I would not renew my membership nxt yr if Melbourne wasted any first/second round picks on the likes of S Selwood.

Lol - would be our best midfielder.

Are you upset we used #12 on Nathan Jones in 06'?

In fairness Roos has a proven record when it comes to training, so I would back his judgement

True, though he never spent any top-10 picks in his trades as far as I know. Getting value for pick 2 is a lot harder than pick 15 or so, like he used to get Jolly.

Yeah true, but he picked up players like Kennedy. Would you be happy with a player like him for pick 2?

With hindsight, sure. But at the time it was hard to tell whether he would become as good as he has. I trust the recruiting staff wouldn't give up pick 2 cheaply but we would want to get a very good player in return who'd still be below 24 or 25.

Yeah, of course!

But Scott Selwood is a 23 year old midfielder who is 2nd in tackles per game (in the AFL) and 13th in clearances per game (also in the AFL), averages 11.4 contested possessions per game as well - polled 15 Charlie votes last year to top it off.

I would have thought he qualifies your criteria haha :p

At pick 2 though???

Just seems high

Joel he ain't

Look I understand it

But pick 2 is POTENTIALLY elite

Keep in mind this is potential under roos, not bailey / neeld / prenderghastly / Harrington

Roos has been quoted as saying he would trade pick 2 for a gun mid... he looks gun

Yeah, POTENTIALLY, fact of the matter is that S Selwood is pretty close to elite already. Having him and Jones in the middle, leading the clearances, contested possessions and hopefully tackles would serve as an inspiration and motivation for our younger midfielder to take the game on. If he's thought of as a potential captain then he obviously has leadership qualities too, which we also require.

I think him and Jones would make great mentors for Viney, Toumpas, Trengrove, Blease, Evans etc.

Yeah, I'm with Viney here. Selwood is good but is unlikely to be elite, which Aish could very well be. I know we are not known for our development and Aish still has a fair way to go, but under Roos and co (hopefully) can yield some better results.
My stance on this changes though if we get Pick 1.

Pick 2 for Selwood seems crazy to me, I know we need a midfield but he's not good enough to justify giving away pick 2.

If we give up #2 for Scott selwood we would need something extra on top of that too.
#2 in a straight swap would be too much in my opinion & I would prefer Rockliff if its a straight swap.

Perhaps swapping our 3rd rnd pick for their (WCE) 2nd rnd pick would even it up?

Exactly what we need.

My feeling is Roos will want some quantitative improvement in the side immediately. That will be in the form of wins and finishing position. If we have a priority pick, I have no problem with trading one for a GREAT mid and drafting a potential gun mid with the other.

I really rate Scott. Not as good as Joel, sure, but a damn sight better than Adam or Troy.

Not really swinging one way or the other there. Joel Selwood I hear is quite handy, and while Adam managed to grind out a career as an honest tryer, Troy was pretty ordinary. It's a broad meadow you're plowing.

Personally I reckon #2 is too much for Selwood. Just because the a lot of the kids we've had in recent years haven't come through doesn't mean we don't go for the gun kids now. Have to hope Roos or whoever steps in can sort the off-field issues out and allow the players to develop properly. If we can't sort out that then it doesn't really matter what we do because we'll stay in the downward spiral until we keel over or get franchised off to Tazzie.

Tried searching this thread but where did the rumour actually come from of Scooter to Melbourne?

I did hear Lyon (yes I know he's not an currently attached to your club in an official manner) talking up throwing a big contract his way during Triple Ms call of an Eagles game recently.

Has there been any indication from your club at all that they'd be interested?

Its been one of the few that have come up in the wake of Roos shocking us all on Friday night. Not sure exactly where from though.

I could be wrong but officially I doubt it
But we would be closing monitoring any interstate Victorian midfielders who are in the 20-24 bracket and could potentially be available

Like asked before do you think he would be available with pick 2 an some other picks/ players
You guys with a fresh coach need a mini re build after this season id say it would certainly look appealing

Something like 2 for Scott selwood and your 2nd rounder

I hope we don't have a new coach, but anyway, I think any trade that involves pick 2 and Scooter would have the Eagles very interested. I think most can agree pick 2 alone would be overs (hence most on our board all for it) so I'd think there would have to be other players or picks involved to get it done.

Without knowing who the club has their eye on though and how good the very top end talent of this draft is (didn't expect us to finish this low or the possibility of trading for pick 2) it's hard to say how willing they would be to part with the second pick. But it would have to be something like that for it to actually happen, pick two in a straight swap would have us making out like bandits.

I forgot you guys finished so low , 13th?

So it's like 2 for selwood and 24 ish , I think that comes across as around about the mark

I would like Selwood and their first for our first and third. Gives us a pick in the first still for a mid.
