1 Geelong
2 Hawthorn
3 Collingwood
4 Bulldogs
5 North Melbourne

8 Richmond
---------------------------
9 Carlton
10 Port Adelaide
11 St Kilda
12 West Coast
13 Brisbane
14 Fremantle
15 Essendon
16 Melbourne

Geelong and Hawthorn the only certainties to make top half.
Even Melbourne are no certainties to stay out, but highly likely to miss. Its also hard to see either Essendon or Freo there, but anyone else could realistically make the eight.

1. Geelong (Should dominate the H & A season again, Finals are another matter)
2. Collingwood (Ready to take the next step)
3. Hawthorn (Injuries will impair their start to the season but will force their way up late)
3. Brisbane (Had the talent to play finals last year but faded out badly. Won’t happen again)
5. Carlton (Will be the big improvers)
6. Bulldogs (Will drop slightly as they tend to do after a good season)
7. North Melbourne (Will fight their way into the eight with no frills as per usual)
8. Adelaide (With Neil Craig they will again somehow find a way to make the eight)

9. Port Adelaide (Fell away badly last year. Will improve their position)
10. St Kilda (Will be stagnant mid table most of the year. Not good enough for much else)
11. Essendon (Young team that will begin to find it’s way)
12. Richmond (To again miss the eight, will fall flat on it’s face)
13. West Coast (In a complete re-development stage)
14. Sydney (On the decline. Older list will struggle)
15. Melbourne (Will win a couple more games but way off the mark)
16 Fremantle (the AFL’S Perennial basket case)

Collingwood have arrived and will be very strong, with the Cats and Hawks around the mark again. W.C.E and Port to rise significantly, while Sydney and St. Kilda will still be around for another year or two.

Essendon will surprise a few, the Roos and Freo are shot, and Richmond will be the disapointment of the season.

Geelong
Hawthorn
Collingwood
Port Adelaide
Western Bulldogs
St.Kilda
Carlton
Brisbane
--------------
Adelaide
Richmond
North Melbourne
Sydney
Essendon
Fremantle
West Coast
Melbourne

Geelong -Too much strength cant see them losing too many games
Hawthorn - Should stay up there will slip if they have injuries to some key players
North Melbourne -Always underrated and should make the 4
Collingwood - As much as this kills me they should make the 4 and the prelims
St Kilda - A good list but this year is their final chance
Western Bulldogs - Too inconsistent to make the 4
Brisbane - Average list that always performs
Carlton - Not much depth but should make the eight
Richmond -Terry Wallace will be sacked and club will change name to 'Ninthmond'
Essendon - Good young guys that need 1 more year until they are a serous contender for the finals
Port Adelaide - Not too sure about Port
Adelaide - Door is closed and for a long time
Sydney - See Adelaide
Fremantle -I dont rate freo at all
Melbourne - Can win games if they play well infact i reckon they will smash the dons
West Coast - Drugs and total loss of midfield combined with injuries just dont seem to agree with the coasters

Geelong - preseason has been irresistable, couple their complete game with a burning desire to make up for last year, will be near unbeatable at full strength
Carlton - Look good enough to not only take the next step but be one of the powerhouse teams of the comp this year.
Collingwood - After years of being round about look ready to make their mark on the top 4. Just need to add some much needed consistencey
Port Adealide - Definately bias but well deserverd too imo. My pick to be the big mover this year and with enough young guns coming thru coupled with experienced champions has the makings of a very good side.
Hawthorn - Hard to tell if they will have any sort of hangover, will have a bullseye on their back and are still the youngest team in the comp. Im expecting a slip, but not a big one.
Richmond - If they stay fit they can probably do just about anything. The key will be keeping cousins, brown and richardson out on the ground.
Brisbane - With a gun forward line, an injection of Rich into the guts the Lions should see September action for the 1st time since 04.
St Kilda - toss up between the Saints and the Dogs, were lucky to fall into the top 4 last year. Will need much bigger imput from the likes of Dal Santo and Kosi if they are gonna get anywhere near where they did last year. Will miss Harvey big time i reckon

