Geelong -- good side, point to prove
Adelaide -- strong depth
Richmond -- planets are aligning
Collingwood -- everything points to strong year
Port Adelaide -- bounce back from disappointing 2008
Hawthorn -- hangover definite
St Kilda -- thereabouts
Kangaroos -- mid-table side
---------
Western Bulldogs -- overperformed last year
Brisbane -- may take time to adjust to Voss
Fremantle -- preseason injuries may take toll
Carlton -- the hype is big
West Coast -- could improve, probably not
Essendon -- will show good signs
Melbourne -- expect some wins
Sydney -- old, tired, injured. Tough year coming up

Here's Mine
Geelong- To good, still the best side in the comp and will be hungary for another flag
Hawthorn- Injuries and no pre-seasons to stars are gonna hurt them as well as many players with a lot of points against there names
Western Buldogs- Still 3rd best side in the league and will be right up there with other two
St Kilda- With players coming back from injury and having good pre-seasons expect saints to be up there again, still great playing list
Collingwood- Looking good so far, still think they are very inconsistent but it could be differnt this year. Very even spread across the ground
Port Adelaide- Still a great side that played in the grand final 07. Last year injuries hurt them but expect them to be right up there this year
Carlton- Going to improve a lot, but still have holes that the better teams above are going to expose
Brisbane- Great playing list and i think Voss will scrape his young Lions in the finals. Just!

North Melbourne- Shinbones, always will give you a contest but side has got worse over the years and i dont think they can do it this year
Richmond- Could go either way but what i have seen in the pre-season is the same old richmond, some great players and young guns but play very ordinary footy a lot of the time. Bye Bye Wallace
Sydney- Knowing Sydney they'll finish top 4 as they always prove everyone wrong, but is this the year the actually do slide. Im putting my neck out in this one. Sorry Sydney Supporters
Adelaide- Great backline good midfield will be very competitive but doubt they'll be able to kick a winning score
Essedon- Have a good playing list but i cant see them top 8 for another year or two
Fremantle- Good young players and will be a lot better this year and hard to beat at home. But it's Freo they always find a way to stuff it up
West Coast- Starting to build a list of young guns but think another year at the bottom before they rise
Melbourne- Love Melbourne but they are well and truely developing and lack the cattle to get off the bottom

*This isn't based on how I rate teams at all, I just had a quick look at the draw and made this. Port, Freo, Bombers, Lions could go either way. I put Port up so high because I am biased, arrogant and see more of them than any other team, and when I see them, they look good (+ awesome fixture). Crows, Saints and couple others have a crap fixture. Geelong are the best, Hawthorn will start a little slow and I rate Bulldogs and Carlton highly. (probably because "they're coming") and I don't want to see Tiges finish ninth. Apologies to Eagles, Swans and Dees, I hope you improve and my ladder is wrong. *Which it will be.

1. Geelong
2. Western Bulldogs
3. Hawthorn
4. Carlton
5. North Melbourne

Back in August compared to now:

Geelong Geelong
Hawthorn Hawthorn

North Lions
Tigers Tigers
Crows Crows
Lions Swans
Swans North
Bombers Port
Dockers Essendon

After Round 22:

1. Collingwood
2. Geelong
3. Hawthorn
4. Port Adelaide
5. Western Bulldogs
6. Carlton
7. St.Kilda
8. Richmond

9. Adelaide
10. Fremantle
11. Sydney
12. Brisbane
13. North Melbourne
14. Essendon
15. West Coast
16. Melbourne

  • Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn to battle for order in the top-three.
  • Port Adelaide to improve to battle with the Western Bulldogs for fourth spot.
  • Carlton, St.Kilda, Richmond and Adelaide to battle for 6th-8th spot, with little between the teams. Any one of those four teams could be the one to miss the finals.
  • Fremantle to improve to enter the race for 8th if they can get off to a winning start by beating the Western Bulldogs at home in Round 1.
  • Sydney to remain competitive, even though they may finish as low as 10th-12th. They could beat St.Kilda on the weekend. Brisbane in 12th spot may finish as high as 8th, but I currently have them slightly behind.
  • North Melbourne to slip following their insipid performances against Port Adelaide in Round 22 and Sydney in last years finals.
  • Essendon and West Coast are in for long seasons, but are both better than Melbourne.
  • Premiers: Collingwood: In 2008, Collingwood were the youngest team to win a final since Brisbane in 2000. The Lions went on to win the next three premierships. Brisbane also lost the practice match cup Grand Final in 2001 by 85 points, Collingwood lost this season by 76 points. Collingwood finished 6th last season, which is the same as Hawthorn in 2007. Hawthorn went on to win the next premiership. Collingwood can win the premiership in 2009 if they can more consistently reproduce the best performance of any team in 2008, which was the 86 points win over Geelong in Round 9.
