He actually said the same thing on footy classified. Wasn’t sure if he’d signed yet. Or was that one of his political talk smokescreens to deflect attention away from the reasons behind not officially signing, after the club said it was imminent 6 months ago?

It's only the insignificant matter of whether or not you earn a few million over 3 years.

Easily and understandably forgotten.

It’s very odd.

I really hope it’s just hocking holding off to see how the team performs this year, and to see if scott can deliver on what they promised, in terms of getting younger players to the 20 to 50 game mark like hock recently mentioned.

How the hell do you 'forget' that detail when the negotiations have dragged on so long........unless he hasn't signed off as yet, and doesn't want to be caught in a lie if he says he has.

I cant remember exactly... There was some sort of comment on the KRock podcast..about someone not being happy that they had locked him in before Hocking had come into the club... maybe he was not locked in...

If this year gos marshmallow in a fire ..then maybe a full on reset is required and not something he wants to be a part of.... he has said he doesnt want to be a middling club... etc.

I remember something along those lines too.

Something strange seems to be going on behind the scenes.

If this board is anything to go by just before each finals series begins, Geelong are a shoe in to go all the way. So yeh' a lot of people lose money on us every year.

2016 is probably the last time any of us went in with genuine confidence. 2017 if you want to stretch it but that was mainly because we beat Richmond with a depleted side 3 weeks prior to the QF.

Ever since it's been cross your fingers and hope for the best but expect the worse.

For me personally any excitement around us hasn't been about how good we are, it's more been about how mediocre the state of the competition has been since the Hawks dynasty and how we could maybe steal a flag with a bit of luck.

2017 was overflowing with confidence. Go back and have a read of this board. Richmond didn't even deserve to be on the field with us it was going to be that easy.

Except that we played there exactly 12 months earlier in a Qualifying Final against another MCG tenant in Hawthorn. In another home game that wasn't at home. Except of course we won, so it was never ever ever raised as an issue. That makes the whining about 2017 so annoying and pathetic (not directed at you).

Honest opinion - a lot of Geelong fans couldn't handle (and still can't) that a side they'd beaten in recent history dared to improve and hand some back. That to me was and is behind all of it. Like Geelong supporters hadn't dished out truckloads to Richmond over the years, but it's handed back once and that's outrageous? Please.

I think you’re exactly right with the abnormal dislike for Richmond beating us/winning premierships.

Yes, we enjoyed them being a rabble and our bunnies. It’s like when a bullied kid hits back. Even the players and coaches appeared to be shocked. How often did Scott say “oh they aren’t as good as Hawthorn”. The aim was to diminish their victory. “Oh we let you win, we weren’t trying. Next time… etc”. We were definitely not the good guys in that exchange.

And yes, we could win at the MCG - I felt that the sound of crowd and inevitability and the righteousness of Richmond winning and having their moment scared us.

Did anyone else cringe a little at CS's post game comments, repeating his mantra that we're a club that can look players in the eye and say we'll give you a chance of winning the flag, and the signs are that it will be the same this year? First of all, it's Rd 1.. it's getting ahead of ourselves big time if we think we're a decent chance of a flag after 1 game against an opposition which were far from their best. Secondly, there's growing evidence that we haven't been a genuine flag threat despite finishing top 4 many years. Thirdly, and most importantly, it's the players themselves that give the club a chance of a flag, not the other way around. The whole mentality implies that the players are to some extent "along for the ride".

I can promise we won’t be a flag favourite if we continue to go missing For 10 minutes like we did yesterday.

I've stopped listening to his press conferences long ago. Apart from the comedy value.

Way too early to tell. Very good win, Essendon were pitiful but you can only play who's in front of you.

Long long way to go just yet.

It’s taking how many years to figure out that shit, slow defensive game doesn’t hold up. How many years will it take to figure out we are usually cooked by round 18 playing so many old players, and we need to be much more hardcore resting them so we don’t go into finals spluttering?

No matter the circumstances we need to manage players every week. Gives young players more opportunity too.

Missed all of this skulduggery- thought he spoke very well- calm, sensible, pleasant. Didn’t do a bevo- win-win!
