You're forgetting Moloney, he's a clearance specialist

In that he extracts the ball forward by foot - often with little direction.
I didn't mention Moloney for the reason that he doesn't involve teammates - so he is irrelevant to Aish's chances of getting the football, whereas a guy like Black would've been at the bottom of the packs hand balling it out to the likes of Aish... Aish is very clever outside the pack, but he'll need someone to do the dirty work, that someone isn't Moloney, at least not in terms of doing the dirty work for others.
I rate Brisbane's midfield very highly, I think it's one of the most promising young midfields in the league, but they don't have that in and under type midfielder that would complement Aish.
Anyway, I will get back to the thread and re-bump this issue at a later date, cheers.

Menzel. Didn't even have a preseason last year. Having a full one this year.

Crips won't probably be ready to debut to late in the year given he is coming off a low fitness base having broken his leg last year.

Midfielders capable of holding there own physically normally do pretty well in the rising star. My money is on Sheed, Dunstan or Jack martin

Garlett's an interesting one and might be worth a punt if you can get long odds. Could go either way though, he's just as likely to be banished from the club by June.

But you'd reckon Martin is rightly the heavy favourite.

Garlett is the only young player that is just as likely to be in prison at the end of the 2014 season as he is to win the rising star. I wonder if a betting agency will give odds on Garlett winning the rising star but not being able to attend the ceremony to receive his award because he couldn't get bail :p

no.. isn't there a stipulation that says a player is still eligible if hes played less than an arbitrary amount of games? i dont think sam reid has played that much has he?

Sorry I just saw your from Canada so that was very harsh. We have a lot of people on here who say things like that and think its funny. To qualify for the Rising Star Award you have to be under 21 years of age and have played less than 10 games prior to the start of the season. Sam Reid is almost 22 and has played 56 games.

Martin, Scharenberg or McDonald.

Hrovat and Stringer will hopefully be up there for us.

Makes sense, thank you. Bit different to other sports like soccer (in particular epl) where gareth bale won the equivalent award as a 23 year old who played 100+ league games for spurs

This kid a huge chance!

Judging by this thread appears to still be relatively unknown outside SA but is an absolute gun. Was superb in the games he played this year (yes better then Anderson) and came third in the Magery despite missing a large chunk of the season and will have 3 preseasons under the belt. Elite fitness, elite skills, poise beyond his years. Mitch Grigg folks, remember the name...

I guess it'd make logical sense to say Jack Martin, considering internally they've been saying he's better than Jaeger O'Meara.

But, i'd love to see Big Reg Grundy win it!

I remember watching him in the under 18 carnival a couple of years ago. I was working at the Chargers during that time and I went to watch their boys, but an SA game was on before it and I noted in my record to watch out for this kid in the draft.

I feel that he'd have to have a massive breakout season to rise above some of the other awesome young talent floating around the league.
