  3. ?
  4. Bontempelli
  5. Kolodjashnij
  6. Aish
  7. ?
  8. McDonald
Seems to be the order. Billings surely fits in at 3, and Scharenberg at 7, but no real confirmation.

Billings at 3. Most likely Scharenberg at 7 although could be McCarthy. Hope its not McCarthy because Carlton want him and hes not really worth a first rounder

It's not our pick, so why do you care?

Are people not concerned about Scharenberg's foot problem? He played very little football this year, plus he's a floating half-back, not a mid. I hope he gets taken before pick 9.

Joel Selwood, Dyson Heppel, Chris Judd.... These guys all slid down the draft order due to injury. If he is available we should jump at taking him.

How long has it been since we have had an elite running defender. Grimes is the only half decent one I can remember in years

Every top 4 side has players who damage teams off half back

Look at Sydney, Hawthorn, Geelong etc

Absolutely fits a need for us

Areas of need for us in no particular order
-Small forward who can apply defensive pressure, ability to kick goals and create them through pressure (Kennedy/Harris, Garlett, Honeychurch)
-Mid fielder who can break lines (Freeman)
-Mid forward who can kick goals (Salem)
-Running defender who can be 3rd man up and set us up from the back by foot (Scharemberg)

If he is available he would be an excellent choice

Firstly, as we've seen with Clark and Egan, foot injuries are more problematic than shoulders and knees.

Secondly, our midfield is our most immediate need, and with the exception of Birchall, most of the quality running defenders started as midfielders. It's easier to convert from a mid to a defender than vice versa.

Thirdly, you can't call Scharenberg an elite running defender when you don't know how his game will translate to AFL level, which has a greater focus on shutting down unaccountable backmen.

Col Garland, Jack Grimes, James Hird have all come back from serious foot injuries too.

I'm not concerned about the injury but rather his game. Josh Toy was highly rated too. Quality u18 HB and thought to have potential to be mid.

On Dom Sheed bandwagon.

Think it's a bit too early to really say that Grimesy has come back from any of his injuries.

I recall blease kicking 5 goals playing the saints or did I imagine that?
Why do you highlight one game. What else has he done in 4 years. For heavens sake his overall output is average which reflects the way he trains. He and Jetta are two of the worst endurance runners at the club and play the way they train.

so i didn't imagine it

Dom Sheed for me. Looks composed and has a good read on the game (from what i've seen).

I guess it's Salem for the dees then if there's any truth to this

Some late mail coming through suggesting that Collingwood will opt to take James Aish at pick 6, and Nathan Freeman at pick 10.

I have a mate who works with recruiting for North and he has told me the dees are into Salem unless someone rated higher than him slips through

So we'll draft Salem unless we think someone better is available?

Cautiously optimistic about Salem after researching abit.

Seems like he's a laser kick, but I just don't know where his ideal position is. We don't need another Morton/Jetta/Bennell type who can't find a role.

Salem can seriously play.
Has massive scope, great kick, has the traits to be exceptional on the outside, but is more known for his inside game, ferocious tackler and not afraid to put his body on the line.
I think he has the ability to be a very good, all rounded midfielder.
I'd take him before Freeman in a heart beat, no brainer.
Sorry to intrude btw.
