Huh?
Higgins came good last year while still at the kennel.
Perpetual injury, not environment was holding him back
Higgins was dropped last season for work-rate issues. Higgins spent 2 weeks in the VFL playing onball after he spent a few weeks giving us nothing off half back in the middle of the season. A regular knock on him at the Dogs was that he was soft, but the majority of injuries he got with us was when he played forward.

Yes injuries thwarted him, but the footy he has played this year I haven't seen this type of level from him since 2009, then for whatever reason he didn't sustain it, or he didn't put 100% in in fear of getting injured I don't know.

The reference was in regard to North posters bagging Stanton out. Stanton is a much more consistent player than Higgins and imo he would be much more effective on the outside than Bastinac and Gibson.

The Dogs were playing him on the ball and on the half back flank. He's clearly a half forward flank and played his best footy at the dogs in that possie. Importantly, he had the best preseason of his career. Don't underestimate the importance of a full preseason on players.

Pups, Stanton can heck off. He may just make the 22 but it'll be really marginal. We have kids in the 2s Who can fill in Stantons position with ease. North are in need of pace, we have too many slow blokes as it is without adding Stanton.

Bastinac is not in our best team anymore and is likely going to be shipped out this of season. Gibson is no longer playing solely an outlet role, but a defensive wing role and is well capable of playing a contested game when necessary. The primary issue with Stanton is that he is an outside player with very little inside game and little hurt factor. If he is not capable of playing a defensive role and taking his turn inside then he is no good to us, unless we plan to revert to having a pure link player whose primary role is to find space and be an outlet. But why would we bring in Brent Stanton to do that when we already have a hard running, not very damaging wingman in Gibson capable of doing so? This just does not makes sense to me.

Higgins did, given his ability to play half forward/mid to a very good level, Waite did given his contested marking ability, Dal Santo did given his neat skills and decision making. Stanton? While a decent player is not a fit for our team.

No you don't lol, Bastinac and Gibson are in the ones and they aren't kids. Who are these kids you speak of?

Garner and Turner are small pressure forwards, but Garner looks like he can take a grab, he could be a player with time. Dumont is an inside mid of what I've seen of him, but you have quite a few of these types in your best 18. I liked the look of Mason Wood is he going to be retained? Looks like he has attributes to be a big bodied mid, but is played forward.

Agreed you need pace, you need capable inside-out players who are capable of turning a match.

We have will fordham who has shown enough to get a gig on the wing you just wait and see.

Mason Wood is a winger/Half forward who would play if Gibson was out. Bastinac is a rover.

I don't think Stanton fits the inside outside mid who are capable of turning a match which we both agree North need. Having Wells back next year will alleviate some of Norths problems in this area.

Hope so, but will he force his way into the team next year or does he have to wait for Boomer, Dal Santo, Wells etc to retire?

We all know Brad generally drops kids before the older blokes.

Wood could be a weapon if given a chance, hope he trains with the midfield group over the off-season, reminds me of David Myers with that booming left foot of his, but I'm sure Wood would have more in the locker than Myers as he can play forward too.

Jack Watts will be 25 at the start of next season just how much longer is it going to take to unlock? You don't pick up 25yo+ project players those players need to ready made.

Sounds like Sydney Project they take on

I thought some exciting rumour might have surfaced since I last looked at this thread. Dissapointed to find I had to sift through 5 pages of people arguing about how shit Stanton is

That's true, very true I guess the ️we might see one of boomer and dal not play away from vic iunno

That's a justifiable argument for better than Wells.

Now make one for = with Harvey and better than Swallow.
Harvey is slowing down slightly. That's why he's been sub a couple of times this year. Stanton's endurance is elite, and it will show next year with a tighter interchange cap.

Swallow has been down the past 2 years. I like him but he seems to be slowing down.

Harvey was sub to set an example and Round 23 was to give him a rest. Hardly because he was dropping off the pace.

I'm not against getting Stanton as a FA because at the end of the day it only costs cap space and he is surely better than players on the back end of your list, but I wouldn't say he is the answer.

Wonder how long before the Media reads the ridiculous rumour on Facebook about Dangerfield...One of the many wannabe Story Breaking pages said Collingwood had offered him an $1.2 Million a year 8 year deal...
saw that. If you look at their other posts u can tell the page is a load of crap

i rate McGovern higher than Hurley and Hooker! - best intercept mark in the game and has held the Eagles defence together for the year with Mackenzie and Brown out! Hooker played more fwd this year, so you cant say he is one of the top 3 defenders if he didnt play there!
you cant make a viable argument against it either!

LOL!!!!

how is it lol?
it is my opinion

Opinions can be laughable.

Although yours isn't however i would rate both our players over Mcgovern but of course that is an opinion also.

You said you can't make a viable argument for either but i can make one easy one and that is both are AA players while McGovern missed out. Hooker did play back for most of the year also.

Not definitive proof but a valid argument.
