It's ridiculous to label Jones and Cordy duds so early in their careers.
Cordy played his first game last season. Jones the year before. Key forwards always take time and they have both shown signs.
For all I know they may be duds in 2015 but unfortunately we won't know for some time.

My tipping has been ordinary at best this year Josh! What odds do you give Melbourne?

Remember if they win, it will almost definitely mean that they will finish above us and so will have picks 5 and 6 and will probably have to use pick 5 on Viney: huge, huge, huge incentive for the Dees to lose.

I can't see Melbourne winning.

Adelaide have far too much to play for & they will be fired up after last weeks poor effort. Hope I'm wrong but I expect this will be a percentage boost for Adelaide.

Sadly I think you are 100% correct PW. Would be bloody nice to have picks 3 and 4 wouldn't it. What would you do if it were your call and you had picks 3 and 4?

I would definitely take Toumpas if he is available as I think he is as good as anyone in the draft and is just the sort of player that we need.

Our second pick is more difficult. I think we need midfielders more than KPP's & for that reason I would pass on Grundy & Plowman even though I rate them highly & would look at one of Mayes, Wines or even Garlett.

I still have confidence that Jones and Cordy will be key players for us. Although I haven't seen Jones play in recent times, from the games I have seen, I think he is going to be our big pack contested marking player. So I agree with fronkalicious he will be our CHF long-term.

As for Cordy, I don’t see him becoming our leading key FF, but instead developing as a deep one-on-one FF/R option (ala Paul Salmon), I've watched Cordy several times this year and I think these are the three areas he really needs to work on in the off-season:

-Playing in front. Too often he has been caught out playing behind. At the end of the day he is a taller than most defenders so by playing in front will give him a massive advantage to either to take the mark, be awarded a free kick or direct the ball down towards our crumbers.

- Planting feet then wrestling/jostling with opponent to maintain his position in the contest. Gia does this very well, and Cordy should watch a few of Gia’s tapes. Too often I've seen Cordy miss-time his leap for the ball and in turn get edged out of the contest. During the 1st quarter on Sunday I saw him get pushed under the ball by Malceski (?!?), although he got a free kick and kicked a goal, I was disappointed he was rewarded a free in this instance due to his poor positioning in the contest. But there is light at the end of the tunnel, because I know he can do it, against North earlier this year I saw Cordy rag doll his opponent and then take the mark. I expect Cordy will get better at this as he increases his upper body strength, but he really needs to work on this now until it becomes second nature/habit for him in every contest.

- Finally, he needs to learn to ALWAYS go for the mark with TWO hands. Seen him several times jump into packs one handed. I’m not even going to bother explaining why he should go for his marks with two hands.

So in summary, I think if he improves on these 3 areas in the off-season we will have a very handy player to work with. As such, I’m not overly concerned about our 2012 forward line woes.

I saw this too, but feel it relates more to your first point. Cordy had the front position and Malceski blatantly pushed him in the back because there was nothing else he could do. Cordy does need to start reading the play better though. Hopefully this will come with time.

It shouldn't come into it, I know, but I'm a bit wary given some of the stuff you hear about Martin only wanting to go to certain clubs. First decision is therefore do we try to trade one of the picks for the first Mini-Draft pick, or do we stick with the main draft?

Toumpas sounds like a fantastic fit and sounds like he'd be the kind of character that BMc wants. Will he still be available? If we don't go with a trade for Martin with pick 3, then I guess we also need to then decide between Toumpas (if available) and Viney - do we bid pick 3 for Viney and take the risk that Melbourne will baulk? I would play it safe and not bluff, so unless the recruiting staff were adamant that Viney was a better selection than the Toumpas or Mayes (or whomever was available at pick 3) I'd not force Melbourne to use their first round pick on Viney (which is also why I can't see GWS or GC bidding picks 1 or 2 on Viney.)

From what I've read on the phantom drafts (very unreliable) and from Shifter and Ablett's AFL reviews on players so far I think the possible players to select appear the same as the ones you listed: Toumpas, Mayes, Wines, maybe Garlett, maybe even Stringer if he looks like he's regained his explosiveness, leap and agility in the testing at the draft camp.

Bloody hard to work it out this year with the Mini-draft and possible father-son bidding. Made even harder if we do end up with picks 3 and 4 instead of 5 and 6 or 6 and 7.

At the end of the day I think we have to go with picking the best available - Stefoid convinced me of that in one of the other threads. The hardest question in the AFL is always who is the kid best available at your pick?

I agree with you in regards to not bidding for Viney, as I don't think he is a genuine top 5 pick in this draft, and we don't want to risk losing a really top class player just to try and force Melbourne's hand.

The Mini draft is interesting although I believe it is likely that GC will offer Pick 2 to GWS for Martin. I haven't seen Martin play but I would still go for Toumpas ahead of him as I have seen Toumpas many times & I'm really sold on him.

I think we will end up with picks 5 and 6. I agree with going with best available and from what I've seen and heard Oliver Wines and Sam Mayes would fall into this category. There will be others around, we can only pray Toumpas is still there but I'm sure Stringer/O'Rourke/Plowman will be in and amongst it.

Our key talls in that forward line really, really worry me. I see Tom Williams' future to be honest at CHF, with Jones every so slowly progressing to take over. To be honest I don't have a great deal of faith in Panos, but I do think we should put a real solid pre-season into Jack Redpath. Think the guy has enourmous talent with the frame he has, it's a spew he's injured at the moment or else we could trial him at the top level.

@TK: if you are referring to the conversation between Peter Wallis and myself, we were thinking about what we would do if Melbourne defeated the Crows and ended up higher on the ladder than us.

I will comment if and when is proved to be true.....but do you think they would be doing this now? I would be suprised. Willi still has a finals series....Seems to be strange....and it is after all just rumour....
