2012 Draft wish list

Drafting a KPF at pick #17 is a must, otherwise we're fooked. We need to develop one now. I trust our recruiting team. I can't say my wish list, because I know nothing about the kids coming through, although from the talks and videos I've seen of Shaw, I'm hoping he's still available at our firsr pick.

If Jaeksch, Shaw and stringer are gone by our first pick, what would everyone prefer a mid or Clurey if he was still available? We could also use an up and coming KPD and he has also proven that he can play as a forward to. i would love the choice between him and Menzel

Kennedy, Garlett, Simpson or O'Brien depending on who's available. I don't think Menzel would be available but if Jacksch, Shaw and Stringer are gone there'd be a great chance that one of Kennedy, Garlett or Simpson would be available.

Pick Upgrade plz ... that reasoon however big fan of Garlett just dont think we'd take him seeming as pearce has come and Morabito might be back early ... Imagine the 4 of them

Pavlich is the only Power type player we have drafted into our list, we seem to love the tall skinny potential kids, who always tempt, then dont take the next step.
I would prefer we drafted talls with some size to their build, Mason Shaw, Stringer, Jaksch, Clurey, even Membrey medium forward, could play some games next year.

How quickly people forget about Mora, and how similar he is in many respects to Pav in those early years (big-bodied, power, engine) but with an even greater engine than Pav. Remember the positions Pav played in his early years. Unfortunately Mora's injuries has stopped his development. Will be very interesting to see where RTB plays him the next 2 years now we have DP and through easing him back into AFL match fitness and the quicker game it is today (should suit him imo). I still have great hopes and expectations that Mora can become the player we were all thinking he could several years ago.

Morabito was recruited as a midfielder, I was talking about key position players, I just hope Anthony can stay on the park. We still wont see the best of him till 2014.

I have to admit I sort of feel the same - someone with some real size to them already versus another skinny project player would be good. Pav was not that big when drafted though except in the legs.

Morabito is almost exactly the same size and weight as Pav

Mora - 191cm, 97kg
Pav - 192cm, 100kg

They are the listed details on the Freo website but I am sure that Pav is slightly lighter now

They are comparable in size but i would say that Pav has better one on one ability and marking ability. That cn be worked on with Mora but i just don't think he can be turned in to a KPF. He has played his whole life as a pure mid or wing man. You just have to look at what all the Geelong supporters say about Mitch Brown, that he grew about 12cam in a year and went from being a mid to a KPP and just does not know how to play that position.
Don't get me wrong i would love to see Mora be able to swing between mid and CHF.

If Shaw, Jaksch and Stringer are gone by our pick 17 would we think about the young East Fremantle kid Marco Paparone?

Marco Paparone, East Fremantle, 3 September 1994, 193cm, 84kg Marco has elite endurance and has the ability to wear down opponents. He's a midfielder-forward who is strong overhead and can get outside well. For a boy of his size, he has excellent athletic attributes.

I heard some good stuff earlier in the year about him but not recently, not sure how his draft combine went either. Endurance is a factor in RTB same plan although Shaw has this as well. More stuff on him and other talls below:

He sounds like being more of what we have , in Morabito.
He doesn't seem big enough for a KPF and hasn't played the role .
He may be good but not what we require.

Personally I'd love to have him. He's kicked a shedload of goals for East Freo Colts this year. The problem with him is that he's not a superstrong contested mark. He's not a KPP as such.

Was playing KPF for the colts earlier in the year I thought, just that with Hogan in the team he didn't play there in the U18's.
Similar attributes to Pav really and can play multiple roles, whilst Shaw might be nicer for size he will probably be gone by 17. WA kids always my preference to any Vic boys with go home factor.

It's hard to look past Shaw for our pick if he's there. Big 197cm power forward, who grew up a Freo supporter, learning from Pav. Yes please.

An early-mid 20's pick would be nice to grab a Tom Clurey or Spencer White, but if we need to use later picks I wouldn't mind Alex Howsen from East Freo. Has played at both ends but I think at AFL level he'd be a defender.

Paparone would be nice but I don't think he fits the criteria for us, more of a late round/rookie pick luxury.
