a footy fan, and also be hoping for clubs to go under. The two seem incompatible.
I get no one wants to lose their club. It would be shitty to lose a club you've grown up following since childhood. If Port ceased to exist, I wouldn't bother with football.

However the current comp consisting of 56% Victorian teams does not help with the current Vic bias. As a footy fan I don't know how you could support such a system that favours certain teams.

And yet you included Tasmania in Norths ''home games''
So those would be considered an away game for north, you are surely kidding?
The North Melbourne football club have decided to play some of their home games in Tasmania for obvious reasons.
If this is considered an “away game” then I guess every time mcg tenants play teams at marvel would be the same......which it clearly isn’t.
If the argument is once again lack of travel for some vic clubs, seriously come up with a viable option of where vic clubs play fellow vic clubs in order to satisfy this.
The only way this can be evened up would be to have more interstate teams in the competition, which may happen in the future. But who knows what will happen with the current climate

Easy, ship some of the Vic teams to other states like with Sydney and Brisbane and merge others.

That’s also easy to say shop a team off when it’s not your team, I’ve had mates who were Fitzroy supporters who still haven’t gotten over the move to Brisbane. I don’t think that’s an easy solution, I think it’s lazy.

I think maybe in the future they’ll add a tassie side and possibly a 20th team somewhere else, but that time may be a while off with the league battling right now.

The afl IMO made a mistake my not giving the grand final to the top ranked side, but they’ve made that decision and there’s not much any of us can do about it.
The interstate teams enjoy a home ground advantage that no Vic team ever gets so it does even out a fair bit

Personally would prefer going back to a vfl, sanfl, wafl with relegation/promotion within those, and then SOO is the true australian football league.
Won't happen and we have this weird state league grown into a national league where interstate "franchises" are added.

Marketing gone mad.

I was born in Sydney, grew up in Canberra, and now live in Melbourne. Retaining teams from yesteryear is important in my book.

Chunky09 has stated it perfectly: there is some bias and they try to offset that. Its not perfect, but dropping VIC teams is not the answer.

Please don't expect Sydney and Brisbane fans to join as proponents of dissolving Vic clubs. We've been through it first-hand and it sucks. I don't wish someone losing their team on anyone.

And it's not as simple as 2 teams coming together to embrace a "joint history", we're still ironing out issues 25 years later. To be fair, the club recently has been doing a good job trying to keep all entities happy and embracing the past but things that were promised (lion logo, amount of games in Melbourne etc) whittle down over time. Why would anyone agree to a merger when they have seen first-hand promises may not be kept?

If there was an easy solution it probably would have been done by now - we certainly don't want to go down the soulless path of U.S team relocation. It's not always about the money.

Another post from a supporter of a team that joined a Victorian-based league, complaining that most of the league is based in Victoria.

I shake my head every time. You sound like one of those people that buys a house next to the airport and complains about the noise.

Don't like it? Is the SAFNL still running? Maybe the crows can join that.

Always very sceptical of this.

Heard from many Melbourne members that they believe the vote was rigged and many Melbourne members were denied the right to vote "no" to merging with Hawthorn.

I was far too young to be there at the time but have been told from more than one person that they locked out a significant amount of members and a select few were trying to push through a result the majority didn't want.