Western Bulldogs - Question marks had me leaving them out of the 8. Can Cooney improve on last year, how will their defence hold up against the power forwards. How does their attack of Johnson, Murphey and Welsh hold up this year? Could prove me wrong.
Adelaide - Need to find the next Goodwin, Mcleod and Edwards. Look for big years from Hentschell, Walker and Van Berlo. Will just need to discover some consistency amongst their youth.
Essendon - Fast and fun to watch and on their day can probably take it up to anyone. Would love to see Gumbleton and Hurley have big years, Hille could be on the cusp of becoming the comps elite ruckman.
North Melbourne - I do it every year and every year they prove me wrong. Love the addition of Ziebell to their already classy midfield. Will be hoping that McIntosh has a much improved year and that Hale can answer some forward line woes.
Melbourne - Will hopefully be more competative than last season, looking forward to seeing Jack Watts introduced to the system.
Fremantle - Just about a brand new team that will at times look a million bucks, im expecting them to look more like a buck fifty most of the time tho. Enough genuine guns in the side tho to help the young guys come on quick.
Sydney - This years big drop, i can see once they fall behind the eightball Hall will lose interest, Micky O will finally sucumb to injury and too much will be left to too few. Though if Goodes has any sort of year, he must be a cert for the brownlow based on last years effort.
West Coast - Like Freo will show glimpes of what they can do, i just expect the bigger more experienced bodies in the midfield to make it very tough for the eagles this year.

Geelong -Appear to still have the desire to right the wrong of 2008
Hawthorn - Will start slowly but be coming good by years end. Much will depend on whether Croad can make a successful return
Collingwood - Should be improved from last year. Will be even better 2 years time
Port Adelaide - Will return to the top 4. A fit Cornes and an extra years development for the youngsters will make for an improved 2009
Kangaroos - Will remain in their holding pattern of being competitive but not elite
Carlton- If their back 6 can remain fairly strong will be finalists
Western Bulldogs - Still tall forward concerns but have enough quality over the ground to be super competitive
Richmond - The time has come for them to return to finals action.

Sydney - Just have them just missing finals action. The old guard will keep them competitive
Adelaide -Could play finals if they are able to find a way to kick bigger scores. Great defensive unit.
Brisbane - Hard to assess. Any team with Brown and Bradshaw up forward will create headaches. Have doubts over their second stringers.
St Kilda - Just can't see where the improvement will come from. Will be one to fall in my opinion.
Essendon - Lack quality in the midfield. There young crop of talls will be great but tire as the year goes on
Melbourne - I reckon they will go ok. Will win a few games early then peter out.
Fremantle - Will struggle
West Coast - Not a good year for WA.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Geelong - Will again win alot of games during the season.
Hawthorn - Wont be far behind
St.Kilda - Top 4 last year and again this year.
Western Bulldogs - As above.
Richmond - Finally makes the eight.
Carlton - They are coming.... slowly up the ladder.
Port Adelaide - Big improvers of the year.
Kangaroos - Scrapes in.

Collingwood - See below.
Adelaide - Just misses out.
Brisbane - Wont win enough games.
Essendon - Almost there but a little young and should def. make finals in 2010.
Fremantle - A couple more wins at home will help but wont be going anywhere.
West Coast - Like freo a couple more wins at home but should still struggle.
Sydney - Need a cleanout....
Melbourne - Will try hard but just a bit to young but expect improvements in 2010.

Geelong - Dominate again
WBD - Will keep improving... big chance this year
Port - 08 was an abberation... a return to their best

Hawks - Teams to "figure them out"
Pies - Thereabouts again
Carlton - Fit Judd and good supporting midfielders as well as firing Fev
Brisbane - wont fall away like last year
-----------------------
NM - Underrated again, will be right in the fight for the 8
