Anyone else thinking Troy Chaplin is a roughie for a back pocket/half back flank?

Also is Daniel Cross doesn't get a spot on the field it is the biggest joke ever. He has been our best player this year and is IMO only behind Selwood And Hayes in the best clearence players in the comp.

If Kieran Jack doesnt make it then the selectors have no clue.

What do people think of my team?

Looks good apart from Tarrant. Frawley to CHB, Gilbert to BP, Goddard to HBF and bring in someone else for the bench.

Jack would be more of a smokie. He is borderline for the squad rather than the actual team imo. R22 has made it harder to pick the mids for the squad now.

Hodge, Swan, Pendlebury, Judd, Selwood, Chapman, Hayes, Montagna are locks. Even the next best in Boyd and Cooney I have doubts about for some reason. Griffen, Thomas and Bartel the other 3 atm.

Mundy and Cross have been good. Watson and Simpson have been thereabouts all year. I think I might be underrating Kelly and Jack a bit. Then a good performance from Harvey or Swallow today makes it harder again.

How did Gilbert go last night?
Barely noticed he was out there. Chris Schmidt tagged him out of the game.

It's a pity Graham Johncock only managed 15 games this season, as he's been the best back pocket in the competition when he's been on the park. We've had a shit year, but he's had his best season.

Surely Hodge has to be picked in the middle. I will be pretty annoyed if they put him on the half back flank. He has not played in the back line since 2009.

Frawley to CHB was just for that guys team to replace Tarrant. I'm happy with Taylor at CHB for my team. I know it's a slightly pathetic way to describe a footballer but he has been a warrior at CHB this season. Always puts his body on the line, always plays on the best forward, is good at going the 3rd man up and is good at chopping off leads. Tailed off a bit towards the end of the season but a great year from Harry.
Frawley is a better rebounder and has a better defensive record but as Chewy said a few pages ago the reverse coleman is ok for a guide but nothing more.

Brad Green playing well. :thumbsu:

Brent Harvey is a certainty for the squad I would've thought. Since round 11 (half way) he's averaged 26 disposals and kicked 10 goals in that time before tonight. Statistically he's been as good as his 2008 season when I think he made the team. *Edit* - 30 disposals and 3 goals means he has kicked 25 goals this season.

Green has locked up his place as well with 5 goals.

How close are Swallow, Harvey and Rawlings may I ask? Are any going to make the squad of 40?
They should all go close. Hard to predict Harvey because they might sneak him in as a forward. Wondering if I should do the same.

Fletcher has probably missed too many games now and Rawlings is one who I'd bring in for him. Swallow will probably miss out by 3-4 spots.

Green's 5 goals certainly didn't hurt. Frawley barely lost a 1 on 1 all night but wasn't exactly playing on top level forwards though. If I were picking a defence, I'd rather him in my team than Taylor but I can't see why they can't pick both. Surely in your ideal team you'd have 3 tall defenders. Frawley has played well on smalls too.

When is the AA Team announcement on??
13th I think. I'm not sure when the squad of 40 is announced.

In regards to your squad AG, I think Bartel is extremely borderline for it (assuming you keep him in). I'd pick Kelly ahead of him just from Geelongt. Cooney is another who is borderline imo, I think he has been very inconsistent. Griffen is slightly overrated. He doesn't get enough of the ball to warrant a spot. Thomas has been ok without being brilliant. As in he's been consistently good, where as more mids have had more very good performances. Kieren Jack another who you might underrated because he is a Swan but he has been impressive.

In defence I think Harbrow should be ahead of Morris as well. Milburn has had a fantastic finish to the season but was a bit patchy early on. I think Fletcher has missed too many games now as well. You always say 5 is about borderline and he has missed 6 now.

Harvey should be somewhere as well. I think he deserves to be in the midfielders section as one of the top 13 mids this season but it's always hard. There are a few spots in the forwards. Schneider and Brown should come out for Rioli and Harvey. I know they aren't forwards but they have had much better seasons and it makes the squad look better.

Squad is normally announced tomorrow. Or Wednesday.

Yeah Bartel is borderline, not sure if Kelly has been better though. You're the Geelong fan though. Bartel was very good early in the season and slowed up a bit. I think Kelly will make the official squad.

Cooney is another who is borderline imo, I think he has been very inconsistent.
I think Cooney is being underrated. All I see is Cross and Boyd but Cooney is the star of that team and, while he is a little bit inconsistent, 20 touches from him is better than 30 touches from the other two. I'm only rating Boyd highly because of his clearance work, compared to last year he doesn't do much with the ball once he has it. Still a good year from him though.

Griffen is slightly overrated. He doesn't get enough of the ball to warrant a spot.
Mundy will come in for him but I rate Griffen. I like mids who are able to impact games with less touches than the accumulators. Runs and carries the ball. Breaks lines.

Thomas has been ok without being brilliant. As in he's been consistently good, where as more mids have had more very good performances.
Agree but consistency is pretty important. I've said Thomas is borderline but I'll probably keep him.

Kieren Jack another who you might underrated because he is a Swan but he has been impressive.
Maybe I am but there have been better mids. He is one of a few who could come in for Bartel, Thomas, Griffen Cooney and Boyd. Those are the names I'm not really definite on. Cooney and Boyd are pretty safe though.

In defence I think Harbrow should be ahead of Morris as well. Milburn has had a fantastic finish to the season but was a bit patchy early on. I think Fletcher has missed too many games now as well. You always say 5 is about borderline and he has missed 6 now.
Disagree on Harbrow ahead of Morris. Morris has played well against the top teams and isn't a downhill skier. Plus he probably the best pure negating defender in the league this season.

Rawlings will come in for Fletcher for the final squad. Maybe Morris if some think Fletcher has still been good enough despite missing 6 games. The other 10 are locks.

I think players need to have kicked 30 goals or averaged about 1.5 goals a game to be classified as a forward. Both are seen as mids this year but both spend time up forward so I'm not against that. If I choose Harvey as a forward then he probably makes my team ahead of Deledio on the bench.

KS would be proud of that multi quote.

Aussie Gun why do you have so many players going in and out based on round 22? It is no more relevant that round 6. Can you remember who played well in round 6? No. Make your judgements based on feel for the season and maybe check some stats to back things up a little.

This is my final crack at a team, thought about it a fair bit:

Frawley Lake O'Brien
Goddard Taylor Hodge
Pendlebury Hayes Montagna
Didak Franklin Chapman
Green J.Riewoldt Hall
Ruck: Sandilands Ablett Swan
Inter: Judd Boyd Deledio Selwood

Considered these for a long time but couldn't fit them in:
Swallow, Fletcher, Dal Santo, Harvey, Thomas, LeCras, S.Johnson.

Happy to hear comments.

Preety hard to knock that team to be honest i hate the whole Hall and Riewoldt in the same forward line but if Riewoldt makes it Hall almost has to being he kicked about 4 less goals then him

Yeah I'm pretty open to swapping Hall. Thought he just pipped LeCras in a poor year for the key forwards.
