Yeah well its the only game that counts, we know the highs (2007) and lows (2008). I know we went down by 6 points against the saint in round 17 but we had many injuries, this time we virtually have a full side and playing much better.. This is one game i'm looking forward too.....

I am actually more confident going into next weeks match than i was tonight, having said that im not confident about this week tho.
We gave the saints a 5 goal start, and with form going into the grand final with rested players and ottens and steve johnson playing this time we should go in favourites.

I think we should go into this game unchanged. Some may argue Stokes in for Byrnes but I think Byrnes has done enough this season to keep his spot.

I can't wait for this match guys, I love GF week no matter if Adelaide aren't in it! Go Catters though, easily my favourite team outside of Adelaide and I just hope for your sake you win and cement your spot as one of the greatest sides of the modern era.

I was wondering if the six day break if we won tonight would count against us but I think the Saints looked exhausted after their nail-biting win and we cruised. Could not have asked for a better result all round this weekend.

It is going to be a tough game. I think the Saints are an awesome outit. If the round 14 game is anything to go by it may just be the best Grand Final of all time. I am not getting cocky even after our good win tonight. This final is going to be no cake walk like 2007. Let's face it the prospect of losing is just too scarey to think about.
The lads have the job ahead of them. Lots of distractions this week. Man the nerves are beginning already.

Bomber sounded like in his PC that Stokes would come in if fit though, jee someone will be stiff to miss out I reckon! Byrnes has been solid all year for your mob, can't see him missing out. Better than previous years though when Geelong has always had questions over key player's fitness etc, seemed to have primed at the right time of year Geelong.

I actually think, on form, that if someone has to make way for Stokes (which they shouldnt) it would be Varcoe. Even though Byrnes has no right foot, he's shown a greater propensity to kick goals. Both are two of the poorer decision makers in the team. You would only pick Varcoe because of his pace and defensive pressure, which are overrated

it'd be hard to make any changes after tonight to see stokes come in...
the ones who would normally would have a question mark (byrnes, wojak & varcoe) all contributed tonight, played their role and didn't do anything that i could see them come out for. with that being said i'm sure the selection panel will look at the matchups and decide from there. Wojak has got to stay, his run will break the saints forward line of defence but the same could be said for byrnes. and varcoes offensive pressure was good enough tonight and is something we'll need next week.

I just wasn't impressed with Varcoe tonight. But I am sure he will line up as Thompson loves him. Most of the good stuff Varcoe did was when the match was won. When the match was in dispute he was very quiet. Against the Saints the whole match will be in dispute.

The one thing i hope for (other than winning nxt week) is that we keep Nick Riewoldt quiet and upfield. The game against the Dogs showed that they relied to heavily on Riewoldt to kick their goals and it could be their downfall. Also they need to hold onto Zac Dawson as he is great at crumbling under pressure.

playing C'wood in a prelim was supposed to be the hardest gig in footy.

but varcoe does have a better defensive game than stokes so all i can say is bad luck to stokes as it's appear the side will go in unchanged.
how about the saints - you all reckon there would be some changes to the side?
in a way they do a weak line in defence

2) Max h has not play in a tense game for a long time so there is a BIG risk bringing him in.

No changes for me. Can't believe Byrnes did something, not in junk time too. Doubt he can do it twice in a row but I hope so.
Ling to Hayes and Rooke to Fisher or Goddard. He could expose Goddard's lack of defensive skills a bit probably.

bomber loves stokesy as well though...
as i mentioned before i think the selction panel will analyse the matchups and make their decision from there. as i see it:
stokes; good playmaker, sets up a few goals goals, good for 2-3 himself (at most)- can lay tackles, rotate into midfield if required (not encouraged) and essentially he's a good small forward - not much chase & pressure. who would line up against him and how would he go against them?
varcoe; finds space, good for a couple of goals, goes missing when the pressure is on, great run & chase (CF: i know you don't think he did tonight but that is his role) can rotate into midfield as required and has a bit effectiveness to stokes. who would go to varcoe and how would he go against them?
did bomber maybe rest stokes tonight to have him prime for the GF?

Both sides will be unchanged. Dawson was actually half decent Friday night. If they havent dropped him yet they wont start now. Its not as if we have a dominant power forward that specifically needs the attention of Hudghton.
