sadly dont think any of the port boys will get a run this year! kane cornes would perhaps be our best contender and tredrea would have been close about 4 weeks ago but hasnt done much since
There have been a few in contention over the season though. I had Carlile in my team for the first 3ish rounds. Salopek and Chaplin were in my squad for ages. Boak was close for a few rounds. Tredrea was in my side 4 weeks ago but as you said he has faded. He is probably your best chance though.

Maybe overrating Cox and underrating Sandilands. I think Cox has been harshly judged this season. With Cox missing next week though, Sandilands will probably be number one.

He's been number one all year.
Smashed both Jolly and Cox, and has been a dominating force.

Just the thought of this poor bastard actually having a midfield that doesn't geive the ball back all the time...

IMO, he is harshly judged due to the crabs around him

Easily, he's been awesome this year.
If he played for Geelong he'd be in everyone's team.
Nah. It's the way he plays, not who he plays for. He is the best plodder in the competition. If he keeps performing like he has and the others fall away then he is a chance. Goodes and Selwood would be next to go out and Boyd and Swan next to go in.

Taylor Walker makes my side. He's a freak.

Unfortunately being a 'freak' doesn't get you into AA calculations. You have to play consistantly good football over 22 rounds. Walker has played 2 or 3 good games but hasn't done very much at all apart from this.

Were you taking the piss? Maybe Russell will make a late charge?

Couldn't agree more. Everybody falls for Cox's stats.

IMO a ruckman should be the big body imposing himself on a game, taking strong marks, getting physical and obviously winning the hitouts, Sandilands is doing this every single week. Cox runs around on the wings by himself picking up cheap kicks and people go crazy for him, leave that crap for the midfielders.

If Sandilands isn't leading the race for no.1 ruck this year it's an absolute joke.

Sandilands is a lock for the 1st Ruck position, whether Cox has been injured or not. Cox would be vying with McIntosh and Jolly for the 2nd ruck position. It's not inconceivable that he will miss out altogether, although I would have him in by the skin of his teeth at the current time ahead of the other two.

If Swan doesn't make AA this year, the Collingwood supporters will tear AFL House down! He may be a crab, but he has probably elevated himself into the top 5 midfielders at the current time.

Swan isn't top 5. Ablett, Judd, Montagna, Hayes and Dal Santo are definitely above him. Selwood, Goodes, Swan and Boyd in the next group. I went with Selwood and Goodes because they are more damaging.

Swan is an ugly looking footballer, but he is more damaging than you may think. He is ranked 3rd in Total Inside 50's and 7th overall for Goal Assists, of which he is the leading pure midfielder in this category. I know stats can be twisted to suit, but I would have thought that the selectors would be looking closely at some of these stats.

Top 5 might actually be Ablett, Hayes, Montagna, Dal Santo and Swan. Judd is being found out the other way, which is hurting his credibility. Great player though and I'd imagine he will turn it around.

Where is McMuffin, surely a bloke on a million dollar contract that can't crack a game in one of the worst sides deserves a gig. Highest paid VFL player going around.

What about Mitchell?

he played one of his best games ever vs west coast.

My All Australian team:

B: Gilbert Scarlett Presti
HB: Goddard Fisher? Obrien
C: Dal Santo Hayes Montagna
HF: Johnson Riewoldt Lecras
F: Davis Brown Chapman
R: Sandilands Ablett Swan
Int: Cox Judd Pendlebury Higgins
Only 5 pies? Enright or Drummond would be ahead of O'Brien. I'd rather put him in the BP in place of Gilbert. Pendlebury being injured means he will fall off the pack. Swan I can't argue based on form, it's just a personal dislike for his playing style. Davis and Presti should be in most teams. Imagine, after years of complaining the Pies actually get more than 3 players picked.

Swan hasn't kicked as many goals as Goodes, but he is leading the AFL in score assists, and as mentioned above, is third for inside 50s. He lacks class compared to Dal Santo, Goodes and Montagna, but the only midfielder that's truly more damaging amongst that group is Ablett - it's only perception that suggests otherwise - he's so much more effective than he looks.

He's in the squad but ahead those 7 are ahead. Then Pendlebury, Watson and Sewell. The two remaining midfielders, Mitchell and Murphy would be under pressure from S.Thompson, Black, J.Bolton etc. Mitchell has been patchy this year, but his best has been outstanding.
