If we dropped any more things would get interesting. We have a tough 2nd half of the year.
GWS and Melbourne are zero chance to bid on him. Not a fit for the Saints or Dogs. Brisbane would be the only chance to bid on him IMO. Differnt if we improve our position but as it stands it is not a certanity that the 5 teams below us would bid on him. Simialr to Viney last year.
Actually he's pretty much exactly what we need. If he wasn't f/s, I'd expect us to take him. He'll be bid on regardless, as everyone knows you'll take him.

I didn't know Luke McDonald was a big Key Forward?

You are only 1 game behind us. It is the same situation as Viney if we drop down the ladder.

KP back and forward will have to be your number 1 target.

Yeah, because that's all we need?.

I think it's safe to say you'll finish above us. It would be a dismal failure if you dropped down any more. I expect you'll be pushing up, rather than dropping down.

The only problem with that is that Boyd is likely to be gone by their pick and there is probably no-one worth picking that early that plays key defence. So considering the Bulldogs also have a major need for outside class and brilliant finishing, I fully expect they (apart from anyone else) would bid on him.

McDonald is rated around the 6th best player in the draft. We will only start favs V Gws, Dees and Bris in Bris - which is no gimme. We won't move up with 2 wins and unless we pull our finger out we are every chance to finish with 7 to 8 wins. It is a long shot we get him for our 2nd rounder but there is a long way to go.

I thought you'd be used to it by now Yoda_. It is, after all, my specialty (especially when dealing with "trade buffs")

o_O

what magic is this? thou hast seen the future?

at the moment it seems general concensus has boyd scharenberg and aish around the top 3 and a bunch of guys all around the next group. mcdonald is a top kid. you would have to think that any of gws, gc , port , bris , melb , st kilda and bulldogs would be keen on a hbf/midfielder with a great kick. some of those teams will finish below you if not a great deal of them.

melb got viney because they finished 3rd last. you would have to finish 3rd last to have a shot at someone passing on mcdonald. i see the 3rd 4th 5th teams as all seeing good value in bidding on mcdonald.

no way you guys should finish that low and if you do everyone in your club should be sacked for that bad a finish would be a terrible flop.

For the Carlton fans, what would you see as a fair trade for Yarran just out of curiosity?

Went #7 in a strong draft. Still inconsistent, but his very best is elite. If Mick can stay inside his head and play him out on a wing where his run and delivery will hurt teams, he'll be an A grader. He's also signed to the end of next year.

Would take a big pick or a very good key forward, but he's not going anywhere. If he did, it'd be for silly cash from the franchises or to go back to WA. But here's something to start a shitfight. Hurley for Yarran, straight swap. Hurley has some injury issues and Yarran can lack focus. Carlton have got plenty of speedsters but lack blue chip talls and Essendon need speed and have good tall options coming on.

It'd have to be one hell of an offer for us to consider trading him to Essendon.

Can't see that eventuating.

yeah this. In terms of percentage value we'd probably have to pay about 140% of what the weagles or freo would. Can't see the blues trading him unless he wants out, and even then, I can't see him coming our way

Luke Thompson was only drafted at 107 in 2010 so obviously won't be expecting much for him and with only 14 games in three season as I assume he'd struggle to get many this season if any even with good form at SANFL level. But a pick around 50 to 60 I think would get him over back to Victoria. But then those picks also depend on how much the Crows value him...

About right.

Realistically, I think he is a pick upgrade. Maybe him and our 4th for your third.

Premiership contender if you just had that damn KPF. I think there was just a small amount of wishful thinking mixed in with some delusion going into his post. :D

Are there any examples of high profile interstate players leaving for another clubin Victoria? The Mitch Clark trade kind of applies but that was with a big hit from the money stick.

Yarran is much needed and much loved at Carlton. I get that these questions arise when a player is disciplined/dropped, but I can't see him going anywhere. If there was a go-home factor it would need to be a hell of a pick or a Gaff like player in return one would think.

I'm not sure if I would trade Gaff for Yarran, but trying to take my Eagles hat off it seems like a reasonable deal. How does it sound from a Carlton perspective?

I suppose it balances out. Risks and rewards both ways.

Gaff knows how to find and provides plenty of outside run. Certainly a little more workmanlike in his approach from what I can see. Yarran has all the talent in the world, match winning abilities but applies it less consistently. A Naitanui/Yarran pairing would appeal on a number of levels.

Wonder if Gaff is carrying a little something. He certainly has cooled from his great 2012 form.

Would not surprise me to see the Pies throw everything at TBC.

The key players from that premiership/best 22 side aren't getting any younger and as good and potent as Witts/Grundy could become, are they going to take the Pendlebury's, Swan's O'Briens etc to another flag?

The pies are proven traders and have. Track record in selecting Ruckmen, if TBC wanted out somewhere, would be silly to not consider the Pies.

What would they give up for him though?

Given their history, a first round pick at least. Possibly a player added in.
