LOL.. a powerhouse ?

its half of the 17th placed club for memberships the Suns
& barely 1/4 of the 16th club the Lions

I'm thinking just at this point in time , this may be the lowest total for any club in either code

The Giants' membership total will eclipse both Cronulla and Penrith's total membeship figure. Have either of them ever gotten over 10,000?

If GWS break 6000k they are doing well. However, I would be keen to see a breakdown of the Canberra 3 game membership in the tally, just as I am always keen to see the South Melbourne number in the Swans tally.

Reality suggests that the majority of GWS members will be newcomers to the game and will only join up once they see the actual action unfold in front of them.

They secured 12,000 last year playing in the NEAFL, not bad. I expect them to do ok this year (membership wise), but the test will be a decade down the track. Not fair to judge them over 3-5 years.

Gold Coast similarly, they have been a resounding success so far and the AFL could not be happier. There is actual genuine interest up in Surfer's ..... this will translate as they get better....i think people are going to be suitably impressed this year with onfield improvements!

2K down on last year

looking at a substantial drop on 2011:eek:;)

At the end of the 2010 season all the foundation members were eager to sign up as member for the inaugural season, which saw the club get to 10000 members in no time. This year it is different so membership numbers will rise gradually and not in one huge surge. There were also a lot of 3 game Gabba memberships purchased by Lions supporters who probably won't buy memberships this year. Now that the inaugural season is over and the team's performance has been very poor supporters might be reluctant to buy a membership this year and wait until the team starts having success before joining up as a member. Also something to note is that all Lions and Suns games are broadcast live on FTA TV on the Gold Coast which will impact membership and attendance numbers.

I don't think there is anything to worry about at all. :thumbsu:

that'd be 3000th ... Ticketed for the Panthers

they were at 3200 overall ..... 6 weeks ago
they'd be well ahead of GWS

;)

Wow, an NRL club smack bang in the middle of 'rugby league heartland' may or may not have more members than a GayFL team that no-one could care less about?

Crack open the champagne!!

GWS will have more members by round 1, which is hilarious.

apparently Rhys Palmer > 40 years of panthers heritage ;)

GWS's existence together with GCS will weaken the AFL in the short term. With even more blow outs and predictability this season, tv rating and crowds will drop.
Whilst it is obviously possible that with time these clubs will become worthwhile, it is by no means certain. It is just as easy to believe that the NRL will thrive as a result adopting AFL ideas.

Thats what you're hoping for. It's also quite possible for Geelong & the Pies to drop back a level, for NM, Ess & Freo to improve and all of a sudden it's very competitive amongst the top 10 or so sides. As for the Suns, when they get their shit together in 2 or 3 years time they will blow the Titans off the QLD map.

This is thread is about AFL membership numbers. This is not an AFL vs NRL thread. Please take your trolling else where.

I don't see how. It means an extra game each week so anyone that goes to the games or watches it will be extra crowd figures and viewers,

Well average crowd will go down which we all recognise but the aggregate will almost certainly go up.

The most important thing is that the number of unique individuals attending the game increases as its reaching a wider audience. It's also why playing games in Tasmania, Darwin and Cairns can only be good for the game.

Anyway, none of this is particularly relevant to a discussion on memberships.
