The Collingwood v Essendon match in round 18 will pretty much depend on how many Collingwood members turn up as it will be a pies home game. This year all our home games at the mcg have gotten between 45-55,000 Collingwood fans. If say 45-50,000 Collingwood fans go to the twighlight game the crowd could get to 80,000!

I actually think at this stage the crowd will more likely be 70-75,000. What were the afl thinking having the two biggest clubs in the afl playing in the worst time slot. It the match was played on a Friday night, Saturday arvo or night the crowd would be between 85-90,000.
It should clear 75k you'd think.

Apparently the MCG are predicting 52,000. Perhaps it will be perhaps it won't but the Train is running so all bets are off in terms of predicting what number turn out.
It's shaping as a pretty decent contest. Given there us no other decent game at the MCG this weekend it will also draw a sizable neutral following looking to see a good game between 2 strong teams. It's not far being off a blockbuster at the G so that will create greater interest from AFL and MCC members in particular, as it did a week ago for the Cats V Hawks. I think it should draw 50,000+.

Richmond V Freo has got a bit spicy in recent games. About 35K two years ago with the Tiges in no kind of ladder position and about 43K last year with neither in the top 8 were good turnouts when ladder position is taken into account and the one point match in Perth earlier this year adds a bit of bite as well. Neither side has given up on a top 4 finish ( I admit unlikely for the Tigers ) and if the rain stays off it'll be fascinating to see what apretty much fully laden tiger train can draw V a traditionally poor drawing WA opponent.

It's supply v demand.
With a 100,000 seat stadium, supply wins.
If our stadium held 40K, it would be full every week and impossible to get tickets.

Part thereof - I think it is less the stadium itself, more the multitude of teams that drives the supply and hence the variability. Exacerbated by the fact that most of the larger crowds within Melbourne owe more to the presence of locally-based away teams. When the stars align the result is magic, when the stars aren't aligned, not so crash hot. Further exacerbated by the outside influences of AFL Membership and MCC Membership seating which operate according to their vagaries.

Will be the biggest crowd Fremantle have played in front of for a regular season game in its history. Only need 46k to accomplish this, they already got 43k last year for the same fixture. The tiger train is rolling.

Isn't their biggest ever crowd 46k (finals included?)

I think we'll get only 45k due to the weather.

Last year Collingwood got nearly 46k I think and Richmond got around 44.5k. I know the Richmond game it was raining and I believe the Collingwood game also had poor conditions as well.

Good weather, along with being the only game at the G meaning the neutral support should be strong, as well as the fact that it's two genuine finals teams (one being a premiership contender) playing, means it should push 50k and be the biggest attendance for a Freo game in Melbourne.

On the Sunday Twilight Timeslot, what does everyone think Collingwood vs Essendon in Round 19 will draw? I'm seriously doubting anything over 70,000-75,000. Even if both teams don't lose a game between now and then.

If ASADA announces its findings that week as has been mooted then it also has the potential to be the biggest, most feral crowd imaginable.

Sunday is showers and 12C

50k+ may depend upon how strong the bloody showers are. Cold is one thing, but if its pouring and bloody cold watching at home is very attractive

I've heard that the weather is horrible in Melb today. Lucky there's only one game on there today and it's at Etihad.
