Just going back onto the topic of our "best 22". I think it's a great position to be in with so many capable footballers available to us.
With modern footy the way it is, clubs will have to forget about 'best 22' and look at their squad as a whole. Injuries are certain to occur as well as resting players more and more. Preserving players and managing them to be cherry ripe at the end of the season will be a strategy which sets apart the best sides from the good sides.
With teams in the English premier league, the title contenders have the deepest squads in terms of quality depth players while good sides with smaller squads trail off when the crunch is on. Some predict Arsenal (who have been top of the table for most of the year) to fade to the likes of Man city or Chelsea due to a perceived lack of depth.
Footy in my opinion is following that path where the playing demands on players are getting bigger and bigger. And sides who go the year not rotating and managing players will struggle towards the end. We were a prime example of that in 2012, we used the least players of any club in the comp and I not need to remind us of what happened in the last few rounds!
What this does is it makes players such as Sam Wright, Leigh Adams, Kieran Harper, Dan Currie, Joel Tippet, Ben Jacobs, Levi Greenwood, Taylor Garner and Robin Nahas more valuable than ever.
People claiming Kieran Harper will not make it are being a little short sided. Maybe he won't turn out to be a Boomer Harvey but his role in the side as a quality depth player with potential is one of great importance.
If we are to win a premiership, we will have 30+ solid contributors, not 22.
