B: Goddard, Fisher, Hodge, Ellis, mackie, Cornes, Drummond (Grima, Broughton)

C: Ablett, Swan, Judd, Selwood, Hasleby, Anthony (Kerr, Muston)

R: Cox, Sandilands (Currie, Meesen)

F: Franklin, Didak, Pavlich, Fev, Higgins, Krakouer, Thomas (Ballantyne,Wright)

This is my current team with 4 trades left and 130k (which I will probably upgrade Krakouer with), seeing as this is my first full and proper season, I dont know how many trades I will need for LTIs. Given my emergencies, how many trades would you say I need for LTIs?

Thats a question that no one can really answer with any certainty given the injuries curse has hit even the like of Pavlich this year.
I would say though that 3 trades would be on the low side. However you reserves are decent save for the rucks and Wright up forward (seems to be out of favour with Crocker coaching for a gig next year). DT requires a risk, and if the DT gods favour you on the run home you'll be laughing.

Team is the following inclusive of (Beams to Anthony and Rich to Ablett) trades:

Backs: Goddard, Fisher, Hodge, Grimes, Broughton, Mundy, Adcock (Houlihan, Suban)

Mids: Ablett, Swan, Bartel, Hayes, Gibbs, Selwood (world class :)) (Anthony, Hartlett)

Rucks: Cox, McIntosh

Forwards: Delidio, Reiwoldt, Pavlich, O'Keefe, Fevola, S. Johnson (Ballantyne, Thorp)

Question is will 3 trades see me through to the end. I feel it should as depth is ok and most players are keepers on current form. Any trades could be straight swaps ie a gun for another gun.

I want to get the Ablett trade out as i'm in the Eliminator and foolishly think I can still win the car (please chappy do a hammy...)

You have to be in it to win it...

Pretty good team you giving the other side an advantage playing 6 forwards?:D Any chance the 7th is Duddy

Great team, if you can swap Fevola for Didak you would be unstoppable. How many trades left?

I really need help for the following:

B: Goddard, Fisher, Mackie, Hodge, Adcock, Grimes, Broughton (Chornes, Silvester)

M: Kornes, Boyd, Selwood, Gibbs, Hasleby, Rich (Anthony, Cockie)

R: Cox, Mcintosh (Spencer, Jacobs)

F: Riewoldt, SJ, Delidio, Franklin, Higgins, Pavlich, Ballyntine (Goodwin, Sidebottom)

I have 124k in the bank and i need to squeeze money from somewhere to afford bartel or even Ablett. Any ideas?
How many trades do you have left? if you felt safe you could always downgrade someone like chad cornes since both grimes and broughton have been playing well.

i got 6 trades and i must make a late surge to stay in the eight and lift my ranking. To do that i really need Abllet or Bartel.

Chornes is back this week so id be happier to keep him incase of anything. Its gold to have Chad cornes bench emg!
I was thinking downgrading sidebottom or maybe goodwin to murphy/cloke?

maybe downgrade sidebottom but there is probably no point trading goodwin to someone else who will be scoring the same as him i dont think.

Whats my nxt move with 49k in the bank and 6 trades left

Here is my best ideas for what I would do with your team. Considering you have 6 trades left and it is only a learning year, I would trade hard for the coming 3-4 weeks. Getting your team as sorted as possible, then on the run home you will learn the importance of a solid bench and keeping trades in hand.

Next year, you will have these lessons in place and will have a better initial squad and also know about the injury problems in the last 6 weeks.

So as of today, this is what I would do.

Backs
Goddard, Mundy, P Burgoyne, Drummond, Houlihan,
Moore, Hill (Grima, Petrenko)
Mids
Bartel, Ablett, Kornes, Selwood, Mitchell, Rich (Robinson, Muston)
Rucks
Cox, McIntosh (Vickory, Cordy)
Backs
Roughead, Franklin, Skipworth, A Davey, Nahas, Ballantyne, Hahn (Sidebottom, Shoenmakers)

The players in bold will have to be considered keepers, as your don't have the trades to complete these upgrades.

This week I would look at downgrading either Robinson or Muston to Anthony. The upgrading Moore or Hill to a premium back.

Week 1
Robinson -> Anthony
Moore -> Hodge
Week 2

I've got 151K in the bank and 3 trades left, Rich to S. Thompson or J. Bartel this week?

This is mah team:

Goddard, Lockyer, Burgoyne, Grimes, Broughton, Drummond (Cheney, Chornes)
Kornes, Gibbs, Swan, Selwood, Rich, Anthony (Muston, Cockie)
Cox McIntosh
Pav, Higgins, Didak, O'Keefe, Reiwoldt, Chapman (Sidey, Hentchel)

Getting Bartel would only leave 11K for upgrade/injury trade, but getting Thompson would leave about 50K.

Any other options I haven't thought of?

