With just one weekend to go, almost time to re-load for 2013.

Interesting going through the community newspapers.

* Rupo looking at leaving the ammos
* Ormond and Glen Eira threw up the idea of merging but this was quickly knocked on the head.

Any other such big news/changes in the wind?

Wow, if Glen Eira merged the result would be making a big charge for most merged club.

The approach came from Ormond. I think they were feeling the water to get another ground for their juniors of maybe a ground for a club starting with A and ending with X. The other side of the coin is that Ormond have lost so many players and are looking to go to the SFL

Just want to reiterate that Glen Eira was/is not looking to merge with anyone. The President of Ormond approached us and asked us to merge with them. When we asked what they had in mind we were told:

  • We would move to their ground.
  • They would keep their jumper with a crest on it for us.
  • The name of the club would change from Ormond Amateur Football Club to Ormond Football Club.

Don’t know why they bothered really.

It has been mentioned that they wanted out ground for juniors, but the council have already had their under 9s-12s using Packer Park this season.

Maybe another oval in the area not being used on a Saturday would help another club looking to move.

Not sure why GE Saints would not progress this. Ormond have a strong junior feeder, a proud history and always have an U19 team. Glen Eira has none of the above. As demonstrated by Mobbenfuhrer’s table they are not adverse to a merge so one more is hardly going to tear at the fabric of the club. They have no legitimate feeder and despite working very hard have not been able to get a 19s team up and running after 10 years of trying.

A merger would make the combined entity the biggest club in Glen Eira with access to 2 decent grounds. Keep the name Ormond - GE home ground is only a few Ks east of the suburb anyway. As a trade off come up with a neutral jumper. Surely it would not take much to convince the Ormond faithful to dispense with that brown and blue shocker. With all due respect to the history and many great players that have worn that into battle it is the wost jumper in the VAFA by an absolute mile. (I can just see Bedford coming in off the long run !)

1st The colours come from the field ambulance at Gallipoli and you get used to it lol
2nd One Ormond official approached GE, but it was not endorced by the commitee.
3rd A fair bit of trouble has been stirred up behind the scenes by the club from Albert Park trying to get a ground in the area and if the merge was a goer there might have been a spare ground.
4th The council believes we have too many junior sides to train at E E Gunn, so some played a couple of games at Packer Park and trained there.
The one thing this has done is that it already has people from both clubs putting their hands up to help more and that has been the one positive to come out of it.

Ormond's jumper is among the best going around. It was always pure coincidence that every time my bus wandered near to the ground, Sherbet's version of "Free The People" would play on my walkman.

I've only been to Glen Eira's ground twice, once for a footy match and once for a Christmas Carols night. The footy match was good ...

Back as recently as 2007, I still don't remember seeing any senior teams playing at Koornang Park. What the hell's wrong with that ground? Surface seems good, has some parking with little restrictions in nearby streets, very accessible and has its own grandstand. It seemed to have been vacated by senior footy about the time StK-ormond and Gardenvale merged to form (Southern FL) Caulfield, which is early to mid 1990s. Have seen some junior footy there, though.

Someone from the vafa told me that the get applications from clubs every year & it's about balancing the grades rather than just let everyone in. Northern blues afc are putting in a reserves side next yr & you would think would enter d4. It's also been put on one of the sfl pages its saying the southern dragons won't to come across & there is a school in box hill that is looking to start up aswell.

Apparently Rupo were umming and aaahing to stay/go, but some free gym memberships from Monash swayed them.

Rupo on their way. Well done to Monash - the great survivors of C-Section!

I thought Rupo were on the way to A Grade a few years back with the Phillips brothers and guns like Brennan, Collins etc were there. Sad if they are leaving. Very sad.

Don't they lose their good players to Scumbery

I believe it's all to do with money. They loose there good players to the likes of Sunbury who pay big $$$. What they need to realise is, if they join the same comp, unless they are prepared to also pay the big dollars, those players will still walk

They have lost players to different clubs, aberfeldie, sunbury lions, sunbury kangaroos. They are looking to move into the RDFL which is not the same league sunbury lions (who pay the big bucks). They won't need to pay too much money to mix it in that comp but at least they won't keep losing players.

Shithouse bus driver then Mobbs. There's never been a route bus that "....wandered near the ground.....":D

BTW. Not even the most ardent Monder would say it's the most attractive jumper. But its whats inside them that counts. Watch out for a resurgent Monders next year. Hey 'bedford'!

I know the route and the location, but yes there was still a little walk from where that was.

I seriously like the jumper. I guess I wouldn't be welcome there :D
Always welcome Mobbs. Never heard anyone actually say they liked the jumper. The old Fitzroy F C jumper - now you're talking.:)

Dennis Castaldi appointed head coach at Therry Penola. Former club great coming home after a reserves coaching stint at Collegians and working with Collingwood's recruiting department. A good get by Therry.

Hampton Rovers have appointed Guy Martyn to be the new coach for season 2013 and beyond. Martyn will be assisted by St Bede Mentone Tigers premiership coach Owen Lalor.

Local newspaper with all the news again...VAFA considering A-Section GF to be played at revamped Punt Road...even with it being made somewhat bigger at the moment, it still will be a big of a postage stamp won't it? Albeit with prospects of much better atmostphere than EP, plus not as exposed to the spring breeze.
