The Bart Cummings, Herbert Power, Geelong Cup, MV Cup, Bendigo Cup and Saab will all give those second tier stayers/horses not classy enough to run in WFA/up and comers a fair chance to make their Cups claims.
I'd expect to see a few of the Freedman imports given a chance in these (Trenchtown, Timetable, Sound Of Nature, Woodcutter, Speed Gifted if need be). Darcarwasha, Joe Blow, Hume, Fitoussi, Fordee, Young Centaur, Hissing Sid, Renewable, Zagreb etc perhaps that type of horse going to a Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup assured start may go around in these. It's tough to narrow down - at least there's half a dozen good chances for the genuine handicappers low in the weights to sneak into the big ones if they're good enough.

i don't think you'll find many melb cup horses in the bendigo cup, nuke. it's only 2200m, so not a qualification race. strange decision to downgrade from the 2400m.

Mourilyan is definitely coming for Melbourne Cup,trained by Gary Moore but will be under the care of Herman Brown.

He's a Desert Prince 5yo who last start won a 2800m listed at Goodwood with 60.5 kg,was also 2nd to Schiaparelli in the Goodwood Cup (3200m) at his 1st start this season.

Travel wont worry him,he's raced in Ireland,UK,Dubai & H Kong & Singapore & Canada

You're right, my bad, I just saw that, thanks! I just assumed it stayed at 2400m... strange decision alright. I knew it had been moved, didn't realised they cut the distance back though. No idea how/why they could have justified that. Disappointing.

All In Black goes around at Hastings tomorrow and if successful in that (which I think is just a question of the race being run and the jockey staying on board), surely Cup plans have to come into the picture if can sneak into a spot. Six O'Clock News, Harris Tweed and Hoorang would be the other 'big' names with Cups hopes.

Hoorang won in NZ on Saturday & is definitely coming, would need to win something here to get a run in either Cup.

Harris Tweed ran 3rd in the same race & will go to the Kelt,
Six O'Clock News ran 6th & All In Black ran 2nd last.

Daffodil was a brilliant winner of the Windsor Park, coming from 2nd last on the turn, she'll also go to the Kelt.

Warringah is about to go into quarantine & is heading to Chris Waller.
Seems very similar to the Changingoftheguard situation, has been bought for the Sydney Autumn but is still in the M Cup & qualified.

Chris Waller said this morning he has offered to split the prizemoney with
Sir Michael Stoute if he gets to the Cup so stay tuned.

Luca's Pair of Cima De Triomphe & Basaltico have arrived at Sandown.
CDT will have Ollie in the C Cup while Basaltico will need to go through the Geelong Cup to qualify for Flemington

Godolphin pair Kirklees & Crime Scene are also here with it now appearing likely that Kirklees will go to the Caulfield Cup....
that was the original plan & the market says that is more likely.

Changingoftheguard is apparently likely to run in the Saab on Derby day with the possibility of backing up.....

Unsung Heroine has had a slight setback with a tendon & looks to be running out of time this year.

bart will win the cup again, with roman emperor

So you've said a few times
Bart is a genius but seriously, the way it went last start it needs a tow rope/wet track or probably both.
Pacino gave him a cold in the straight & he couldnt get past Miss Marielle, cant see it myself

has anyone been following Profound Beauty much? how is it progressing at the moment?

Hasnt run since failing on that bottomless track in the Irish St Leger.due here next weekend with the rest of the o/s horses Mourilyan,Warringah & Changingoftheguard

Daffodil ran 4th in the Kelt yesterday, got held up but I have some reservations about that form with Miss Maren running 3rd...hope Im wrong

Speed Gifted was dominant in the Metrop & with a certain penalty is into the C Cup.

Anyone like to update the locals...Light Vision etc?

seth

Wouldn't sack Daffodil just yet Sethlad, had a bit of a torrid run and was ridden upside down for mine. copped a check in the straight and couldn't get out in time. Agree with you about the form out of the race though. I've backed it for a stack in the CC so maybe talking with my heart!!

After watching the racing on the weekend, I think the placings will be filled by 3 of these horses:

1. Efficient (Him or Viewed should win)
2. Viewed (Great run in the Turnbull)
3. C'est La Guerre (Good run in the Turnbull)
4. Zipping (Good run in the Turnbull)
5. Master O'Reilly (Similar ability to Zipping and C'est La Guerre)
6. Speed Gifted (A chance after his great Metropolitan win but depends how he goes at Caulfield)
7. Cima de Triomphe (Cumani's recent Melbourne Cup success makes him a chance)
8. Profound Beauty (Dermot Weld connection, good run last year)
9. Kirklees (Godolphin horse has to be rated a chance after All The Good last year)
10. Roman Emperor (Won't win but should run top 10 due to Bart)
11. Daffodil (Can't discount yet but it depends how she runs at Caulfield)

Effecient is $6.50. Viewed is $10.00

Wasn't it just three weeks ago when the TAB ran a promotion where they offered DOUBLE the odds of Effecient and Viewed.

And what $26 and $32 from memory. $52 and $64.

Of course the bets were capped and max exposure set too.

Wonder whether they would run a similar promotion now......

Profound Beauty not making the trip out for the cup deciding to stay in Ireland instead.

I'm sure this will make alot of people unhappy who have backed her and had her in their doubles in all in betting

Didnt see this one coming although with Weld, you never know.
Why pay the 2nd dec then decide to pull the pin?
Looks like my 2 mile Danehill theory has to wait another year

The one we havent discussed at all is Munsef, simply because I know virtually nothing about him.
Last start 2nd in the Stockholm Cup,2 runs ago he won a Listed handicap beating Basaltico who ran 4th

I have never been happier to be wrong.....DEFINITE STARTER

Yes indeed the newspapers, journalists etc would hvae been rapt when they heard that they love her... not hard to see why

Luca might have bought her down to take the attention off the horse and onto Francesca it has worked in the past ;)

Wasn't Welds call. The owner decided not to bring her down, apparently Weld tried to talk him out of it as he was pretty keen to get her down here, but the owner has the final say.

Pretty silly to do it when the horse has almost finished it's quarantine, she would have been down here next week.

Talk about being precious.

They blame wet tracks for her defeats yet don't bring her out here for fear of a hard track.