What are peoples thoughts on Carrazzo? Has proven in recent years that he is a DT gun and showed some good form on the weekend. I think he is around the 330-40k mark right now and could be an enticing upgrage or replacement for an average backman such as houlihan.

houlihan id probably say not.. the other 2 barely

Houlihack is well......a hack like others had pointed out
Not a keeper, and is not guarranteed games
Drummonds score on the weekend proves that he isnt a keeper by any stretch of the immagination
Burgoyne is about as consistant as the Lottery, and there is no doubt that he isnt being allowed to be as free as he has been in the past. Is very close to being dropped

Only one i would maybe give you there is Burgoyne, but even then, you are looking at a 7th back at best

Barely? So players averaging 82-83 in the backline arnt keepers anymore? So mackie, hodge, fisher, ellis, bock, scotland, newman, ryder, shaw, birchall and mundy arnt keepers either then i spose? Just 15 backman are averaging greater than 85 in 2009 (including waite and bowden who dont really count).

I know the makeup of the backs were different in 2008, but consider these backline keepers for high finishing DTers last year:

Convicts (1st)
- Mattner 79.3
- Guerra 78.3
- Gram 77.7

Baxters (2nd)
- Birchall 79.1
- Johncock 76.6
- Welsh 76.5
- Ladson 75.6

Kev's Stars (3rd)
- Shaw 81.9
- Newman 81.9
- Milburn 81.6
- Birchall 79.1
- McPhee 74.8

Dageus (4th)
- Symes 80.1
- Birchall 79.1
- Guerra 78.3
- Gilbee 77.2
- Ibbotson 69.9

Chook Raffle (5th)
- Walker 82.1
- Milburn 81.6
- Mattner 79.3
- Gram 77.7
- Ibbotson 69.9

Even when you account for the higher scoring of players in 2009, and the backline fiasco of 2008, I think this shows that there is still plenty of room for a couple players averaging 75-80ish in your final backline. To say that players averaged 82-83 (drummond and burgoyne) are NOT keepers, is a little bit unrealistic.

How many people do you see with a backline of:
Goddard
Duffield
Lockyer
Chad
Gilbert
Hargrave
Adcock

(ie a backline without at least a couple of players averaging 80ish)

????

Not often.

Thats just my thoughts - if you have a different view, id be more than happy to explore as the values of 'keepers' and so forth is a topic im very interested in and im sure its discussion would be fruitful for all.

Cheers

Ok. For the final time this season I am looking at two possible options. I say for the final time because one of the options is a double-trade, something i won't do again.

OPTION 1:
OUT: Foley
IN: J.Selwood

Which would leave me with Hartlett and Cockie as emergencies.

OPTION 2:
OUT: Foley, Hartlett
IN: Anthony, any premium mid

Which would leave me with any premium (probably Hayes or Bartel) and Cockie and Anthony on the bench.

Which option do people think is better? Is it better to go with J.Selwood who won't average that much less than Bartel and hang onto a trade, or bring in a bench player guaranteed to play out the year as well as a Bartel/Hayes midfielder? cc

made a mistake, only 5 trades. Would u consider using 2 trades this week, or only the 1 downgrade?

Also, thanks for the help, lots of ppl have just commented :D

Great team, if you can swap Fevola for Didak you would be unstoppable. How many trades left?

I have 3 trades left but I consider my team finalised until hopefully the last couple of weeks where I might be able to do a Fev / Didak swap. I have been lucky due to the great run of form of Broughton and Grimes in the backline.

I dont consider Didak hurting me (like I see Chappys scores) because I choose between him and O'Keefe and both have been on fire. Picking up Ablett this week removes another headache.

OK tell me what you think? 6 Trades left going for league sitting 4th, have two players t upgrade and then done Rich and Brown.

a) Rich > Selwood , Brown > Murphy = 4 trades left for long term injury.

b) Rich > Sewell Hold out on Brown trade and then downgrade Broughton / Muston come finals time and get a better foward than Murphy i.e Roo / Chappy.

c) Hold out and wait for finals all together.

Bare in mind i have ample coverage on the bench, Backs = Broughton Mids = Anthony Fwds = Ballantyne.

Input appreciated..

Cheers

Rich to J.Selwood is a very good trade right now, especially if you have the cash to do it without wasting a second trade. He will average at least 25ppg extra, and his price is pretty much bottomed out.

The forward trade seems a little bit wasteful though. Hold onto the trade and bring in a gun (or two if you avoid LTIs) during the finals run.

I know Selwood is cheap, thing is if i brought in Selwood assuming i didnt bring in Murphy this week aswell, i could just as easy get Sewell, and then downgrade Broughton / Muston finals time and bring in a gun foward.

So i guess the question is Sewell or Selwood, who do people think is the better option, this will be the last two trades i make for the year leaving me with either 3 or 4 trades left for LTI.

Im leaning towards Sewell, and then a gun foward around finals, but Selwood and Murphy seem like an opoptunity not be missed?

Hey guys, trading out H. Hartlett for any mid under $395,000.. am leaning towards M. Murphy, M. Boyd, K. Cornes, C. Judd or Daniel Cross?.. what are your thoughts?
