Best I could find (no tattoos though)
Eh. No offence mate but I don't think you're that great with Photoshop. Mine was better.

Is McCartin really a can't miss prospect?

I can understand holding onto 2 for Brayshaw, but unless we are certain of Petracca sliding I find it baffling that we didn't try to trade out of 3. The CHF/FF combination of Jesse and Paddy makes sense in my head, but it won't matter if the ball only comes down there once a twice a quarter.

Yeah I'm not sold on McCartin at all. I would be really happy trading down with pick 3 if we could get a nice deal

No special sauces just unsubstantiated speculation...

Howes' tweet this arvo had me thinking.."Fair bit going on today #tradeperiod"

From Talking Carlton...

"apparently GWS offered pick 6 for howe and then howes manager asked collingwood if they were interested for pick 5 cos howe doesnt really want to go to GWS

um

wtf?"

The lack of an associated riddle really diminishes this rumor.

Whilst P6 for Howe is huge overs, I'd be hesitant to give up any of our senior players. Especially ones with his x-factor. Is out of contract at the end of next year though.

Re Lumumba - story online: http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/heritier-lumumba-to-reduce-media-presence-at-melbourne-determined-to-play-best-football/story-fndv8pdq-1227091692480

What I like the sound of:
HERITIER Lumumba has pledged to Melbourne his troublemaking days are over, determined to let his football do the talking next year.

Lumumba has acknowledged he became a distracting presence at Collingwood, culminating in a bizarre Copeland Trophy speech where he labelled himself as “The Prince”.

Melbourne coach Paul Roos yesterday told the Herald Sun that Lumumba wanted to finish his career in a blaze of glory, not as a polarising publicity machine.

At the Demons he won’t do media interviews, has already shut down his twitter site and will this week also close his facebook page.

What I don't like the sound of:
The ex-Collingwood veteran has signed a three-year deal with a fourth-year trigger and will earn nearly $500,000 a season.

$500,000 a season? Get f*****
Have to make the min-cap somehow, atleast the bloke can play a bit. Would you rather pay one of our cloggers massive overs to do nothing for the next couple of years or a dickhead who might help the team get better?

averaged an incredible 23 games a season in the past eight years
That's more than most of our midfielders. At the very least HL is exciting to watch. Certainly an upgrade on Terlich/Georgiou, and hopefully it'll take some pressure off of Grimes whose disposal clearly suffered this year from the amount of heat we faced getting the ball out of defence.

B: Jetta Dunn Garland
HB: Grimes McDonald Lumumba

Throw in Howe and Frost and hopefully a running Toumpas and that's a pretty well balanced back unit.

EDIT: Seems to me like he's very fit and durable too. Only missed 9 games in the past 8 seasons. Could have another 5 or 6 seasons in him.

I'd rather have more money to throw at big free agents next year and beyond.

Well thats all well and good, but you HAVE to pay 95% of the cap. We just lost Mitch and Frawley on big money and were struggling to pay it. HL's contract will in no way effect our ability to throw money at someone next year. The club aren't that stupid(...anymore)

Would be front-ended I'd imagine.

I know I get that, I would rather him get paid a million this year and then drop to $300,000 the year after to give us more room. but constantly getting paid $500k is going to make it tougher to target other players in the future

You'd hope we're getting ready to give Jones and Tyson significant pay rises for their next contracts if that's the money being thrown around on a solid B-grader in Lumumba...

So that's why he wanted to come to us. :( lol

Makes all the sense in the world to put him on a front-ended deal, and 3 years is about right.

As others have pointed out, we need to pay 95% of the cap and I'd rather it go to a proven player than just give mediocre players pay rises.

Looking at #2 and #3 picks from the past few years: Kelly, Billings, O'Rourke, Plowman, Coniglio, Tyson, Bennell, Day, Trengove, Martin, Naitanui, Hill, Cotchin, Masten, Gumbleton, Hansen, Thomas, Ellis, Roughead, Griffen, A Walker, Sylvia, Wells, Brennan, Ball, Judd.

Bolded are players that I'd be pretty happy with at those picks. 17/26. Trengove, Plowman, Sylvia, Brennan and Hansen wouldn't devastate me either. I think we'll be okay.

EDIT: Also, importantly, most of the inside mids have come good, which is why I seriously hope we can grab Petracca and Brayshaw.

You'd be happy with Day (who is a spud) but not Naitanui (who at the least is a gun ruckman)?
