Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

#10 Oregon def. Colorado 45-2

Another W for us, even without QB Darron Thomas and RB LaMichael James for the second consecutive week.

Back-up QB Bryant Bennett threw for 156 yards and 2 TD's. He also ran for 69 yards an six carries. Kenjon Barner ran for 115 yards and 2 TD's and Tra Carson ran for 80 yards and 1 TD.

Next week we're hosting Washington State (3-4) but who have lost their past three. It's definitely a game that we should win, but I would like to see Thomas and James return. Even if it's only for a quarter or a half, it would be good to see them get some playing time with the game @ Washington in two weeks time in mind.

Was also a great day for us given Oklahoma and Wisconsin lost. No doubt we'll go ahead of the Badgers in the latest BCS Standings, not so sure about the Sooners although I think we should given out only loss was only neutral field to the best team in the country in LSU, whereas they lost to Texas Tech at home which is really, given their high standards, inexcusable. I also think we should go past the Razorbacks. They struggled to get past Ole Miss today. I think we should be #7 in the next BCS Rankings.

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

After a pretty dull Week 7 of College Football, Week 8 lighted up to extreme measures with two top-ten teams suffering their first defeats of the season and thus ending whatever BCS National Championship Game aspirations they had.

#7 Clemson def. North Carolina 59-38 - The Clemson Tigers Juggernaut keeps on rolling as after a tight first half, the Tigers exploded in the 3rd Quarter scoring 35pts in their home-win over the Tar Heels. If he wasn't already in the Heisman Trophy discussion, then he certainly vaulted into it after today's performance and that is Clemson QB Tahj Boyd. He threw for 367 yards and 5 TD's, coming off the 270 yards and 4 TD's he threw last week in the Tigers come-from-behind win over Maryland last week.

The Tigers are for real, and are a real chance to play in the National Championship Game if the cards fall their way. They just have to keep posting W's. It starts again next weekend when they travel to Georgia Tech (6-2) to face a Yellow Jackets team that's lost two in a row. This is a real trap game which Clemson cannot afford to take lightly.

#16 Michigan State def. #6 Wisconsin 37-31 - One of the most amazing finishes you're ever likely to witness in sport, let alone College Football. Spartans QB Kirk Cousins throwing a Hail Mary pass which came off a Wisconsin player and fell into the hands of Keith Nichol who barely was able to get it over the line. It was the stuff of dreams really. Amazing scenes were then scene at Spartan Stadium. I said pre-game that if the Spartans were to have any chance then QB Kirk Cousins would have to have an amazing game and limit the mistakes. He did exactly that throwing for 290 yards and 3 TD's but most importantly, no INT's. That wasn't the case for Badgers QB Russell Wilson, who threw 2 INT's to go along with his 2 TD's and 223 yards. It must be said though, the two drives in the 4th Quarter that Wisconsin scored touchdowns from, Wilson made a number of huge plays to keep them in the game.

In the end though, it's the Spartans that took the W and now go into their fourth consecutive week of their toughest stretch of the season. Next week they're at Nebraska. If they can survive that then the road ahead seems good for them to make it to the Big Ten Championship Game. Plenty of work still to do for the Badgers though. They're at Ohio State next week and the Buckeyes seem to be regaining a little bit of momentum.

Texas Tech def. #3 Oklahoma 41-38 - An incredible game in Norman, Oklahoma which saw the Red Raiders stun the Sooners and all but ended any chance they had of playing in the National Championship Game. The Red Raiders let the entire game although they can thank Sooners kicker Michael Hunnicutt for missing two field goals, one especially crucial one at 41-31 down which pretty much meant the end of any chance the Sooners had of winning the game. Red Raiders QB Seth Doege was fantastic throwing for 441 yards and 4 TD's plus rushing for another. RB's DeAndre Washington and Aaron Crawford were also good 146 yards between them. For the Sooners, QB Landry Jones threw for 412 yards and 5 TD's, but also 1 INT. Doesn't get any easier for the Sooners next week, they're at Kansas State, who are 7-0.

My Top 25:

1. LSU
2. Alabama
3. Oklahoma State
4. Clemson
5. Stanford
6. Boise State
7. Oregon
8. Arkansas
9. Kansas State
10. Oklahoma
11. Michigan State
12. Virginia Tech
13. Wisconsin
14. Nebraska

19. Penn State
20. Arizona State

From 20 on there's so many teams that have cases to be in the Top 25.

Obviously USC is ineligible to play in any Bowl games but in terms of the top 25 teams in the country, I think they're in it.

Nothing to do with predictions of the BCS tomorrow, just my general feeling of what the rankings should be (not what they will be).

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

So...I guess DB will be hoping for the Cowboys to beat Kansas State, then lose the Bedlam game. Stanford lose to Oregon/USC and Clemson slips in any one of its danger games.

All of those are actually quite possible.

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Great night for a Boise State supporter with Oklahoma and Wisconsin losing. The only teams I see realistically finishing undefeated are the Bama-LSU winner, Stanford, and Boise.

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

yep, yep.
I took out the Kenneth Massey computer rather than the Jeff Sagarin for the highest rank.

Stupid rule.

Should be xxx/150 as the computer

rather than xxx - lowest - highest /100

That means you get strange results like: (just looking at it for 2 minutes)

Sagarin:
TA&M - 7
Boise - 8
Auburn - 9
Stanford - 21

Colley Matrix
Houston 9
Wisconsin 23

Massey
Wisconsin Unranked

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Go Yellow Jackets!

Can you treat the Tigers like they're Cumberland or something?

Is a 200 point win too much to ask?

Oh, and go USC too!

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

USC breaking away from Stanford. Now up 20-10

Georgia Tech is holding off a Clemson comeback so far, and have broken even at 7-7 for the quarter, still up 21 (31-10)

Great results so far. :)

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Overtime because "of our idiotic" - Peyton Manning, receiver running across the field, rather than just going down.
