Re: What do we need next year.

Id be throwing Masten's name up in trade week, see what we get offered..
quick, small forward.
Wouldn't mind seeing Embley play as a spare man in defence. push hurn into the midfield a bit more. Rosa and gaff on the wings.
less kicking from Waters.
Give schofield more freedom, love when he is running the ball out of defence.

1) Masten was one of our better players today;

2) Disgraceful game by Embley, can't kick, can't even get the ball; fell over; should see out his days with SD in the WAFL;

3) Agree on this point;

4) Weak game by Schofield, not convinced that he's best 22, couldn't take the marks, or even spoil when the heat was on.

Needs (in order of priority)

1. More speed / break the line players (too obvious with the long kick to pack)
- A. Smith should have played today and will be significant next year
- Need to target someone like Yarran or look to the draft for someone like Isiah Smith
- Gaff will get better with time
- Schofield has potential if he doesn't have to mark a key forward
- ? Not sure whether Brennan, Swift are capable of developing

2. Class midfielder
- Shuey, S. Selwood, K. Stevens, Naitanui, Mcginnity, Darling will get better.
- Unfortunately our half forward/half back flankers can't help much in the midfield/clearances (Hurn, Waters, Butler, Nicoski, Darling, Lynch, even Le Cras)
- Wellingham is not the answer

3. Replacement tall back for Glass
- Glass will still be good next year but following year after it leaves a big hole
- Not sure if Brown is up to the task.
- Would really love to have Harry Taylor right now.

4. Game plan
- Has been extremely good this year but needs tweaking to get us to the next level
- Forward line is one tall too big (love Lynch's big marks but he is the likely one that needs to go, especially if Darling and Lycett comes of age). We compensated by having Darling and Kennedy putting pressure but against good backlines like Collingwood and Geelong we struggle.
- Need more run out of the backline
- Scott Burns to continue with the midfield (I was jumping for joy when he missed out on the Adelaide job) and add some passages of play through the corridor.
- Need to teach Naitanui to either mark on the lead or crumb to Kennedy. He will not be a wrestling type contested marker.

2012 moto - Look at Geelong - smashed in the preliminary last year but came back to win the cup the following year (my prediction)

Sounds easy. Elite KPD and midfielder.

We don't actually need another KPD next year folks and we might not need one in three years time with Brown, McKenzie and Schofield all being well short of reaching their prime.

We actually need another KPF more than anything. We have some back flankers to replace some of those clanger kings. Perhaps someone who can run and kick.

Run and kick being of most importance.

Re: What do we need next year.

just more development from our young players like last year. A small forward would be great but there are not a lot around worth chasing

Re: What do we need next year.

- need another key back. are mckenzies foot injuries going to be long term? clearly saw him limping today.
- crumbing forward is a must.
- lecras needs to improve in finals. disposal/tackling
- some silk. like a varcoe or wellingham up on the wing.
- waters improve his turnover rate.

mastens game was fine given we hardly touched the ball. playing forward was difficult today and was ok when moved in the middle.

Re: What do we need next year.

Another years development from Masten and Shuey should see them in the middle. Gaff to replace Embley and Embley in the WAFL. Waters to improve his disposal or in the WAFL to be replaced by Smith. Naitanui has to improve his endurance. If he can then there is no spot for Cox in the team because you can't have a player who can't provide any pressure and plays the majority of the game in the forward line. Ideally I would like to see Cox traded and Lynch played as 2nd ruck but I know that will never happen.

:thumbsu: excellent troll

An elite small in our forward line would be massive. Nicoski has excelled this season, but is really just a stop gap in that role. Been out of the game in both MCG finals.

LeCras is our small forward but one that plays tall. I actually think he can be released and become the midfielder we're searching for. Kerr, LeCras, Shuey, Gaff... not a bad friggin' quartet there.

Not sure if we're going to get it next year but we need to be ultra aggressive for Brandon Matera. He would be a massive coup to lure back. C'mon, Bluey, help a brutha out. ;)

Re: What do we need next year.

Playing Naitanui in the ruck leaves Cox where????? As a forward 80% of the game and his man absolutely destroys WC on the rebound because Cox is too slow.

Mate that happened to every West Coast forward today, maybee we should trade them all?

Re: What do we need next year.

The only way both Naitanui and Cox can play in the same team is if Naitanui is used as a midfielder while Cox is rucking. If Naitanui is in the ruck for most of the game Cox will be in the forward line being next to useless other than his 1-2 goals. It is no coincidence that every other team in the team has 1 ruckman + 1 part time ruckman. If they played 2 ruckman they would be destroyed with lack of run.

Re: What do we need next year.

i actually thought that masten played quite well this year once given the chance. lightning fast set of hands, runs the game out better than most, disposal by foot is getting better and now he is getting more run in the midfield, he is making a lot more use of his possession. gets a lot of hard ball

dont think there is any need to panic... brandon matera would be nice... but i think we need class and quick half back man.. leon davis wants to finish his career at home and he would be a perfect fit for 2yrs. wouldnt need to give up anything for him as his 30.

masten and swift perfect trade players to GWS and GC.

Re: What do we need next year.

Do we have a crack at Lewis Jetta? currently out of the Swans best 22. He has speed and dash.

Blane Wilson to become a best 22 player off the half back flank. Imagine the elite disposal between he and Hurn.

M Brown to have a break out year at CHB. Mackenzie at FB with Glass taking (and dominating) 3rd tall forwards like Dustin Fletcher has done for the past few years. Schofield to move up the field maybe? Tall wingman type?

The number one frequent post every year for the last 5 years.

Who knows? They might not be up there again next year

Just ask the Western Bulldogs, they were playing the Preliminary Final last year. And now they are nothing more than a sidenote as Prime Minister Julia Gillard's favourite AFL team

I'd be throwing up the following names to see what we can lure in:

- LeCras
- M.Brown
- Priddis
- Lynch

Need:
- 1 or 2 big bodies gun midfielders
- A proper Crumber

Need to slowly pit out to pasture:
- Priddis
- Embley
- A.Selwood

These were the players that didn't play today, from oldest to youngest:

Brett Jones
Ashton Hams
Matt Rosa
Bradd Dalziell
Andrew Strijk
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
Callum Wilson
Mitchell Brown

Jacob Brennan
Brad Ebert

Beau Waters for Brandon Matera?
