Re: What do we need next year.

Nicoski needs to learn how to lock the ball in better
Replace Ebert at HF for McGinnity
Cox needs to be a more dangerous forward, mark the ball instead of looking for a free
LeCras needs to become a consistantly better midfielder mabye add a bit more bulk
Schofield, A.Selwood, Waters and Butler (or Smith) need to provide more line breaking run from defence and kick better when they do it

Darling, Ebert, Gaff, Masten, McKenzie, Schofield, Scooter, McGinnity, Naita, Stevens, Sheppard, Shuey, Weedon, Swift etc... need to get quicker, stronger, harder and more consistant over the preseason.

I can see Sheppard taking one of Embley or A.Selwood's spot in the midfield or defence....

Re: What do we need next year.

1) Masten was one of our better players today;

2) Disgraceful game by Embley, can't kick, can't even get the ball; fell over; should see out his days with SD in the WAFL;

3) Agree on this point;

4) Weak game by Schofield, not convinced that he's best 22, couldn't take the marks, or even spoil when the heat was on.

He is easily best 22.

Hasn't been the same player since the facial injury. Hopefully he can regain some confidence over the pre-season.

I seriously think Smith should replace either Butler (even though I am a huge fan), or Waters (I know it won't happen) in our best 22.

Had a fantastic year and is massively unlucky with that injury. WC match committee play favourites to often I think.

Re: What do we need next year.

How come end of the season always seems to mean "Trade whoever has had a bad game in recently memory"?
Only to next year say "good thing we kept player x, I wanted him traded last year"

I'm sure theres still "toast to chris masten" threads going around.... "I was a dumb ass and don't know shit about footy because I wrote off embley, nicoski, lynch... etc" threads going around

Re: What do we need next year.

We are just a "Chris Judd" type player away from going that one step further I think. Sadly you don't just get a Judd like player that easy so I guess we develop and draft what we can.

We are what we are, no need to panic as a prelim is honourable and counts as a flag for teams like the Bulldogs, Richmond and Fremantle.

I still think winning the Spoon last year and getting an easy draw this year has shown up the fix-ture for what it is. We won';t be getting it so lightly next year me thinks.

Start and play McGinnity for full games. He would have provided the enthusiasm and set the standard for contested play right from the start today. We had no intensity and drive from the get go. He is very important psychologically for our team.

Re: What do we need next year.

Some serious overreactions in this thread.

I think we have the makings of a premiership team and if all goes ohk we should be contenders next year.

As far as list changes goes i think we need to hit the draft or trade in kids. I don't think we should be trading in older talent as its unlikely to get us a premiership before cox,glass, embers and maybe kerr are gone. Our best chance for premierships lies with Lecras, kennedy, hurn and our kids.

I would encourage a fair amount of rollover on our list.
Ebert and swift i think should be sold to the highest bidder
A Selwood to GWS or GC if possible
Trade Dalziell, callum wilson if possible

Masten, Butler, Rosa and mitch brown aswell but only if the price is right.

Do something about our glut of tall half back flankers, delist if necessary just not B wilson.

Get Davis if he comes for anything below pick 40 (would be a very handy player for us on the HBF or forward pocket, would add the kicking skills and pace combination we lack)

Look for a Key Defender in the draft or trade for a young one eg. pears
Draft the best players available. Try desperately to get omeara when that fails go for pick two and maybe garlett. Get a small crumbing forward.

Preseason wise
Get some weight onto lecras, Gaff, Sheppard, darling, swift, masten and butler.
Work on our skills and hope that Shuey, Gaff, Darling, Mckenzie and NN turn into the stars we know they can be.

Re: What do we need next year.

Some players need to bulk up a bit in the gym which is just natural, its plain to see that bigger bodies (as long as the bulk doesn't affect speed or agility) is a real asset in September. eg Lecras vs Harry O. I'm not saying Lecras has to bulk up, but he got monstered by Harry O who is just faster and just as agile as anyone but looks twice the size which helps in the 1on1 body-to-body battles.

Incidentally i think lecras does need to add weight. He definitely could add a couple kg's before he would start to loose any pace or athleticism.

Finally with same proper marking talls in our foward line, LeCras is being found out as not being a Crumber.

lecras wasn't the same this year post groin injury. was on fire in the preseason and round one IIRC. despite that, still had a very solid year.

such short memories, some of you. probably the same ones calling for kerr to be traded the past 2 years.

How bloody exciting!

Pre-season is going to be huge. As has been said some work into Scooter, Shu, Gaff, JD, NicNat playing with two arms and some development into our younger defenders and we're building a pretty formiddable group of youngsters. I see a lot of potential in Ash Smith. He's going to be damaging one day.

Patience and the rewards will come. It might seem like we're missing some vital positions now but the talent is there to work on. Draft develop, draft develop.

I doubt many people saw D. Swan becoming a 50 possession Chevrolet a few years ago.

Was good to see Gaff get some confidence and although uninfluential was good to see him get a bit run today.

Get some miles into Darlings legs. Hes the answer for those seeing another A grade midfielder. He has the height, speed, aggression, and overall ball sense to be the next Adam Goodes. Will open up a spot fwd for Weedon or Brown.

Have a feeling Darling could win a Brownlow if he gets the opportunity to play midfield.

I don't think he has the same sideways agility as Goodes. Although blistering in a straight line, seems a little clumsy when tacking.

Decent set shot kick but again seems a little clumsy with the ball at full pace. All easily worked on though.

Masten needs waaaaaaaaaay more time in the middle, we've seen how good he can be if he's given the right position. If he doesn't he really shouldn't be getting a spot.

we need a quality KPD masten has no curency we have to go to the draft.
