Preview 2012 - What we need to give the flag a shake?

- embley is nearly done. i'd be looking for one of fringe players to replace him as best 22 next year. some woeful efforts this year, including today.

- beau waters would make excellent trade bait. highly regarded - it seems people can't see his poor skills the same way they can't see clark kent is superman. cats sat off him all day, happy to give him 40 touches knowing they'll get most of them right back. trading him could net us a top line mid, which is the final piece of the puzzle for us

I think we might need to take a small step backwards next year.

Thank A Selwood, Embley and Q Lynch for their service. Following year Glass and Cox should go.

Re: What do we need next year.

Id be throwing Masten's name up in trade week, see what we get offered..
quick, small forward.
Wouldn't mind seeing Embley play as a spare man in defence. push hurn into the midfield a bit more. Rosa and gaff on the wings.
less kicking from Waters.
Give schofield more freedom, love when he is running the ball out of defence.

Re: What do we need next year.

1. 1 or 2 crumbing forwards ala Milne who sit at the feet of the talls given our disposition toward the long bomb into the forward 50.

2. 1 or 2 quality midfielders to help solidify the rotation and spell the others.

Can't fault too much today, West Coast was beaten by a better side, a result that many projected. Happy to get some finals experience in to a reasonably young list.

NicNat is going to take the AFL by storm in the coming seasons. He will have no equal.

Re: What do we need next year.

1. Try and trade Masten and Embley

2. Find another classy midfielder

3. Good small fast crumbing forward

Can't wait for next year.

Trade Masten and Brown, then look for a classy mid and a KPD? Not sure about that.

I agree that we need run out of defence, but we've already got Schofield and Smith on the list. And maybe Stevenson will come good.

We need a crumber who can play up the ground. A Ballantyne/Christensen type. I'd be aiming to get one with our second pick.

Re: What do we need next year.

I reckon Masten/Ebert and try to get a small, quick crumbing forward like people have mentioned.

I think we have a good list of young midfielders however. Darling and Shuey will improve next year and Gaff will add more muscle. :thumbsu:

Blane Wilson to become a best 22 player off the half back flank. Imagine the elite disposal between he and Hurn.

M Brown to have a break out year at CHB. Mackenzie at FB with Glass taking (and dominating) 3rd tall forwards like Dustin Fletcher has done for the past few years. Schofield to move up the field maybe? Tall wingman type?

Rosa to come back successfully from his injury and B Sheppard or someone else currently not in best 22 to play really well off the other wing and allow Gaff to move in to the centre square (after a summer in the gym).

J Kennedy to improve again and give the All Australian team a shake.

Lecca to have a full pre season and play more in the midfield.

Kerr to play 22 games.

The likes of Brennan, Swift, Stevens, Weedon, J Jones and a few others to have huge pre seasons and really push (and possibly replace) those who are best 22 now.

Move Beau forward maybe?

Etc etc

In other words there is a lot but all of it quite realistic.

Trading Brown and Masten is laughable? Who do you want that soft **** in Wellingham?

In the end the problems that we had today where largely structural, Woosha asked the wrong players to do the right thing. Embley, Waters, A.Selwood aren't going to be good enough to take us too a flag.

We need improvement within the group and we need players like Strijk come from within put squad to best 22 status.

Yep, this is exactly right. We really struggled on the HBF and HFFs. We struggled to run the ball out of defence, etc etc.

Rosa in to replace Embley. Embley has to go. He had a couple of good games at the start of the year that somehow got him into the AA squad but has been average for most of the year.

Lecras needs to have a good preseason and find some form.

A decent half back to help out Hurn.

Another good midfielder. I'm still not completely sold on Masten and its not because of his skills but his size. He just looks too small to be effective.

We can do this

next year or the year after.

I think the current team can take us to the flag it almost did..

Theres only been one time all of our players have been firing at a once which was the 2nd qtr vs Geelong this year.

And if you watch that it was some absolutely stunning flawless footy.

Re: What do we need next year.

Another years development from Masten and Shuey should see them in the middle. Gaff to replace Embley and Embley in the WAFL. Waters to improve his disposal or in the WAFL to be replaced by Smith. Naitanui has to improve his endurance. If he can then there is no spot for Cox in the team because you can't have a player who can't provide any pressure and plays the majority of the game in the forward line. Ideally I would like to see Cox traded and Lynch played as 2nd ruck but I know that will never happen.

Sounds easy. Elite KPD and midfielder.

We don't actually need another KPD next year folks and we might not need one in three years time with Brown, McKenzie and Schofield all being well short of reaching their prime.

We actually need another KPF more than anything. We have some back flankers to replace some of those clanger kings. Perhaps someone who can run and kick.
