Pfft.... No Whitecross.

Good team and a premiership chance too. Just need to all be there in September including Mitchell. Remember him;)

Other change, I would at least have Hale on the bench, probably replacing Savage which is tough. This may depend on the opposition defensive size. Can't rely on Roughead to back up in the ruck now and need a backup ruckman for Bailey. He rotates on the forward line to stretch the opposition and is a reasonable kick for goal. Best 22 player I still think. Otherwise a bit of a shuffle but at least we have some depth now.

Note that thomas murphy isn't in it, finally! (Although i don't think it will happen)

Also Brendan Fevola is there, with the emergance of Jarryd Roughead playing second ruck this year and Buddy kick chasing up the ground we often find ourself with no forward target as shown many times in the prelim when buddy was up the ground and it was Puopolo playing as the key man when the ball came forward :| One thing that hawthorn does lack is a big contested marking option in the forward line, Buddy and Roughy the to great players they are, are not good contested marks, but yet we still kick it on their heads like they are? What could go wrong with fev ? put him on a rookie contract with a get out clause if he does anything wrong and put him on a rookie salary, who cares if it doesnt work out, just sack him? Surely it's worth the crack during our premiership window....

Also Schoenmakers does make it, even throughout all the mistakes he makes, possibly costing us a grand final birth, he did show signs against players like Dawes and Reid in the two finals, hes only 20. Give him a fair go Hawthorn supporters!!

hahaha cant believe I forgot our best player...:p

Looking forward to 2012 going to be a BIG year If Bateman doesn't retire on his own accord he better get the tap on the shoulder the amount of clangers in that collingwood game was disgraceful.

Burgoyne in the middle please and rotate up forward IMO wasted down back.

Don't think Guerra will drop out of our best 22, has been a solid player but I'm struggling to find someone to drop. Possibly Osborne?

I'm on the same page as you here, what is to lose by throwing Fev a lifeline? It goes either of two ways.........we pick up a bloke who at his best is a natural match winner, proven player at the highest level and......something we don't have..........a great set shot for goal OR he doesn't get a kick or misbehaves and we sack him on the spot.

Considering we will more than likely add Gunston to a forward line that already has Franklin and Roughead, the reward would far outweigh the risk.

Schoenmakers is still young, give him a full season playing on the big boys and then make up your mind, with Gilham back to help out. Roughead may be an emergency key defender if need be.......especially if we make some interesting moves at the table this week in regards to attacking players up for grabs.

This would be my best 22 heading into next, assuming trade week goes as expected.

FB: B.Guerra...R.Shoey/S.Gilham....B.Stratton
HB: G.Birchall...J.Gibson...M.Suckling
C: S.Burgouyne...S.Mitchell...I.Smith
HF: J.Gunston...L.Franklin...S.Savage
FF: L.Bruest...J.Roughead...C.Rioli
R: M.Bailey...L.Hodge...B.Sewell
INT: J.Lewis...L.Shiels...B.Whitecross
S: P.Puopulo

EMG: M.Osborne...D.Hale...X.Ellis

I'm sure many will not agree with the backline, however I think that is the best backline that provides flexibility whilst also providing plenty of rebound. Our backline at times struggled to get the ball out, so all of those players are very capable rebounds & defenders.

Prefer to look at a squad now - as I belive we will rotate and rest heavily as geelong do.
eg some of the top 12 wont even play against teams not expected to make finals

Suspend buddy ? no problem, we will just adjust his rest schedlule to account for it

I don't agree that Hale has forced Big Max to the bench but that's hardly an issue.

Personally, I have been trying to force Goo out of my Best 22 for 3 years now. Every year, I reckon I have him out, then somehow he weasels back in. Last year I thought I had him out for sure when we picked up Popeye - but sure enough, he has a bloody good year, & sure enough, there he is, holding down a BP in my Best 22...

Damn you ever-reliable Goo:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Really would like Murphy in there, but I believe with Gilham back it will allow Stratton/Gibson to play as that loose man, and both are versatile enough to play on the smalls.

Ellis will definately be pushing down on a spot if he is fully fit. Ozzy if he can recapture 2008 form will be great for us. Savage needs to do some running in the preseason, ran out of steam this year. If he can get his fitness back he will be a valuable goal kicking midfielder IMO and in the side.

If Soozie stays we have adequate ruck cover. If Lisle stays we have a genuine FF/FB should something go wrong. I would love for Young to regain his fitness to really force Smith and Savage to fight for their spots.

Hopefully we get a glimpse at some of our future talent in Hallahan, Lowden and Litherland if they stay uninjured. They were a bit unlucky with their injuries throughout the year. Langford is also someone I'm keen on, bloke is fearless.

We have a genuine depth going down to 30 men which is great.

Ellis, Guerra, Oz, Lisle, Murph, Soozy, Young, Johnson (if we re-rookie). Have some up and comers in Sierra also.

Very excited for 2012. Great depth, great balanced side, new faces, no injuries , premiership.

I don't agree that Hale has forced Big Max to the bench but that's hardly an issue.

IMO I reckon Bailey needs to improve around the ground bigtime and I don't know what happened to Renouf he seemed to disappear off the face of the planet but I remember him taking big pack marks in defense and drifting forward and taking marks (even though he was still very much a work in progress). So if Renouf has a big pre-season and or isn't traded I believe he will take Bailey's spot aswell.

B: Stratts | Lisle | Gibson
HB: Birch | Shoey | Suckling
C: Smith | Mitchell | Burgoyne
HF: Gunston| Franklin | Hodge
FF: Rioli | Roughy | Hale
R: Bailey | Sewell | Lewis

IC: Savage Shiels Ellis Breust

Bench had to go:
Shiels - is 100% definite best 22
Savage - can hopefully come on and provide more run through the midfield
Ellis - I reckon will have a big year next year - with a full preseason and renewed vigor after nearly being traded, can see him exploding
Bruest - Will be a gun Stevie J like opportunistic forward

Poo will 100% come in, just not sure where!

Depth - Guerra, Ozzie, Murphy, Gilham, Renouf*, Young*, Whitecross, Ladson*
*may be traded

Will be really interesting to see what we do with the forward line though.

From above, the pure forwards are:
200cm - Hale
197cm - Buddy
195cm - Roughy
193cm - Gunner
184cm - Bruest
177cm - Cyril

Although considering Buddy and Gunner are agile, it's more like 2 KPF (Rough, Hale), 2 Medium flankers (Buddy, Gunner) and 2 small crumbing forwards (Cyril, Bruest), but with the flexibility of having 4 talls which no backline at the moment could cover.

What a squad! :thumbsu:

FB: Brent Guerra, Stephen Gilham, Josh Gibson
HB: Grant Birchall, Ryan Shoenmakers, Ben Stratton

C: Isaac Smith, Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis

HF: Shaun Burgoyne, Lance Franklin, Jack Gunston
FF: Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead, Paul Puopolo

R: Max Bailey, Luke Hodge, Brad Sewell

I: Liam Shiels, Brendan Whitecross, Tom Murphy, Luke Bruest

The rest: Matt Suckling, David Hale, Rick Ladson, Xavier Ellis,
Michael Osborne, Chance Bateman, Jordan Lisle, Clinton Young, Kyle Cheney, Shane Savage, Cameron Bruce etc.
