I may have the unpopular opinion here but I'd prefer to keep Davey over Brock if it came down to it.

Nah I think you're in the majority. Brock might pip him for talent barely but in the heart stakes Ellard leaves him for dead. Would rather see Ellard get a full season crack as a small forward than give Brock yet another extended go at our midfield. Reckon Whiley's arrival and Cripps progression have made Brock surplus to requirements. Especially with Curnow, Bell & possibly now Robinson still on the list.

Shield your eyes if you have to but have a geeze at the Essendon geezers!

Fletcher, Hooker, Dempsey
Winderlich, Hurley, Hibberd
Cooney, Heppell, Zaharakis
Chapman, Carlisle, Howlett
Giles, Daniher, Merrett
Bellchambers, Watson, Goddard
Stanton, Merrett, Hocking, Baguley

Not the worst side on paper until you count the redacted..

Their side on paper could look more like a Blank A4 come 2015.

If not, they need to win a flag within 3 before there's a mass exodus. BJ turns 30 next season, as does Watson whilst Stanton turns 29.

So if you look at potentially our starting 22 next year.. look how many were originally round 1 picks.

1. Murphy
2. Gibbs
3. Menzell
4. Judd
5. Docherty
6. Walker
7. Cripps
8. Henderson
9. Jacksch
10. Kreuzer
11. Thomas
12. Everitt
13. Yarran

Then depending on de-listings.... or game time next year

14. Lucas
15. McClean
16. Watson
17. #19 draft pick

We'd have to have the most first rounders in our starting 22 (bar GWS/GCS)

Walker will stay in defence and I except Daisy will move into the guts ASAP. KJ will also have to fit in there as that what's we ideally want him for. Also really hope Blaine can get in that forward 6. Reckon Johnson & Menzel crumbing to Levi, KJ, Jones could be very tasty. Might be able to add Tutt to that group too.

Also think this shows that we need to find ourselves another canny small forward. Starting to look a little tall now.
Wiley talked about Jaksch playing in defence, don't go leaving Casboult out of your forward line.
I want to see Daisy on a forward flank but without any distance in his kicking he's not really dangerous enough. If he doesn't get it back he may just have to be a hard working winger.
BJ is a fair way off best 22 for mine. Would prefer Walker, Everitt or Tuohy on the forward flank.

Here's the non infracted...

Gleeson, Gwilt, Ashby
Van Unen, Steinberg, Aylett
Cooney, Zaharakis (captain coach), Edwards
Hams, Ambrose, Kommer
Fantasia, Daniher, Merrett
Giles, Merrett, Chapman
Dell'Ollio, Pick 17, Pick 21, Lamb to Slaughter

That was much more fun

On the first-round draftee: + McLean, + Watson.

Doesn't make 'em all good players though. In fact, it would suggest we should be a lot better than we are.

The other problem is of those players, the following have probably/definitely maxed their potential:

1. Murphy
2. Gibbs
4. Judd
6. Walker
8. Henderson
11. Thomas
12. Everitt
McLean

Ie. They're not getting better.

Jury is way WAY out on:

Watson
Lucas
Kreuzer (I said it)

Leaves a lot of improvement having to come from:

Menz
Docherty
Cripps
Hendo
Jaksch
Yazz
(and hopefully) Kreuzer

Can never have too many high pedigree youngsters coming through, and I'd feel tons better if we had 2-3 more.

Hey I heard Rob talking about KJ in defence but I really was referencing the next 1-3 years rather than just next year alone. Definitely expect to see KJ down back to begin with but you never know how quickly that can change.

Daisy's kicking improved vastly in the latter part of the year and his kicking off half-back (still a viable position for him IMO) was better than Walker's. I think he'll play all over the park but I want to see him back in that midfield, that's why we got him. Also I agree with Everritt, he looks the best for us playing off a wing and drifting forward.

Blaine is off best 22 right now but again, looking at the future and I like what I see in him. Also gotta factor in the PSD coming up.

I also think there's a chance Watson could develop into a respectable key forward. Last game of the year is a tiny sample size but he was showing signs in the VFL prior to that. Long beautiful accurate kick and a decent pair of hands mean there's definitely something to work with there.

Also I mentioned Levi in that group.

I'd say there's significant improvement expected for all of the guys bar maybe the last two. Might not get top-level out of all of them but I'd be very disappointed if those names mentioned aren't all quality blues players for the next decade.

Touhy, Watson and Casboult can all Roost it a long way. Hendo not bad either. Still prefer Walker back as I love his run (along with Yaz) out of defence. Judd playing more as a forward could be an option. If he wasn't tired from running so hard and far his set shot would probably improve.

I actually prefer walker in the midfield 190cm 90kgs big bodied mid who runs forever

You know in 150 years the longest we have gone without winning a flag is 23 years.

Next season is the 20 year mark. History tells us that we will win a flag within the next 4 years. Funny how that coincides with Murphy, Thomas, Gibbs, Henderson, Kreuzer, Doc, Menzel and co being at their best ages to play high end footy.

Also, it was MM's 3rd year at Collingwood when they went close in 2002.

I'd say 150 years is a solid sample size. Get on board:thumbsu:

A tug-of-war is brewing between Carlton and the Western Bulldogs over talented Canberra forward Jason Tutt after the two clubs failed to agree to a trade before Thursday's deadline.
It's believed both clubs have offered Tutt a two-year deal, but Tutt is committed to moving to Carlton and is willing to go through the pre-season draft to get there.
The Blues offered a fourth-round draft pick (they have picks 61 and 65) for the 23-year-old, who is out of contract, but the Bulldogs were unwilling to deal.

What are the Dogs worried about?

They have Boyd and don't need other players :)

Dogs have the shittest defence in the league. Midfield doesn't look as good without Griffin. Forward line looks pretty strong.

Reckon Brisbane will be around 8-10th next year. Midfield will be dominant. Reckon we'll be similar or slightly higher than Brisbane ladder position... 7-9.

6-7 for me... if we stay fit that is... and come September we will be the team that no one wants to play

What is everyone's thoughts on Kane Lucas, who is out of contract ? I am happy either way (if he stays or walks away to another club in the draft)

For whatever reason, Lucas is one of the most disappointing first round picks we have drafted in the last decade, if he stays, he really needs to lift his workrate and attitude...

Almost certainly will be delisted.
