Chris Cain or Valenti would make strong rookie selections.

As for Darcy Moore, commit to the kid now. We dont need to lock away a first rounder to him until the bidding process.. so if we know that we like him and we know that hes worth drafting, why not commit? Melbourne committed to Viney and got him for a second rounder after having him play the whole year in the VFL side.

Couldnt see anything better for Darcys development than being at the club full time

Melbourne would have had to use pick 3. Which means GWS or GC would have had to take Viney with their first picks if they were going to force Melbourne to use it. That is why he slide to their second round.

We would have to use our pick between 12-15ish. Which means there would be 11 or more clubs who would have the chance to use their first round picks.

I suspect we will commit to him anyway - surely a 198 cm athletic CHF is worth at least committing to with our last pick in the draft. If there are any bids on him, then we can decide whether to let him go or not. I just think it will give us more of a chance to control his development (and output).

The "formal" nomination date has already been and gone, was 7th of October, we nominated Kelly as a rookie meaning that he can be taken in the draft by any team, but if he's not taken by anyone he automatically becomes a Pies rookie listed player.

North had to nominate McDonald with their first pick as someone else (Eagles I believe) offered their first round pick for him.

No it hasn't. It doesn't open until the 25th November. We obviously didn't nominate him as a national draft selection father/son option, and it wouldn't make sense to nominate him as a rookie yet given he might not even make it to that stage (e.g. if he gets picked up in the draft then that nomination means nothing).

I think you'd agree that this is logically the right sequence. There s a difference between nominating someone for a rookie spot and nominating someone for a list spot. The list spot was the 7th October.

Instead, should Kelly still be available prior to the Rookie Draft on 27 November, Collingwood will have the option of pre-listing him as a Father-Son rookie selection.

It's no secret that the club is now going into it's second season of a long term plan with a view of recruiting more mature aged players (both VFL and AFL rookie listed) to assist the VFL side in being highly competitive.

So appears he is auto rookied by us if not selected in main draft.
The word 'potential' is used as other clubs can take before the rookie draft.
Seems clear to me.
