Must resign Watts, way too much talent and far too high an investment to let him walk for unders.
Use #2 (probably on Aish)
Table our second/third rounder for a talented up and comer down the rotation at a bigger club. Luke Parker (behind Jack, McVeigh, O'Keefe, Hannebery, Kennedy) from Sydney (just resigned but would have been ideal) is the kind of guy we should be looking at.
I doubt that a future star like Gaff or Sloane could be convinced to play for MFC, even if we get Roos.

Josh Thomas (behind Swan, Pendles, Beams, Sidebottom, Blair, Ball, and Daisy) from Collingwood is another who has shown an ability to find the ball and use it well at AFL level. He would slot in nicely. Thomas is a better player and would cost considerably less than we were willing to pay for Wellingham last year.

David Ellard or Tom Bell (behind Murphy, Gibbs, Judd, Simpson, McLean, Curnow, Carrazzo, Armfield) from Carlton are worth looking at as well.

Our top 9 mids atm are N.Jones, Trengove, Sylvia, M.Jones, Viney, Toumpas, Brynes, McKenzie, Evans(?!).
Parker, Thomas, Bell and Ellard would have little trouble cracking into that group.

From a FA pov, Daniel Cross would be a player who would at least at consistency and competitiveness to our midfield for 1 or 2 seasons, especially helping N.Jones and Viney with the inside work. If Cross goes elsewhere Matt Thomas from PA is a similarly hard and tough competitor. Neither would cost much.

I'm unsure on Joey Corey's intentions for next season but he would be a great mentor and leader if only for 1 season. Unlike Neeld's signings last year, Corey was once a good player, an exceptionally good player.

Mav Weller (GC) would also not be a bad punt to add competition to Terlich and Dunn's positions next to Grimes across HB.

Agree with most of that. Parker was one of the players I'd hope we'd look at trying to pick off, but Bolton retiring (and Mattner to some extent as well, meaning McVeigh went and played off half back) means he's now cut and tried in the starting side. Jed Lamb might be one we could swipe given Rohan is on recovery road.

Bell for sure is worth looking at. Pass on Ellard. Thomas as well.

Joel Corey would be a good get, still good enough to play at this level and actually played a major role in Geelong's success instead of riding the wave like Byrnes, so should provide a bit of insight and professionalism for the side.

Seen a bit of Mav Weller and while I don't think he's terrible, I don't think he's much chop either. Doesn't seem to do anything particularly well and I'm not sure what position he's supposed to be aiming to play. Not a midfielder or a forward or an out and out defender. Seems a fill a hole type player.

Seeing some pretty ordinary names getting throw up, which seem to follow the same lines as Neelds recycled scrap heap approach.. What we need are ball magnet guns, who can run and accumulate. If these guys are not already in the system, then they need to be drafted from the under 17 comp. If we cannot find them then we do not settle on Carltons left overs!

Most teams aren't going to give up a ball winning gun cheaply or at all. Getting recycled players isn't a bad strategy but we need to actually find recycled players who are genuinely good players. Pedo, Rodan, Byrnes etc were never more than average players. Finding guys who are actually good, i.e. best 25 at a decent club and have performed well at a set position (don't need any more swingman types), but not necessarily big name stars would be ideal.

Pedo is young, people need to stop giving him shit ffs.

but I agree it wont be easy getting a big name so we may have to get a retiree to get experience then next year when things are looking up maybe go for a big name?

He'll be 27 at the start of next season. That is not young.

He has been a poor acquisition. I'd handle it if he was given 1 or 2 years, but he has 3. List clogger at its finest.
youngish... lol okay so not that young but still people have been a tad harsh on him, i cant imagine him being on millions of dollars

What do you think Melbourne would give up for Jarryd Lyons and David Mackay?

Melbourne attempted to get Mackay last year - he said no.

If Pedo wasn't shit, people wouldnt give him shit. But he is, so they do.

Get Selwood, Aish, Adams and Zac Jones.

If this happens, throw all other picks in the bin. Were done.

These guys are exactly what we need (reaching a bit on Jones due to his DNA)

Who do you guys believe will be trade bait for us this year?

Only ones I can think of as potentials (interest probably isn't there though) are Tapscott, Nicholson, Sellar and maybe Blease/Strauss/Davis.

Most likely in the delist categories though.

And also Watts if he leaves.

Agree 110%

I mentioned a while ago before all the threads were merged that we should be chasing young ball winning mids that aren't getting opportunities at their current clubs, which included Viv Michie & Mitch Hallahan.

Despite Michie being injured with a foot injury we should still be pursuing him with what would be a late draft pick & Hallahan has just won the JJ Liston Trophy in the VFL. I still believe these are the young players we can target for next to nothing that can impact our midfield

Word is and Captain Jack can back me up here - that Scott Selwood is interested (presumably if Roos signs) and that WCE would give him up and steak knives (fringe player) up for pick #2.

I never said he was interested! Haha... let's take a step back here. Having seen Selwood's name bandied about here once or twice over the last few days, I was talking about it this arvo with a mate. He then asked the opinion of an Eagles supporter he knows.

This Eagles fan was pretty receptive of the idea. His points were that
1) he reckons they are 3-4 years away from flag contention
2) Selwood isn't a good enough kick to be a full-on A-grade midfielder, and Wellingham can play as a tagger if needed
3) with picks #2 and #6 they would go after Aish and Sheed (a WA boy I believe) as the future core of their midfield along with the likes of Gaff and Shuey.
4) they could throw in someone like Ash Smith (running HBF type) to balance the deal a bit.

Now I certainly haven't heard anything about Selwood being interested in coming to the MFC apart from the handful of posts on the forum here. What I have now heard is that the WCE would probably have a good look at a deal involving pick #2 - it could be a win-win for both clubs. Of course, Roos being here would help our cause no end in getting someone of Selwood's quality to the club.
